Abstract

A new and distinct cultivar of Begonia masoniana plant named EC-BEGO-1901 is disclosed, characterized by a unique, striking brown leaf rim against bright green leaves with a distinct puckered upper surface. The color pattern of the leaf also includes a unique brown palmate center patch. The new variety is a Begonia, and is normally used as an ornamental garden or container plant.

Description

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS

(1) The accompanying photograph in FIG. 1 illustrates in full color a typical plant of EC-BEGO-1901 grown in a greenhouse. The plant is approximately 30 weeks of age in a 25 cm pot.

(2) FIG. 2 illustrates a close up of the foliage. The photograph was taken using conventional techniques and although colors may appear different from actual colors due to light reflectance it is as accurate as possible by conventional photographic techniques.

DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION

(3) In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart 2015 except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The following observations and measurements describe 30-week-old EC-BEGO-1901 plants grown in September in a greenhouse in Sappemeer, The Netherlands. Measurements and numerical values represent averages of typical plant types. Botanical classification: Begonia masoniana EC-BEGO-1901. Age of plant described: Approximately 30 weeks. Container size: 11 cm.

(4) Type of propagation typically used: Leaf cuttings. Time to develop roots: About 15 days at approximately 21 C. in Summer. Time to develop a rooted liner: About 70 days at approximately 21 C. in Summer. Root description: Herbaceous, fine, moderately dense, freely branching. Brown in color, not accurately measured with RHS chart.
