Abstract
Fiber optic modules for managing optical fibers and optical connections. In some examples, multiple modules are stackable. In some examples, the modules are configured to facilitate cable/fiber routing. Stacking elements can be used to serially stack multiple modules together. Components, such as lids and covers of the modules, can be substituted for components of different configurations. The modules and stacking elements are configured to reduce/minimize space taken up by stacking.

21. A telecommunications enclosure system, comprising: a first housing module; and a second housing module, each housing module defining an interior volume configured to manage optical fibers and further defining ports for receiving fiber optic connectors entering the ports from outside the housing module, the first housing module including a first stacking mechanism, the second housing module including a second stacking mechanism, each of the first stacking mechanism and the second stacking mechanism including projections and grooves, the first stacking mechanism and the second stacking mechanism being configured to couple with each other such that the grooves of the first housing module receive the projections of the second housing module and the grooves of the second housing module receive the projections of the first housing module to form a stack of the first housing module and the second housing module.
22. The system of claim 21, further comprising a cantilever arm configured to snap into a recess defined by one of the first stacking mechanism or the second stacking mechanism.
23. The system of claim 21, wherein the projections define knuckles.
24. The system of claim 21, wherein each of the first housing module and the second housing module defines at least four of the ports for receiving fiber optic connectors.
25. The system of claim 24, wherein the at least four of the ports are arranged in a single row.
26. The system of claim 24, further comprising plugs attached at the at least four of the ports.
27. The system of claim 21, further comprising a coupling component for coupling together the first stacking mechanism and the second stacking mechanism.
28. The system of claim 27, wherein the coupling component includes a pair of parallel pins.
29. The system of claim 21, further comprising threads at each of the ports for mating with threads of corresponding fiber optic connectors.
30. The system of claim 21, wherein each of the housing modules comprises multiple pieces assembled together.
31. The system of claim 21, wherein the ports of each of the first housing module and the second housing module are positioned for insertion of the fiber optic connectors along a direction that is parallel to an elongate dimension of the first housing module or the second housing module.
32. The system of claim 24, wherein each of the at least four of the ports of each of the first housing module and the second housing module are positioned for insertion of the fiber optic connectors along a direction that is parallel to an elongate dimension of the first housing module or the second housing module.
33. The system of claim 21, wherein the ports are configured to receive ruggedized fiber optic connectors.
34. A telecommunications enclosure system, comprising: a first housing module; a second housing module, each housing module defining an interior volume configured to manage optical fibers and further defining at least four ports arranged in a single row for receiving ruggedized fiber optic connectors entering the ports from outside the housing module, the first housing module including a first stacking mechanism, the second housing module including a second stacking mechanism, each of the first stacking mechanism and the second stacking mechanism including projections and grooves, the first stacking mechanism and the second stacking mechanism being configured to couple with each other such that the grooves of the first housing module receive the projections of the second housing module and the grooves of the second housing module receive the projections of the first housing module to form a stack of the first housing module and the second housing module; and a cantilever arm configured to snap into a recess defined by one of the first stacking mechanism or the second stacking mechanism, wherein the ports of each of the first housing module and the second housing module are positioned for insertion of the fiber optic connectors along a direction that is parallel to an elongate dimension of the first housing module or the second housing module.

For example, optical signals from a network provider can travel along optical fibers that enter the enclosure module 102 via the first opening 108 and exit the enclosure module 102 via the second opening 110. Opposing side walls 112 and 114 join the open stacking side 104 to the closed stacking side 106, such that the enclosure module 102 is essentially a block-like housing defining an interior volume 116.
