Abstract
An octagon-shaped board game includes paddles and a low compression ball utilized for multi-participant gameplay. The game can be provided in two halves each having a topside, an underside, and an outer edge, and a hinge connecting and holding the two halves at the underside forming an octagon shape during gameplay, and enabling the two halves to fold against each other, the undersides facing each other, and forming a four-sided, half octagon shaped storage compartment within the underside of each halve once the halves are folded. Legs retractably mounted onto the underside of each halve can extend away from the underside to support the octagon-shaped foldable table above ground during gameplay and retract flat against the underside of their respective halve for storage prior to the octagon-shaped foldable table being folded.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0030] A multiplayer game that includes use of a folding, octagon-shaped board, more than one paddle, and a low compression ball will now be described. The multiplayer game will be referred to herein after as “DotBall360” or “the DotBall360° game” for convenience of the following description. Although specific dimensions may be provided within this description, they are being provided without suggesting limitations. It should be appreciated that the size of the disclosed DotBall360° game can be scaled to accommodate more or less players. Other dimensions are possible and can be utilized in fabricating aspects of the DotBall360° game.

[0033] An apron 213 can be formed on the underside 212 of the octagon-shaped table 100 along its edge 211. The apron 213 can also be formed at a short distance inward from the edge 211. For example, but without limitation, the apron 213 can be formed at least one inch in from the edge 211 and attached to or extend from the underside 212. With this placement, the apron 213 is also unlikely to interfere with the low compression bail when in-play because the sides of the apron 213, like the edge 212, go down at a 90 degree angle from the top surface. The apron 213 can extend up to 1.5 inches from the underside 212 of the octagon-shaped table 100. This can provide up to a 3″ enclosure when the two halves 101/102 are closed together, which can be ideal for storage of paddles, balls, and table legs.

[0038] DotBall360° game balls 800 can be provided at the size of a tennis ball or racket ball. Balls provided for use in the DotBall360° game are ideally low compression balls, also known as Stage 3 balls. Ideally, two balls can be provided with a DotBall360° game. Low compression balls are soft so that they can bounce lower and slower than standard tennis and racquet balls. For example, yellow tennis balls are harder and less compressible, therefore they bounce higher and faster than red, orange or green low compression tennis balls that are much softer by design than the yellow tennis balls so that they will bounce lower and allow for better control to trainees. Referring to
[0039] During gameplay, teams can have 3 contacts utilizing a DotBall paddle and a bounce between each contact to return a stage 3 DotBall clean off the top of the octagon changing possession to the opponent. There are no boundaries for teams when playing DotBall360°.
[0040] DotBall36° is easy to play for all types of players given its large surface and paddles with large ball contact surfaces to create cleaner touches with the low compression DotBall360° ball, The ball can bounce after contact with the surface of the octagon and after each hit giving the defense/offense time to return the ball keeping rallies alive, thus translating into more enjoyment for players and spectators. The offense can only put the ball away utilizing the paddle which is hard to manipulate and easier for the defense to read creating more touches. The serving team must serve overhand using the paddle making it predictable for the receiving team allowing the point to start with a return more often than not.
[0041] The DotBall360° complete set can include six DotBall360° paddles, 3 DotBall360° balls, and the octagon-shaped folding table. DotBall360° is a portable octagon-shaped game table that is foldable and can be easily set up basically anywhere. No boundaries, no designated court needed. Play 1vs1 (one person versus one person), 2vs2, 3vs3, and so on. Paddles and balls can all be enclosed within the octagon-shaped game table when it is folded, closed for easy transportation. Users can simply open the table, grab the paddles and ball, find level ground, extend the support legs, and begin playing a game
[0042] The table and paddles can be made from wood as well as a variety of plastic materials using known injection molding or blow molding processes. The DotBall360° game would be durable, rugged and weather resistant dependent on the choice of materials used for its fabrication.
[0043] Although the invention has been described in detail with reference to these preferred embodiments, other embodiments can achieve the same results. Variations and modifications of the present invention will be obvious to those skilled in the art and it is intended to cover all such modifications and equivalents. The entire disclosures of all references, applications, patents, and publications cited above and/or in the attachments, and of the corresponding application(s), are hereby incorporated by reference.
