Abstract
A chew toy is provided for dispensing medication to a user, comprising: a) an outer shell comprising an opening; and b) an inner compartment comprising a channel connecting the inner compartment to the opening; wherein the inner compartment comprises means for storing the medication and dispensing the medication through the channel and out of the opening when the user chews the chew toy. In some embodiments, the inner compartment comprises a syringe or a sac. In another embodiment, the inner compartment of the chew toy may comprise a channel that connects a first opening in the chew toy to a second opening connected to an external compartment comprising an external syringe, sac, or any other means for storing and dispensing the medication. Methods of using the chew toys to dispense medication to a user are also provided.
Claims
1. A chew toy for dispensing medication to a user, comprising: a) an outer shell comprising an opening; and b) an inner compartment comprising a channel connecting the inner compartment to the opening; wherein the inner compartment comprises means for storing the medication and dispensing the medication through the channel and out of the opening when the user chews the chew toy.

The chew toy of claim 1, wherein the inner compartment comprises a syringe, wherein the syringe comprises a plunger, a body, and a nozzle, wherein the nozzle comprises the channel of the inner compartment and connects the body to the opening and provides a pathway to the opening for the medication to be dispensed to the user; and further wherein when the syringe comprises medication, the chew toy is configured to dispense the medication from the body of the syringe through the nozzle and out of the opening when the user chews the chew toy.
3. The chew toy of claim 2, wherein the plunger is configured to push the medication out of the syringe through the body and the nozzle, wherein the plunger is located on one end of the syringe, aligns with the body, and is slightly smaller than the body.
4. The chew toy of claim 3, wherein the body of the syringe is centered within the outer shell, and wherein the nozzle is located on the other end of the syringe opposite the plunger and is perpendicular to the body of the syringe.
5. The chew toy of claim 1, wherein the inner compartment comprises a sac and a nozzle connecting the sac to the opening; wherein when the sac comprises medication, the chew toy is configured to dispense the medication from the sac through the nozzle to the opening when the user chews the chew toy.
6. The chew toy of claim 5, wherein the sac is shaped as a cube, a rectangular solid, a prism, a cylinder, a sphere, a cone, or a pyramid.
7. The chew toy of claim 1, wherein the outer shell comprises a chewable and durable material that is safe for oral administration to be chewed by the user.
8. The chew toy of claim 7, wherein the material is rubber, hard plastic, rope, or hard bark.
9. A method of using the chew toy of claim 1 to dispense medication to a user, comprising loading the medicine into the inner compartment, and providing the chew toy to the user, wherein the user chews the chew toy and the medication is dispensed from the inner compartment out of the opening.
10. The method of claim 9, wherein the user is a pet.
11. The method of claim 9, wherein the user is a small child.
12. A chew toy for dispensing medication to a user, comprising: a) an outer shell comprising a first opening and a second opening; b) an inner compartment comprising a channel connecting the first opening and the second opening; and c) an external compartment comprising means for storing the medication and dispensing the medication through the channel and out of the opening when the user chews the chew toy.
13. The chew toy of claim 12, wherein the means for storing the medication and dispensing the medication comprises an external syringe comprising a plunger, a body, and a nozzle, wherein the nozzle connects the body to the second opening, and wherein when the external syringe comprises medication and the plunger is used to push the medication out of the external syringe, the chew toy is configured to dispense the medication from the body of the external syringe through the nozzle and the second opening into the channel and out of the first opening.

The chew toy of claim 12, wherein the external compartment comprises a sac and a nozzle connecting the sac to the second opening; wherein when the sac comprises medication, the chew toy is configured to dispense the medication from the sac through the nozzle and the second opening into the channel and out of the first opening.
15. The chew toy of claim 14, wherein the sac is shaped as a cube, a rectangular solid, a prism, a cylinder, a sphere, a cone, or a pyramid.
16. The chew toy of claim 12, wherein the outer shell comprises a chewable and durable material that is safe for oral administration to be chewed by the user.
17. The chew toy of claim 16, wherein the material is rubber, hard plastic, rope, or hard bark.
18. A method of using the chew toy of claim 12 to dispense medication to a user, comprising loading the medicine into the external compartment, providing the chew toy to the user, and dispensing the medication through the channel and out of the opening when the user chews the chew toy.
19. The method of claim 18, wherein the user is a pet.
20. The method of claim 18, wherein the user is a small child.

Chew Toy for Dispensing Medication
[0028] The present invention is directed to a device that is used to ensure the ingestion of medication in humans and pets by concealing the medication within the interior of the device, wherein the exterior of the device is disguised as a chew toy. The present invention dispenses medication to the user while the chew toy is being chewed on. The chew toy may be of any shape or size so long as it contains an inner compartment to conceal the medication.
