PROTECTIVE ONE-PIECE SUIT WITH CROTCH GUSSET

Abstract

A one-piece protective suit includes first and second leg portions respectively comprising first and second inseams. A gusset is positioned at a crotch portion of the one-piece protective suit between the first and second leg portions. The gusset includes a front gusset seam and a back gusset seam connected at two opposite lateral points in the crotch portion. The ventral seam connects to the front gusset seam at a ventral point of the crotch portion and the dorsal seam connects to the back gusset seam at a dorsal point of the crotch portion. The gusset has a diamond shape with the ventral point and the dorsal point at vertices thereof.

Claims

1. A one-piece protective suit comprising: a first leg portion comprising a first inseam along the first leg portion; a second leg portion comprising a second inseam along the second leg portion; a torso portion having a ventral side and a dorsal side, the ventral side comprising a ventral seam and the dorsal side comprising a dorsal seam; a first arm portion and a second arm portion; and a gusset positioned at a crotch portion of the one-piece protective suit between the first leg portion and the second leg portion, the gusset comprising a front gusset seam and a back gusset seam connected at two opposite lateral points in the crotch portion, wherein the ventral seam connects to the front gusset seam at a ventral point of the crotch portion and the dorsal seam connects to the back gusset seam at a dorsal point of the crotch portion, and wherein the two opposite lateral points, the dorsal point and the ventral point are spaced apart from each other, the gusset having a rhomboid shape.

2. The one-piece suit according to claim 1, wherein the gusset has a substantially diamond shape.

3. The one-piece suit according to claim 1, wherein a first ratio of a first length between the two lateral points to a second length between the dorsal point and the ventral point is of at least 3:1.

4. The one-piece suit according to claim 2, wherein a first ratio of a first length between the two lateral points to a second length between the dorsal point and the ventral point is of at least 3:1.

5. The one-piece suit according to claim 3, wherein the first ratio is of at least 3.3:1

6. The one-piece suit according to claim 4, wherein the first ratio is of at least 3.3:1

7. The one-piece suit according to claim 3, wherein a second ratio of the first length to a third length between one of the two lateral points and the ventral or the dorsal point is of at least 1.5:1.

8. The one-piece suit according to claim 5, wherein a second ratio of the first length to a third length between one of the two lateral points and the ventral or the dorsal point is of at least 1.5:1.

9. The one-piece suit according to claim 7, wherein the second ratio is of at least 1.6:1.

10. The one-piece suit according to claim 7, wherein a third ratio of the third length to the second length is of at least 1.6:1.

11. The one-piece suit according to claim 10, wherein the third ratio is of at least 1.7:1.

12. The one-piece suit according to claim 8, wherein a third ratio of the third length to the second length is of at least 1.6:1.

13. The one-piece suit according to claim 12, wherein the third ratio is of at least 1.7:1.

14. The one-piece suit according to claim 18, wherein the rhomboid shape is a diamond shape.

15. The one-piece suit according to claim 1, further comprising means to open and close the ventral side or the dorsal side of the torso portion.

16. The one-piece suit according to claim 15, wherein the means comprises a zipper on the ventral side or the dorsal side of the torso portion.

17. A one-piece protective suit comprising: first and second leg portions respectively comprising first and second inseams; and a gusset positioned at a crotch portion of the one-piece protective suit between the first and second leg portions, the gusset comprising a front gusset seam and a back gusset seam connected at two opposite lateral points in the crotch portion, wherein the ventral seam connects to the front gusset seam at a ventral point of the crotch portion and the dorsal seam connects to the back gusset seam at a dorsal point of the crotch portion, the gusset having a diamond shape having the ventral point and the dorsal point at vertices thereof.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0023] A one-piece protective suit (hereinafter, “one-piece suit” or simply “suit”) adapted to be worn by user, such as the type of suit used for painting or other types of activities and/or work for which it would be desirable to wear a protective garment. The suit can be made of a nylon fabric or other suitable polyesters, and may in some instances be intended to be disposable after use. The present one-piece suit may therefore be a disposable paint suit, for example. Painting and similar other activities require mobility and flexibility, as well as comfort, because many consecutive hours can be spent carrying out the work and thus wearing the protective garment.

[0024] As will be described in further detail below, the one-piece suite 1 of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a gusset at the crotch to advantageously allow an individual wearing the one-piece suit to comfortable move, bend, squat, crouch and the like, with reduced risk of splitting the one-piece suit at the crotch in comparison with existing one-piece suit designs.

