Abstract
A muzzle mounted device system comprised of a first element connected to a barrel muzzle and has an outer recess, and a gas seal element forward of the recess. The device body has a bore configured to sealably receive the gas seal element. The device body has a plurality of radial passages and a plurality of balls each received in one of the respective radial passages. The collar encircling the device body and movable axially between a released position in which the balls are free toward a radial excursion for removal of the body from the first element, and a secured position in which the balls are biased into the outer recess of the first element.
Claims
1. A muzzle mounted device system comprising: a first element connected to a barrel muzzle and having an outer recess, and a gas seal element forward of the recess; a device body defining a bore configured to sealably receive the gas seal element; the device body defining a plurality of radial passages; a plurality of balls each received in one of the respective radial passages; and a collar encircling the device body and movable axially between a released position in which the balls are free toward a radial excursion for removal of the body from the first element, and a secured position in which the balls are biased into the outer recess of the first element.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
[0011] The Adapter Body is cut from a round billet. A total of (4) lathe cuts are required: One to create the Upper Lug, another to create a recess for the Disassembly Ring, one to cut the Suppressor Attachment threads, and last to create the Inlet Chamfer. The Adapter Body is then drilled axially to create the central channel and twice cross-drilled at 90° to create the Ball Bearing channels. Last, the Ball Bearing recesses are chamfered by widening the channels through drilling operations along each recess's axis.
[0012] The Sleeve is cut from a round billet. First the Lower Lug is formed by machining the billet from the lower end. Next, the Bearing Ramp is machined from the upper end with (4) cuts. These cuts create two interior flat surfaces and two interior sloped surfaces. The Bearing Ramp is comprised of the two sloped surfaces and their intermediate flat surface.
[0013] The Disassembly Ring is cut from pipe stock and notched into a “C” shape. Expanding pliers are used to flex the Disassembly Ring between a larger radius and a smaller radius. When stretched to its larger radius, the Disassembly Ring fits between the Adapter Body and the Sleeve. At its smaller radius, the Disassembly Ring fits into the Disassembly Ring recess.
[0014] The Barrel Adapter is cut from a round billet. First it is through drilled axially and then the Barrel Threads are cut into the inner surface, at one end. The outer surface of the Barrel Adapter has three rings machined away, creating grooves for the Gas Rings. Finally, a Bearing Groove is cut around the Barrel Adapter, matching the radius of the Ball Bearings.
[0015] A set of (4) Ball Bearings are placed into the Adapter Body's Ball Bearing recesses. The Sleeve slides upward from below the Adapter Body and the Sleeve's Bearing Ramp holds the Ball Bearings in place. The Sleeve Spring is inserted over the Adapter Body and rests against the Lower (Sleeve) Lug. Expanding pliers are used to stretch the Disassembly Ring to its larger radius. It slides over the Adapter Body, and presses against the Sleeve Spring. The Sleeve Spring is then gradually compressed by the Disassembly Ring, which eventually falls into the Disassembly Ring recess, and returns to its smaller radius. The Disassembly Ring holds the Sleeve Spring in place in the QD Suppressor Adapter's now assembled state.
[0016] Ensure firearm is unloaded, prior to attaching the QD Suppressor Adapter.
[0017] The Barrel Adapter is threaded onto a gun barrel and (3) Gas Rings are placed into their grooves. Ensure the gaps in the Gas Rings are not aligned.
[0018] Thread the top of the assembled QD Suppressor Adapter into a suppressor. Compress the Sleeve Spring by sliding the Sleeve away from the suppressor and insert the Barrel Adapter through the Inlet Chamfer. Once the first Gas Ring has passed the Ball Bearings, release the pressure on the Sleeve Spring, and continue inserting the gun barrel until the Ball Bearings land in the Bearing Groove. The Sleeve will return to its original position and the Adapter will lock onto the Barrel Adapter.
[0019] Ensure firearm is unloaded, prior to disassembly. Allow the Suppressor and QD Suppressor Adapter to cool, prior to handling.
[0020] To remove the QD Suppressor Adapter from the firearm, compress the Sleeve Spring by sliding the Sleeve away from the suppressor. Pull the Suppressor and Adapter away from the Barrel Adapter to remove it from the gun. Last, unscrew the Suppressor from the QD Suppressor Adapter.
[0021] To disassemble the QD Suppressor Adapter, use expanding pliers to stretch the Disassembly Ring to its larger radius, until it is pushed out of the Disassembly Ring recess by the Sleeve Spring. Place the device on a flat surface, with the Inlet Chamfer down and remove the Adapter Body from the Sleeve. Be careful to ensure the (4) Ball Bearings fall out of the Adapter Body and into the Sleeve. The Sleeve Spring and Ball Bearings will now fall loosely out of the Sleeve.
[0022] Clean the device regularly with the firearm. Store the device in a dry place.
