Abstract
A landing apparatus for a reusable launch vehicle is provided, including a landing leg pivotably mounted at one end to the reusable launch vehicle, for example, to a propellant tank part, and mounted at the other end to the propellant tank part by a detaching means such as a pyro bolt for example, a cover mounted to an outside of the landing leg along a longitudinal direction of the landing leg, and a leg landing plate mounted to a distal end of the landing leg and relatively pivotable with respect to the landing leg by its own weight when the other end of the landing leg is separated from the propellant tank part.
Claims
1. A reusable launch vehicle including a landing apparatus, the landing apparatus comprising: a landing leg pivotably mounted at one end to the reusable launch vehicle, and mounted to be selectively detachable from the other end to the reusable launch vehicle; a cover pivotably mounted to the landing apparatus to cover an outside of the landing leg near the one end; a leg landing plate mounted at the other end of the landing leg and relatively pivotable with respect to the landing leg by its own weight when the other end of the landing leg is separated from the reusable launch vehicle; and a mechanism configured to detachably fix the other end of the landing leg to the reusable launch vehicle in a manner such that the other end is selectively detachable from the reusable launch vehicle, wherein, during landing of the reusable launch vehicle, when the other end of the landing leg is separated from the reusable launch vehicle by the mechanism, the cover is configured to be spread by way of air resistance, and the landing leg is configured to extend longitudinally along the landing leg.
2. The reusable launch vehicle according to claim 1, wherein the landing leg is an extendable multi-stage cylinder.
3. The reusable launch vehicle according to claim 2, wherein the one end of the landing leg is pivotably mounted to an upper mount frame of the reusable launch vehicle, and an upper cylinder of the multi-stage cylinder is provided with a protrusion, such that, when the landing leg is pivoted by a predetermined angle with respect to the reusable launch vehicle, the protrusion comes into contact with the upper mount frame to prevent the landing leg from being pivoted further.
4. The reusable launch vehicle according to claim 3, wherein a point at which the one end of the landing leg is mounted to the upper mount frame is positioned higher than a center of gravity of the reusable launch vehicle.
5. The reusable launch vehicle according to claim 1, wherein the mechanism comprises a pyro bolt.
6. The reusable launch vehicle according to claim 3, wherein the upper mount frame is fixed to a Y-ring part of a propellant tank part of the reusable launch vehicle.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
(14) Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, which will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the present disclosure pertains. However, it will be understood that the present disclosure can be implemented in various other different forms and should not be construed as being limited to certain examples described herein.
(15) For reference,
(16) As illustrated in
(17) The landing apparatus for a reusable launch vehicle may further include a detaching means for fixing the other end 12 of the landing leg 1 to the reusable launch vehicle in a manner such that the other end 12 is selectively detachable from the reusable launch vehicle. For example, the detaching means may be a pyro bolt 4.
(18) Specifically, as illustrated in
(19) As illustrated in
(20) Meanwhile, the landing leg 1 may be a pneumatically or hydraulically extendable multi-stage cylinder 1. As illustrated in
(21) The cover 2 is mounted to the outside of the landing leg 1 along a longitudinal direction of the landing leg 1, that is, along the extension direction of the multi-stage cylinder. The cover 2 has an approximately rectangular shape, with left and right ends being gently bent in a direction of surrounding the landing leg 1 (see
(22) As illustrated in
(23) Meanwhile, as illustrated in
(24) As illustrated in
(25) Hereinafter, the operation of the landing apparatus for a reusable launch vehicle having the configuration as described above will be described.
(26) First, as illustrated in
(27) As illustrated in
(28) When the landing leg 1 is pivoted with respect to the propellant tank part 100 by a predetermined angle θ, the protrusion 131 of the landing leg 1 comes into contact with the upper mount frame 101 fixed to the propellant tank part 100, thereby preventing the landing leg 1 from being pivoted further.
(29) As the multi-stage cylinder of the landing leg 1 extends in the longitudinal direction, the landing leg 1 is unfolded.
(30) When the other end 12 of the landing leg 1 is separated from the propellant tank part 100, the leg landing plate 3 mounted at the distal end of the landing leg 1 is pivoted by its own weight to face the ground.
(31) As described above, the landing apparatus for a reusable launch vehicle according to examples of the present disclosure has a simple structure and can be used to efficiently and stably land the first stage of the launch vehicle rocket on the ground.
(32) Although the present disclosure has been described in connection with some examples herein, the present disclosure should not be limited to those examples only, and various other changes and modifications made by those skilled in the art from the basic concept of the disclosure are also within the scope of the claims appended herein.
