FOOD SUPPLEMENT, USES THEREOF, METHOD FOR FOOD SUPPLEMENTATION, AND ORAL SPRAY

Abstract

The invention relates to a food supplement containing minerals and/or vitamins, a humectant and, for example, essential oils. The food supplement is formulated as an oral spray. In particular, the invention relates to a concentrated food supplement in the form of an oral spray, containing a combination of magnesium ions, panthenol (vitamin B5), caffeine, menthol aroma and/or peppermint aroma, and a humectant. The food supplement is particularly suited for use in sport and in stressful situations.

23. A food supplement comprising an aqueous solution or emulsion of a) at least one mineral selected from the group consisting of minerals containing magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron, zinc, selenium, manganese as well as mixtures and combinations thereof; and/or b) at least one vitamin and/or at least one provitamin selected from the group consisting of pantothenic acid, dexpanthenol, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, niacin, folic acid, thiamine, riboflavin, biotin, mixtures thereof, and combinations thereof; c) at least one humectant for moisturizing and maintaining moisture of the oral mucosa and/or of the pharyngeal area; and d) at least one component that promotes a feeling of free deep breathing; wherein the food supplement is in the form of an oral spray.

The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, wherein the at least one mineral a) is so concentrated that at least 15% and at most 140% of the recommended daily allowance in accordance with Annex 1 of the Directive 2008/100/EC of the Commission of Oct. 28, 2008 (Recommended Daily Allowance, RDA) of the respective magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron, zinc, selenium, and/or manganese is contained in an application amount of 0.1 to 10 ml.

The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, wherein the at least one vitamin b) is each so concentrated that at least 15% and at most 140% of the recommended daily allowance in accordance with Annex 1 of the Directive 2008/100/EC of the Commission of Oct. 28, 2008 (Recommended Daily Allowance, RDA) is contained in an application amount of 0.1 to 10 ml.

26. The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, wherein 0.01 to 15 wt. % of the at least one humectant c) is contained relative to the food supplement.

27. The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, wherein the at least one component d) that promotes the feeling of free deep breathing is selected from the group consisting of crystalline menthol, menthol oil, menthol aroma, and mixtures and combinations thereof.

28. The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, wherein the at least one component d) that promotes the feeling of free deep breathing is selected from the group consisting of peppermint extract, peppermint oil, peppermint aroma, and mixtures and combinations thereof.

29. The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, wherein the at least one mineral is selected from the group consisting of inorganic or organic salts of magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron, zinc, and manganese.

30. The food supplement in accordance with claim 29, wherein the at least one mineral is selected from the group consisting of inorganic or organic magnesium salts.

31. The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, wherein the humectant is selected from the group consisting of polyhydroxy compounds comprising sorbite, 1,2-propanediol, glycerin, cellulose derivatives, and mixtures and combinations thereof.

32. The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, wherein the at least one vitamin and/or the at least one provitamin is pantothenic acid or dexpanthenol.

33. The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, which additionally contains caffeine.

34. The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, which contains at least one substance that enhances viscosity.

35. The food supplement in accordance with claim 34, wherein the at least one substance that enhances viscosity is selected from the group consisting of alginate, xanthan, gum arabic, glycosaminoglycans, and combinations thereof.

36. The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, which includes at least one additive, wherein the at least one additive is selected from the group consisting of emulsifiers, oils, carbohydrates, essential oils or extracts, sweeteners, expectorants, buffers, complexing agents, and auxiliary agents for food supplements.

The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, wherein at least one medium chain triglyceride or MCT oil is contained as an additive and is selected from the group consisting of medium chain triglycerides or MCT oils, whose fatty acids are at least 90 mol % C-8 fatty acid (caprylic acid) and C-10 fatty acid (capric acid), vegetable medium chain triglycerides or MCT oils from coconut oil and/or palm oil, and mixtures, and combinations thereof.

38. The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, which is free of cyclodextrin.

39. The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, wherein the emulsion is a microemulsion or a nanoemulsion.

41. The food supplement in accordance with claim 23, which is free of preservatives.

42. A method for non-therapeutic food supplementation in which a food supplement in accordance with claim 23 is applied into the mouth of a person in the form of a spray.

43. The method in accordance with claim 42, wherein the food supplement is for a non-therapeutic food supplementation.

44. The method in accordance with claim 43, which is for supporting the establishing of an enhanced mental and physical performance capability, focusing, and concentration in stress, strain, and anxiety situations, for improving mental and physical well-being and optimization of physical parameters in, during, and after stress situations and for rehabilitation, for relieving strain and stress and anxiety situations and for improving mental and physical wellbeing.

45. A food composition comprising an aqueous solution or emulsion containing: a) at least one mineral selected from the group consisting of minerals containing magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron, zinc, selenium, manganese, mixtures and combinations thereof; b) at least one vitamin and/or at least one provitamin selected from the group consisting of pantothenic acid, dexpanthenol, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, niacin, folic acid, thiamin, riboflavin, biotin, and mixtures and combinations thereof; c) at least one component for moisturizing and maintaining moisture of the lining of the mouth and/or of the pharyngeal area (humectant); and/or d) at least one component that promotes the feeling of free deep breathing, in the form of an oral spray which is for application in the treatment of mucous obstructions or in the treatment or the prevention of muscle cramps.
