Abstract
A device for inhaling of vapor that includes a water-resistant layer encasing the device to guard against humid environments and/or submersion in liquid. The invention consists of a vaping device, a sleeve fitting over the vaping device, and a cap for closing the sleeve around the vaping device to form a water-resistant layer surrounding the vaping device. The sleeve includes a small aperture through which the vapor produced through the mouthpiece of the vaping device can escape and be inhaled, allowing the vaping device to be used while equipped with the water-resistant sleeve.

[0051] It must be noted that as used herein and in the appended claims, the singular forms “a”, “an”, and “the” include plural referents unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. It is further noted that the claims may be drafted to exclude any optional element. As such, this statement is intended to serve as antecedent basis for use of such exclusive terminology as “solely,” “only” and the like in connection with the recitation of claim elements, or use of a “negative” limitation.
[0052] When elements are referred to as being “connected” or “coupled,” the elements can be directly connected or coupled together or one or more intervening elements may also be present. [0053] Throughout this specification, like reference numbers signify the same elements throughout the description of the figures.
[0054] Referring now generally to the Figures and particularly to
[0055] The vape pen 102 further comprises at least a pen top end 106, a pen base end 108, a mouthpiece 110, a casing 111, and a control 112.
[0056] The vape pen 102 is a device used for inhaling vapor, or “vaping”; this kind of device is also known as an e-cigarette, electronic cigarette, or portable inhalation system, and produces vapor for a user to inhale. The vape pen 102 is an ordinary vaping device as known in the art, and has other internal components as already known in the art that are not shown in this drawing, such as at least a power source, a vaping liquid cartridge, and a heating element. The vape pen 102 as presented in these Figures should be viewed as encompassing the internal components found in vaping devices as generally known in the art, and accordingly, perceived also as an electronic device that could easily be damaged if exposed to liquid. The invention pertains generally to the outside of the vape pen 102, so no further discussion of the internal components of the vape pen 102 is necessary here.
[0057] The sleeve 104 further comprises at least a cap 114, a sleeve top end 116, a sleeve base end 118, a top aperture 120, and a sleeve elongate body 122.
[0058] In many preferred embodiments, the sleeve 104 fully surrounds the vape pen 102, except for the sleeve base end 118, which may be left open to allow air to pass through the vape pen 102 or sealed closed by means of the cap 114. When the cap 114 is in place over the sleeve base end 118, the sleeve 104 is at least partially water-resistant, thus protecting the vape pen 102.
[0059] It should be noted that the pen top end 106 fits into the sleeve top end 116, and likewise with the pen base end 108 and the sleeve base end 118; the directions ‘top’ and ‘base’ remain consistent throughout these Figures, where ‘top’ is the end through which the user inhales vapor, either directly from the mouthpiece 110 of the vape pen 102, or through the aperture 120 of the sleeve 104 while the vape pen 102 is equipped with the sleeve 104. The sleeve top end 116 is synonymous with the “slit end” or “vapor release end” of the invented device as discussed also herein. Likewise, the ‘base’ is the end through which air is taken into the vape pen 102, allowing the vapor generated by the vape pen 102 to be inhaled. If the user tries to inhale with the cap 114 closed, the user's ability to do so may be limited because doing so would create a suction effect, like sucking the air out of any closed container. Preferred use would recommend opening the cap 114 to inhale some vapor, with air passing through the sleeve base end 118 into the pen base end 108 to replace the air the user is also inhaling out of the device 100, then closing the cap 114 again to better protect the vape pen 102 when not inhaling.

[0061] Referring now generally to the Figures and particularly to
[0062] Regarding the top aperture 120 through which vapor 126 traverses the top end 116 of the sleeve 104, this aperture might in some embodiments be just a hole in the sleeve 104 through which vapor 126 can pass. The preferred form for the aperture 120 to take is a slit shape, such that a user can widen the aperture by exerting mechanical force on the sleeve top end 116 with their teeth or lips or by sucking vapor through and exerting pneumatic force, but in the absence of force exerted by a user, the aperture 120 has a resting state of being mostly closed, thus allowing better water resistance and preventing vapor from leaking out into empty air when the user isn't inhaling.
[0063] The cap 114 may further comprise some or all of these additional cap features: a cap base 114A, a cap extension 114B, a cap strap 114C, and a cap lip 114D. The cap base 114A is a flat feature that covers and seals the sleeve base end 118, such that when the cap 114 is in a closed position, the cap base 114A physically blocks moisture from getting in. The cap extension 114B is the portion of the cap 114 that extends from the cap base 114A and detachably couples the cap 114 with the sleeve base end 118. This may be by fitting the cap extension 114B into the sleeve base end 118 like a cork in a bottle, as shown; by having the cap extension 114B adapted to fit around the sleeve base end 118 as shown in

[0078] Other Figures included as diagrams herein have opted for improved drafting clarity by leaving space visible between the casing 111 of the vape pen 102 and the sleeve 104, but embodiments in which the sleeve 104 is made of elastic material 900 and fitted closely around the vape pen 102 are preferred, such that there is actually very little space allowed between the inner wall 902 and the casing 111. While embodiments having a less snug fit can be anticipated, such as embodiments sized for a broad range of compatibility with different models of vape pen 102 at the expense of a more specialized, ‘tailored’ fit, a snug fit is preferred at least for the reasons that the vape pen 102 might slip out of the sleeve 104 unexpectedly while the cap 114 is open, that the device 100 with a loose-fitting sleeve 104 might be more difficult and less comfortable to grip, or that released vapor 126 might accumulate inside of a loose sleeve 104 if given the space to occupy, instead of being made accessible to a user.
[0079] The central axis A1, as also mentioned regarding
[0080] It is further understood that the sleeve 104 is formed of the elastic material 900 having an internal resting diameter of less than two times the length of R1 when the vape pen 102 is not positioned within the sleeve 104. It is understood that the internal resting diameter of the sleeve is measured as a dimension perpendicular and extending through the central axis A1.
[0081] The sleeve 104 is thus undersized to cause the sleeve 104 to preferably press against the vape pen 102 along the majority of the length of the vape pen 102 along the central axis A1 and thereby form a tight seal that limits fluid passing within the sleeve 104 when the vape pen 102 is residing within the vape pen 102. If the value U is the measure of the undersize dimension of the sleeve in parallel with R1, then the internal resting dimension of the sleeve 104 is equal to 2 times R1 minus U or 2R1-U; the value U preferably is within the range of from R1 to 0.001 R1.
[0082] While selected embodiments have been chosen to illustrate the invention, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art from this disclosure that various changes and modifications can be made herein without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims. For example, the size, shape, location or orientation of the various components can be changed as needed and/or desired. Components that are shown directly connected or contacting each other can have intermediate structures disposed between them. The functions of one element can be performed by two, and vice versa. The structures and functions of one embodiment can be adopted in another embodiment, it is not necessary for all advantages to be present in a particular embodiment at the same time. Every feature which is unique from the prior art, alone or in combination with other features, also should be considered a separate description of further inventions by the applicant, including the structural and/or functional concepts embodied by such feature(s). Thus, the foregoing descriptions of the embodiments according to the present invention are provided for illustration only, and not for the purpose of limiting the invention as defined by the appended claims and their equivalents.
