EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
(10) Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the diagrams.
Embodiment 1
(11)
(12) The vehicle is prepared with a rear seat S behind the driver seat and the passenger seat not illustrated. The rear seat S may include a seat, an arm rest, a headrest, and the like. The side airbag device 1 is attached to a structure in the vehicle cabin and provided in the space between the rear seat S and the rear door, for example. The structure to which the air side bag device [sic] is attached shall have a wall facing the front of the vehicle. One example of a structure is a side trim SA.
(13) The side airbag device 1 is provided on both the left and right sides of the rear seat S. Since the left side airbag device 1 has a bilaterally symmetric structure to the side airbag device 1 on the right side, the following description mainly describes the side airbag device 1 on the right side, and the description for the side airbag device 1 on the left will be omitted. In addition, although the side airbag device 1 provided in the rear seat S is described for the present embodiment, the installation location of the side airbag device 1 is not limited to the side of the rear seat S, but may be the side of the driver seat or the side of the passenger seat.
(14)
(15) An inflater 20 is contained within the inner portion of the cushion 10 (see
(16)
(17) Note that, in the present embodiment, for simplicity, the configuration of the cushion 10 including the inner panel 11 and the outer panel 12 will be described. However, the inner panel 11 and the outer panel 12 may include panels separate from the inner panel 11 and the outer panel 12, as well as various auxiliary members used to reinforce or maintain the shape of the panels.
(18)
(19) The housing 50 includes a mounting surface 51 on which the side airbag device 1 is mounted, a circumferential surface 52 that extends from the periphery of the mounting surface 51 frontwards, and a cover 53 that covers the stowing space of the side airbag device 1 formed by the mounting surface 51 and the circumferential surface 52. In the present embodiment, the mounting surface 51 is a rear wall surface provided on the housing 50 on the rear side of the vehicle, and is an example of a wall surface of the structure facing the front of the vehicle on the side of the occupant.
(20) The side airbag device 1 is attached to the mounting surface 51 by securing the inflater 20 encased by the cushion 10 to the mounting surface 51. The stud bolt 21 and the nut 22 are used to secure the inflater 20. The inflater 20 forms, for example, a cylindrical shape extending in the vertical direction. Internal threads for fastening the stud bolt 21 are formed on the upper end part and lower end part of the inflater 20. An insertion hole 12a through which the stud bolt 21 is inserted is provided in one of the panels constituting the cushion 10 (the outer panel 12 in the present embodiment). The insertion hole 12a is preferably provided at a position near the rear end when in an expanded and deployed state. Additionally, an insertion hole 51a through which the stud bolt 21 is inserted is also provided in the mounting surface 51 that makes up the housing 50. When the inflater 20 is secured to the mounting surface 51, the stud bolt 21 is arranged in the front-rear direction. The front end part of the stud bolt 21 is fastened to the internal threads provided in the inflater 20, and the rear end part protrudes rearward from the insertion hole 12a of the outer panel 12 and the insertion hole 51a of the mounting surface 51, and is fastened by the nut 22.
(21) The cover 53 of the housing 50 is provided with a tear seam, burst seam, or the like that breaks under the action of a prescribed external force. The expansion and deployment of the cushion 10 occurs with the rupture of the cover 53.
(22) The shape of the cushion 10 when expanded and deployed is described below.
(23) As described above, in the present embodiment, when the cushion 10 expands and deploys, the length of the inner panel 11 and the outer panel 12 as seen from the stud bolt 21 are different in the front-rear direction. A longer panel in the front-rear direction (inner panel 11) is deployed to twist toward a shorter panel (outer panel 12 set with the inflater 20). Thus, in this embodiment, by asymmetrically attaching the inner panel 11 and the outer panel 12, the deployment direction of the cushion 10 can be controlled, so there is no need to provide a tether to adjust the expanded configuration or to adjust the folding process of the cushion. Thus, in the present embodiment, the number of parts can be reduced, and the assembly operation can be simplified.
(24) Also, the longer panel (inner panel 11) in the front-rear direction is deployed so as to twist toward the shorter panel (outer panel 12), such that the stitching line 13 that stitches together the inner panel 11 and the outer panel 12 is biased toward the side of the outer panel 12 (or in other words the exterior side of the vehicle). As a result, even if the occupant is restrained by the cushion 10, contact with the panel end surface at which the stitching line 13 appears is avoided and discomfort is reduced.
(25) In the present embodiment, a configuration has been described in which the inflater 20 provided in the side airbag device 1 is attached to a structure in the vehicle cabin, however, the attachment location of the inflater 20 is not limited to the structure in the vehicle cabin. For example, a configuration in which the inflater 20 is attached to any structure included in the vehicle such as a tire housing or the like can be used.
Embodiment 2
(26)
(27) In one panel (the outer panel 12 in the present embodiment), an insertion hole 12a is provided through which a stud bolt 21 is inserted to attach the inflater 20 to the vehicle cabin structure. The insertion hole 12a is provided in the outer panel 12 so as to be in a position near the rear end of the vehicle when attached to the structure in the vehicle cabin. The cushion 10 houses the inflater 20, and is formed in the shape of a bag by sewing the periphery of the inner panel 11 and the outer panel 12 excluding the integrated regions in a state where the tip end part of the stud bolt 21 for securing the inflater 20 protrudes from the insertion hole 12a.
(28) Note that expansion and deployment the shape of the cushion 10 according to embodiment 2 is the same as that of embodiment 1, however, as there is a region that is not sewn together, if the panel end surface does not contact the occupant, insertion holes can be provided on the inner panel 11 and the cushion 10 can be secured inside the housing 50 by the stud bolt 21 together with the inflater 20.
(29) In embodiment 2, the region where the inner panel 11 and the outer panel 12 are integrated is configured to face the front of the vehicle when the cushion 10 expands and deploys. Therefore, the stitching line is less likely to contact the occupant during expansion and deployment of the cushion 10 and the occupant is less likely to receive injuries such as abrasions.
(30) The embodiments presently disclosed are to be considered as examples for all points, and are not restrictive. The scope of the present invention is not intended to be based on the meaning of that described above, but by the Scope of the patent Claims, and includes all changes in the meaning and scope equivalent to the Scope of the patent Claims.
