Abstract
A light fixture mount is provided. The recessed light includes a junction box, a cable, a plurality of screws, and a mounting plate. The mounting plate includes a circular perforation, an alignment hole, at least one slot, and a plurality of holes spaced parallel to the at least one slot. The alignment hole is centered within the circular perforation. The at least one slot is configured to receive a first shank of a first fastener. The at least one slot has a width less than a first diameter of a first head of the first fastener. The plurality of holes is configured to receive a second shank of a second fastener. The plurality of holes has a second diameter that is less than a third diameter of a second head of the second fastener. A method of mounting the light fixture mount is also provided.
Claims
1. A light fixture mount comprising: a mounting plate including at least one slot, a plurality of openings adjacent to and parallel to the at least one slot, and a perforated circular portion, the perforated circular portion including an alignment hole in an approximate center of the perforated circular portion; a junction box attached to the mounting plates; and a cable connected to the junction box.
2. The light fixture mount of claim 1 wherein the junction box includes a plurality of wires connected to connectors.
3. The light fixture mount of claim 1 wherein the junction box includes a door.
4. The light fixture mount of claim 3 wherein the junction box is positioned on the mounting plate so that the door of the junction box faces towards the perforated circular portion.
5. The light fixture mount of claim 1 wherein the perforated circular portion is configured to be removed to leave an opening in the mounting plate.
6. The light fixture mount of claim 5 further including a light fixture extending through the opening in the mounting plate and secured to the mounting plate.
7. The light fixture mount of claim 1 wherein the mounting plate is configured to secure to a ceiling joist via at least one first fastener through the slot and at least one second fastener through the at least one opening of the plurality of openings.
8. A method of installing a light fixture mount comprising: receiving the light fixture mount, the light fixture mount including a mounting plate including at least one slot, a plurality of openings adjacent to and parallel to the at least one slot, and a perforated circular portion, the perforated circular portion including an alignment hole in an approximate center of the perforated circular portion; a junction box attached to the mounting plates, and a cable connected to the junction box; positioning a laser pointer on a floor directly under a ceiling where a light fixture is to be mounted; fastening the mounting plate to a ceiling joist with a first fastener through the slot at an approximate location of where the light fixture is to be mounted; adjusting the mounting plate until the laser pointer passes a laser through the alignment hole in the mounting plate; and fastening the adjusted mounting plate to the ceiling joist with a second fastener through an opening of the plurality of openings in the mounting plate.
9. The method of claim 8 wherein the junction box includes a plurality of wires connected to connectors.
10. The method of claim 8 wherein the junction box includes a door.
11. The method of claim 10 wherein the junction box is positioned on the mounting plate so that the door of the junction box faces towards the perforated circular portion.
12. The method of claim 8 wherein the perforated circular portion is configured to be removed to leave an opening in the mounting plate.
13. The method of claim 12 further including a light fixture extending through the opening in the mounting plate and secured to the mounting plate.
14. The method of claim 8 wherein the mounting plate is configured to secure to a ceiling joist via at least one first fastener through the slot and at least one second fastener through the at least one opening of the plurality of openings.
15. The method of claim 8 further including securing a light fixture to the mounting plate.
16. The method of claim 15 further including connecting the light fixture to the junction box.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0015] A light fixture mount and method of installing the light fixture mount is provided. The light fixture mount includes a junction box, a cable, and a mounting plate. Each hole of the plurality of holes is configured to receive a second shank of a second fastener. The light fixture mount is configured to position and secure a light fixture to a ceiling joist. The light fixture mount allows for flexibility in the placement and position of light fixtures. The slot and plurality of openings in the mounting plate allow for flexibility in the lateral direction while maintaining a connection to a ceiling joist.
