DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0036] In general, the present disclosure describes an interior accessory for a vehicle, such as a car, an SUV, a truck, etc. In one example, the accessory is configured to be secured to the interior door panel of a vehicle door, such as, but not limited to, the driver side door and/or the passenger side door and/or the rear doors. The door panel accessory provides additional storage for the user within the vehicle. The door panel accessory may be secured to the door panel using existing fasteners (e.g., bolts) and existing pre-formed openings or slots for the fasteners, or in other ways. The interior accessory may be configured to be secured to other components of the vehicle (e.g., center console) using pre-existing fasteners and pre-formed fastener openings.
[0037] Referring now to the drawings, and in particular to
[0038] In one example, the backing 14 may be generally rigid (e.g., more rigid than the front panel of the pouch 12) and may be in the form a panel. For example, the backing 14 may be formed from plastic or other material. In another example, the backing 14 may be flexible, and similar to the remainder of the panels of the flexible pouch. The backing 14 (and the accessory in general) may have a footprint that is generally trapezoidal, although the footprint may be other shapes. In one example, the backing 14 is sized and shaped to generally correspond with a pre-existing door panel accessory so that the backing 14 fits within a recess on the door panel and/or appears to be assembled with the door panel, as can be seen from
[0039] A suitable door panel accessory similar to the door panel accessory of
[0040] Referring to
[0041] The illustrated door panel accessory 110 further includes PALS and/or MOLLE system 118 of overlapping straps or other structures on a front of the panel 112 to form loops suitable for holding tool, instruments, or other articles. The MOLLE system 118 can be made by sewing webbing, laser cutting, or can be plastic or other substrate with slots extending horizontally from one side to the other, and which can also secure webbing or other flexible or semi flexible materials to perform the function of securing MOLLE pouches and accessories. For example, MOLLE Pouches, First Aid Kits, D-Rings, Swivel Hooks, Etc. may be secured to the MOLLE system. This modularity allows the user to pick and choose what items to keep readily at hand, rather than having a set area in which uses are limited. Other types of securement systems, other or in addition to a MOLLE and/or PALS system may be included on the panel 112.

[0046] As can be appreciated from the above description, in one exemplary method the pre-existing fasteners are used to attach the interior accessory (e.g., door panel accessory and/or center console accessory) to the component of the vehicle. The fasteners are inserted through the pre-formed openings (e.g., eyelet) of the interior accessory and fastened to the interior component. In one particular embodiment, the interior accessory may be installed after-market or after assembly of the vehicle by removing the fasteners from the pre-formed fastener openings in the component, then inserting the fasteners through the pre-formed openings of the interior accessory and reinserting the fasteners into the component to attach the interior accessory to the component. In one embodiment, an existing interior accessory may be removed after removing the fasteners and replaced with the interior accessory of the present disclosure. In yet another embodiment, the existing interior accessory may remain in place and the interior accessory of the present disclosure may be installed over (e.g., overlie) the pre-existing interior accessory and the component.
[0047] Modifications and variations of the disclosed embodiments are possible without departing from the scope of the invention defined in the appended claims.
[0048] When introducing elements of the present invention or the embodiment(s) thereof, the articles “a”, “an”, “the” and “said” are intended to mean that there are one or more of the elements. The terms “comprising”, “including” and “having” are intended to be inclusive and mean that there may be additional elements other than the listed elements.
[0049] As various changes could be made in the above constructions, products, and methods without departing from the scope of the invention, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description and shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