[0025] Referring to FIG. 1, a one-piece suit 1 has a first leg portion 10 and a second leg portion 11, a torso portion 12, a first arm portion 13 and a second arm portion 14, and a gusset 15 at the crotch of the one-piece suit 1. The one-piece suit 1 can optionally include a hood 16, and means to open and close a ventral side or a dorsal side of the torso portion 12. In FIG. 1 a zipper 17 is exemplified as a means to open and close the ventral side of the torso portion 12. The one-piece suit 1 can further optionally include elastic bands to improve the comfort and mobility of the one-piece suit 1. For example, elastic bands 18, 19 can be included on the first and second arm portions 13, 14 respectively. In a further example an elastic band 20 can surround the opening of the hood 16.

[0026] The first leg portion 10 and the second leg portion 11, have a first inseam 21 and a second inseam 22, respectively. The first inseam 21 and the second inseam 22 extend from the end of their respective leg portions 10, 11 to the gusset 15. The torso portion 12 has a ventral seam 23 on its ventral side extending from the ventral side of the gusset 15 and a dorsal seam 24 extending from the dorsal side of the gusset 15. As can be seen in FIG. 1, the first and second arm portions 13, 14 can optionally be seamless. In such embodiments, the first and second arm portions 13, 14 are connected to the torso portion 12 by connector seams 25, 26 respectively.

[0027] Turning to FIG. 2, a schematic bottom plan view 2 of the one-piece suit 1 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure is shown. The first leg portion 10 and the second leg portion 11 are positioned opposite each other and shown stretched. Accordingly, a horizontal central axis 27 can be defined extending centrally from one end of the first leg portion 10 to the end of the second leg portion 11. A vertical central axis 28 can also be defined extending centrally from the dorsal side to the ventral side. Around the intersection of the horizontal central axis 27 and the vertical central axis 28 a crotch portion of the one-piece suit 1 can be defined, delineated for example by axis 29. In some embodiments, as can be seen in FIG. 2, the gusset 15 can be located on the ventral side of the horizontal central axis 27.

[0028] FIG. 3 shows an enlarged view of the gusset 15. The gusset 15 has a front gusset seam 30, and a back gusset seam 31. The front gusset seam 30 and the back gusset seam 31 are connected at two opposite lateral points 32, 33, which are in turn connected to the first inseam 21 and the second inseam 22 respectively. The front gusset seam 30 is additionally connected to the ventral seam 23 at the ventral point 34. Similarly, the back gusset seam 31 is connected to the dorsal seam 24 at the dorsal point 35. FIG. 3 is shown with the two lateral points 32, 33, the ventral point 34 and the dorsal point 35 being pulled away and/or spaced apart from each other (i.e. stretching out the gusset 15). In one embodiment, the two lateral points 32, 33 can be pulled in opposite directions away from the gusset 15, while the ventral point 34 and the dorsal point 35 are also pulled in opposite directions away from the gusset 15. As can be seen in FIG. 3, when the points 32, 33, 34, and 35 are pulled away from each other the gusset 15 has a rhomboid shape. In some embodiments, the gusset 15 has a substantially diamond shape when the points 32, 33, 34, and 35 are pulled away from each other. However, the gusset 15 is flexible, and as can be seen in FIG. 1, the gusset 15 can have parabolic front and back gusset seams 30, 31.

[0029] The geometry, position, and size described herein forth in the present disclosure with respect to the gusset 15 are when the gusset 15 is in the stretched position i.e. when the points 32, 33, 34, and 35 are pulled away from each other. In some embodiments, the gusset 15 can be positioned such that the dorsal point 15 is on the horizontal central axis 27 as shown in FIG. 2. In further embodiments, the gusset 15 can be positioned such that the horizontal central axis 27 intersects the back gusset seam 31 as shown in FIG. 3. In yet further embodiments, the lateral points 32, 33 are ventral with respect to the horizontal central axis 27. In other words, the gusset 15 is positioned more ventrally than dorsally.

In some embodiments, a first ratio of the length of line 36 to the length of line 37 is of at least 3:1, at least 3.1:1, at least 3.2:1, or at least 3.3:1. In additional embodiments, the first ratio is at most 4:1. Alternatively or equivalently in embodiments where the gusset 15 is a diamond, the second ratio is calculated with the length of line 36 to the distance between points 32 and 35 or 33 and 35. In still further embodiments, the second ratio may be at most 2:1. In some embodiments, a third ratio of the distance between points 32 and 34 or 33 and 34 to the length of line 37 is of at least 1.6:1, at least 1.65:1, at least 1.7:1 or at least 1.75:1. Alternatively or equivalently in embodiments where the gusset 15 is a diamond, the third ratio is calculated with the distance between points 32 and 35 or 33 and 35 to the length of line 37. In further embodiments, the third ratio is of at most 2:1.
