Abstract
A coupling device for connecting first and second chalk lines includes a generally planar body portion having a first end, a second end and opposed sides edges, an aperture formed in the body portion adjacent to the first end for attaching a free end of a first chalk line to the coupling device, and a spring hook connected to a first of the opposed side edges and being configured to receive a second chalk line.
Claims
1. A coupling device for connecting lines, comprising: a body portion having opposed first and second ends, and opposed first and second lateral sides, the body portion being configured to receive a free end of a first line at the first end; and a spring hook attached to the first lateral side of the body portion and being configured to releasably engage a second line; wherein the spring hook engages a portion of the second line adjacent to a distal end of the second line; wherein the spring hook includes a base end attached to the first lateral side, and a clip end biased to a position where the clip end contacts the first lateral side at a point intermediate the first end and the second end of the body portion to securely hold the second line; and wherein the base end of the spring hook is attached to the first lateral side at a point adjacent to the first end such that the clip end of the spring hook is positioned closer to the second end of the body portion than the base end of the spring hook.
2. The coupling device of claim 1, wherein: the clip end is movable against a bias of the spring hook to enable insertion of the portion of the second line between the first lateral side and the clip end.
3. The coupling device of claim 1, wherein: the body portion includes an aperture at the first end for receiving the free end of the first line; and the coupling device further includes at least one clip extending generally perpendicular from the body portion at the second end.
4. The coupling device of claim 3, wherein: the at least one clip has a pointed tip for anchoring the coupling device.
5. The coupling device of claim 4, wherein: the at least one clip is two clips.
6. The coupling device of claim 4, wherein: the first and second lateral sides are curved.
7. The coupling device of claim 1, wherein: the opposed first and second lateral sides of the body portion are parallel.
8. The coupling device of claim 7, wherein: the spring hook extends from the first end of the body portion to the second end of the body portion.
9. The coupling device of claim 1, wherein: the spring hook extends outwardly from the first lateral side.
10. A coupling device for connecting first and second chalk lines, comprising: a generally planar body portion having a first end, a second end and opposed sides edges; an aperture formed in the body portion adjacent to the first end for attaching a free end of a first chalk line to the coupling device; and a spring hook connected to a first of the opposed side edges adjacent to the first end, and extending generally toward the second end, the spring hook being configured to receive a second chalk line.
11. The coupling device of claim 10, wherein: the spring hook includes a base end attached to the first of the opposed side edges, and a clip end biased to a position where the clip end contacts the first of the opposed side edges to securely hold the second chalk line.
12. The coupling device of claim 11, wherein: the clip end is movable against a bias of the spring hook to enable insertion of the portion of the second line between the first lateral side and the clip end.
13. The coupling device of claim 12, wherein: the body portion includes an aperture at the first end for receiving the free end of the first chalk line; and the coupling device further includes at least one clip extending generally perpendicular from the body portion at the second end.
14. The coupling device of claim 13, wherein: the at least one clip has a pointed tip for anchoring the coupling device.
15. The coupling device of claim 14, wherein: the at least one clip is two clips.
16. The coupling device of claim 11, wherein: the opposed side edges are curved.
17. A method for connecting first and second chalk lines, comprising the steps of: securing a first chalk line to a first end of a coupling device having a generally planar body portion having the first end, a second end and opposed sides edges, and a spring hook connected to a first of the opposed side edges adjacent to the first end and extending generally towards the second end; and coupling a second chalk line to the body portion via the spring hook.
18. The method according to claim 17, wherein: the spring hook includes a base end attached to the first of the opposed side edges, and a clip end biased to a position where the clip end contacts the first of the opposed side edges to securely hold the second chalk line; and wherein the method further includes moving the spring hook against the bias, inserting the second chalk line between the clip end and the first of the opposed side edges of the body portion, and releasing the spring hook.
19. The method according to claim 18, further comprising the step of: reeling in the first chalk line to recharge the first chalk line; and reeling in the second chalk line to recharge the second chalk line; wherein the reeling steps are accomplished without decoupling the first chalk line from the second chalk line.
