Abstract
The present invention is a lower back restoration device to keep the legs in a position in which the lower back and knees form a desired angle. The device has an elevated base portion comprising of leg receiving channels to position the legs of the user bent at the knees at approximately 90 degrees. The base has a height that is substantially adjustable to the length of the upper legs of the user. The device keeps the knees in separated position and symmetrically spaced from each other and keeps the legs in-line and prevent of twisting the lower back, thereby keeps the lower back in neutral position and removes the pressure from the lower back.
Claims
1) An adjustable, lower back restoration device to hold a user's lower back, lower legs, knees and upper legs in a desired position, comprising: a) a base having a top, a bottom, a right side and a left side, a length, and wherein the right side and the left side are upwardly extended beyond the top of the base creating a space between them to receive the lower legs of the user; b) a central portion upwardly upstanding to divide the space between the right side and the left side into a right channel and a left channel, wherein the right channel receives a right leg of a user and the left channel receives a left leg of a user; c) a front flap attached to the bottom of the base on which the user's lower back rests and holds the device secure; d) a height adjustment system to adjust the height of the base to configure to the upper leg height of a user, whereby the lower legs are positioned in the right channel and the left channel with the knees separated and the upper legs set at a desired angle with respect to the lower back and symmetrically spaced with each other, keeping the legs in-line and preventing twisting the lower back, thereby keeping the lower back in neutral position and removing the pressure from the lower back to reduce lower back pain.
2) The device of claim 1, wherein the device comprises of multiple inflatable sections.
3) The device of claim 1, wherein the height adjustment system comprising: at least a first inflatable layer and a second inflatable layer on the bottom of the base, whereby the user can control the amount of the air inserted into the first layer and the second layer to achieve the desired height or to have the upper legs at the desired angle with respect to the lower back of the user.
4) The device of claim 1, wherein the desired angle with respect to the lower back of the user is 90 degrees.
5) The device of claim 1, wherein the first and second inflatable layers have an inclined shape to control the angle of the device to achieve a comfortable angle of the lower legs and the upper legs in relation to the lower back, whereby the user can move backward or forward while keeping the desired angle constant by inflating and deflating the first and the second layers.
6) The device of claim 1, further has a securing belt attached to the bottom to comfortably and effectively secure the device to the user, even when the user moves from side to side.
7) The device of claim 1, wherein the height of the central portion is substantially longer than the height of the right and left sides.
8) The device of claim 1, wherein the right side and the left side are tapered inward toward the central portion to provide more stability to the legs inside the right channel and the left channel.
9) The device of claim 1, wherein the device has rounded edges on the right side, left side, bottom side and back side to make it easier to tip sideways and then return to an upright position.
10) The device of claim 1, wherein the device is made of memory foam, compressed foam, polypill, or other device fill materials.
11) An adjustable, lower back restoration frame to hold a user's lower back, lower legs, knees and upper legs in a desired position, comprising: a “Z” shaped frame having a height, a length and a width, and comprising a first section to support the lower back of the user, a second section to support the upper legs of the user, and a third section to support the lower legs of the user, and a flexible material covering the “Z” shaped frame.
12) The frame of claim 11, wherein the “Z” shaped frame comprises of a set of telescopic tubes adjustably attachable to each other and configured to adjust the height of the “Z” shaped frame.
13) The frame of claim 11, wherein the height is from 14 to 16 inches.
14) The frame of claim 11, wherein the length is from 11 to 22 inches to accommodate people from under 5 feet to about 7 feet tall.
15) The frame of claim 11, further comprising a set of lower leg supporting plates on the third section of the device to support the lower legs in a stable position.
16) The frame of claim 11, wherein the flexible material is fabric or foam.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0057] The device 10 includes a base 11 comprising a top portion 12, a bottom portion 13, lateral side portions 14, 16, a front portion 21 and a rear portion 22. The lateral side portions 14, 16 are extended upwardly on the sides. The device 10 further has a centrally upstanding portion 15 located on the top portion 12 of the base 11 dividing the spaces between the central portion 15 and the lateral side portions 14 and 16 to leg receiving channels 18 and 20 to receive the lower legs of the user. The leg receiving channels 18, 20 extend parallel to each other in a longitudinal direction from top portion 12 and are symmetrical.
[0058] The height of the base 11 from bottom 13 to top 12 is substantially equal to the length of the upper leg of a user and is adjustable. The length of the base 11 from the front portion 21 to the back portion 22 is substantially equal to the lower legs of a typical user from the knee to the ankle and the width of the base 11. The space between the lateral sides 14 and 16 is substantially equal to slightly greater than the width of the both lower legs. The length of the lateral sides 14 and 16 and the central portion 15 are long enough to prevent the legs sliding out and to keep the legs inside the channels 18 and 20. The lateral sides 14 and 16 and the centrally upstanding portion 15 have further a thickness so that the lower legs are hereby supported parallel to each other at a spacing of approximately 10 cm. It is commonly understood that the lower back of the user can only relax completely when the upper legs are at approximately 90 degrees to the torso and are placed symmetrically, with a space between each other and when the hips remain in-line and even with each other.
[0059] The present invention 10 provides a height adjustment system to adjust the height of the base 11 with the height of all individuals to achieve the principals of the invention. The height adjustment system allows for an easy and rapid height adjustment, both in terms of increasing the height as well as decreasing the height of the device 10. A first inflatable layer 50 and a second inflatable layer 51 are shaped and sized to be provided underneath of the bottom portion 13 of the base 11.

Each layer is provided with a valve 52 and 53 configured for adding air into the inner space of the layers. The user can control the amount of the air inserted into the layers to adjust the height of the device 10. It is to be understood that more layers can be used to further achieve the principles of the invention. The user can adjust the height of the device by inflating and deflating the layers 50 and 51. This benefits potential users from 4 feet tall to 7 feet tall. The device can vary in height from the base to the horizontal portion where the lower legs rest from, 12 inches to 21 inches. This provides parameters for the spectrum of adjustability of the inflatable base to create different appropriate heights based on femur (thigh bone) length. The layers 50 and 51 can be fabricated in various configuration.

A plurality of air-channels may be provided in the device portions 10 and layers 50, 51 to channel the air and inflate the device 10 in a specific sequence. Air inflation into the inner space of the device 10 and the inner space of the layers 50, 51 can be achieved by air pump. In one embodiment the air valves 52, 53 can be selected from air valves with levers. The inflation and deflation of the layers 50, 51 can be controlled by the lever of the air valves. [0064] When a user is lying on a surface the lower legs 40 and 42 will tend as a result of gravitational force to sink to the deepest point of the leg receiving channels 18 and 20 while the upper legs 41 and 43 are positioned in a relation to the front portion of the base 21 creating an approximate 90 degrees angle. A further advantage of the channels 18 and 20, is that the user does not have to use any muscular strength to hold the lower legs 40 and 42 in the ideal position, since the lower legs 40, and 42 will remain laying in the channels 18 and 20 and supported in an ideal position simply due to gravitational force. This fact enhances relaxing of the lower back 45, since the legs lie even, symmetrical and relaxed in the channels 18 and 20 with the knees 43 and 44 which are folded at an angle of 90 degrees. The soft but firm sides of the device further allow the legs to drop to the sides into a state of complete muscular relaxation.

The degree variance allowed, simply from the user moving their body forward or back on the front flap 30 is approximately 45 degrees to 135 degrees.
