Abstract
A jewelry shortener for temporarily shortening a jewelry chain comprises a clasp with a cushion element that traps both sides of the chain at a desired ienath when the clasped is dosed. The clasp may or may not have an ornamental element that is visible when worn.
Claims
1. A shortener device comprising: a top member attached to a bottom member by a hinge on a first side of the shortener device; a closure mechanism located on a second side of the shortener device; at least two prongs extending upwardly from outer edges of the bottom member to define, along with the hinge and the closure mechanism, an interior space; the at least two prongs extending inwardly into said interior space; and a cushion element fixedly attached within said interior space by at least said prongs.
2. The shortener device of claim 1, wherein the closure mechanism is adapted to hold the top member to the bottom member.
3. The shortener device of claim 1, wherein the cushion element is adapted to secure at least one of a group consisting of strands, cords, and strings.
4. The shortener device of claim 1, wherein the cushion element is adapted to secure at least one of a group consisting of necklaces, bracelets, and anklets.
5. The shortener device of claim 1, wherein the at least two prongs are evenly spaced from where the top member is attached to the bottom member and the closure mechanism.
6. The shortener device of claim 1, wherein the top member is attached to the bottom member with a non-living hinge that is rotatably movable between two partially circular sections of the bottom member.
7. The shortener device of claim 1, wherein there are only two prongs evenly spaced from where the top member is attached to the bottom member and the closure mechanism.
8. The shortener device of claim 1, further comprising a locking element adapted to secure the top member to the bottom member.
9. The shortener device of claim 8, wherein the locking element is selected from the group consisting of a single safety latch, a double safety latch, a hook safety latch, revolver safety latch, and a push-pull safety latch.
10. The shortener device of claim 1, wherein the cushion element is formed from silicone.
11. The shortener device of claim 1, wherein the cushion element is selected from the group consisting of silicone rubber, closed-cell foam, open-cell foam, foam rubber, and rubber.
12. The shortener device of claim 1, wherein the top member comprises an ornamental element.
13. A device for shortening elongated items comprising: a top member attached to a bottom member on a first side of the device; a closure mechanism located on a second side of the device adapted to secure the top member to the bottom member; and at least two prongs extending upwardly from outer edges of the bottom member to define an interior space along with the closure mechanism and the first side, the at least two prongs extending inwardly into said interior space.
14. The device of claim 13, further comprising a cushion element, wherein the cushion element is adapted to secure at least one of a group consisting of strands, cords, and strings.
15. The device of claim 13, further comprising a cushion element, wherein the cushion element is adapted to secure at least one of a group consisting of necklaces, bracelets, and anklets.
16. The device of claim 13, wherein the at least two prongs are evenly spaced from the first side and the second side.
17. The device of claim 13, wherein the top member is attached to the bottom member with a non-living hinge that is rotatably movable between two partially circular sections of the bottom member.
18. The device of claim 13, wherein there are only two prongs evenly spaced from the first side and the second side.
19. The device of claim 13, further comprising a locking element adapted to secure the top member to the bottom member.
20. The device of claim 19, wherein the locking element is selected from the group consisting of a single safety latch, a double safety latch, a hook safety latch, revolver safety latch, and a push-pull safety latch.
