Abstract
A combined vegetable peeler and fruit peeler includes a handle and at least one leg extending from the handle. A slotted blade is mounted to the handle for peeling vegetables. The leg includes a citrus slicer having a cutting edge for slicing the rind of fruit. The leg may further include a peeling blade in the form of a protrusion having reduced thickness, with the peeling blade having utility in peeling the rind from fruit.
Claims
1. A combined vegetable and fruit peeler, comprising: a handle; at least one leg extending from said handle; a slotted blade mounted to said at least one leg; and a citrus slicer extending from said at least one leg, said citrus slicer including a sharp edge extending outward from said at least one leg; a peeling blade as an area of said at least one leg, said area having a width; wherein said peeling blade forms a protrusion extending an exterior surface of said at least one leg in a direction generally perpendicular to said width of said area, and, in a cross-section transverse to a central longitudinal axis of said at least one leg, the protrusion has a convexly profiled exterior surface extending generally parallel with said width of said area and has a reduced thickness leading to a sharpened edge at a periphery of said at least one leg.
2. (canceled)
3. A combined vegetable and fruit peeler as in claim 1, wherein said at least one leg comprises first and second legs, and wherein said slotted blade includes first and second ends; said first end mounting to said first leg, and said second end mounting to said second leg.
4. A combined vegetable and fruit peeler as in claim 1, further including a notching member mounted to said at least one leg.
5. A combined vegetable and fruit peeler as in claim 1, wherein said at least one leg and said peeling blade are a monolithic body.
6. A combined vegetable and fruit peeler as in claim 5, wherein said peeling blade tapers smoothly into a remainder of said at least one leg.
7. A combined vegetable and fruit peeler as in claim 1, wherein said width of said area is greater than a width of a remainder of said at least one leg, and said peeling blade has reduced thickness leading to a first sharpened edge at a front periphery of said at least one leg and has reduced leading to a second sharpened edge at a rear periphery of said at least one leg.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0020] With reference to
[0021] In the embodiment shown in
[0022] In the embodiment shown in
[0023] As is known in the art, the second leg 26 may mount a notching member 28. These typically take the form of an annular extension having relatively sharp front and back edges. The notching member 28 is well known for removing the eyes from potatoes or other vegetable imperfections.
[0024] The inventive feature of the present peeler 10 is the inclusion of citrus implements as well. In particular, the first leg 24 mounts a citrus slicer 30 in the form of an protrusion extending from the first leg 24 and having a tapered portion leading to a pointed end forming a relatively sharp edge 32 extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the citrus slicer 30. In the preferred form, the citrus slicer 30 is formed as a monolithic extension of the first leg 24. As is known in the art, the sharp edge 32 is inserted into the peel of a citrus, such as an orange, and the citrus slicer 30 is then manually drawn along the periphery of the citrus to create a long continuous slice.
[0025] While the inclusion of the citrus slicer 30 expands the use of the peeler 10 from the usual vegetables-only to also include fruit, it is preferred that the peeler 10 provide more utility with regard to fruits. To achieve this, the first leg 24 is modified to form a peeling blade 34. As shown, this peeling blade is comprised of an area of leg 24 which has a greater width than the remainder, so as to form a protrusion 36. This protrusion is preferably tapered on each side to blend smoothly into the remainder of leg 24, but this is not required. Further, the peeling blade has a reduced thickness leading to a sharpened edge along the protrusion 36. This is best illustrated in the cross-section of
[0026] In the embodiment of
[0027] From the foregoing it will be seen that this invention is one well adapted to attain all ends and objects set forth above together with the other advantages which are inherent within its structure.
[0028] It will be understood that certain features and subcombinations are of utility and may be employed without reference to other features and subcombinations. This is contemplated by and is within the scope of the claims.
[0029] Since many possible embodiments may be made of the invention without departing from the scope thereof, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth of shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.
