Abstract
A bidirectional, wedge clamp is disclosed. Conventional clamps, such as those used with electrical cables mainly secure a line in a single direction. The invention herein being comprised of a bidirectional clamp for conventional cables, wires and rope etc. (herein referred to as a line) having a simple and easily-operable construction, wherein two plate-like members and an outer sleeve-like member are telescopically assembled to clamp a line there between. Plates and sleeve members having a plurality of interconnected, opposing number of wedges that when acted upon in a lateral motion by a line there between, causing said wedges to slide against one anotherthereby tightening down the plates onto said line and preventing slippage. An object of the invention is to clamp a line and prevent slipping laterally in either direction along the line's longitudinal axis.
Claims
1. A clamp comprising: (a) sleeves; (b) wedge plates; and (c) a plurality of fasteners.
2. The sleeves of claim 1 having a multitude of wedge portions.
3. The wedge portions of claim 2 being configured with opposing raised portions.
4. The wedge plates of claim 1 having a multitude of wedge portions.
5. The wedge portions of claim 4 being configured with opposing raised portions.
6. A method of clamping a line. Said method comprising the steps of: (a) mating wedge plates around a line; (b) linking wedge plates in an inseparable condition; and (c) restraining a line by a wedge action.
7. The linking wedge plates in an inseparable condition of claim 6 by means of fasteners and sleeves of claim 1.
8. The fasteners in claim 7 being operated with conventional tools.
9. The restraining a line by a wedge action of claim 6 furthermore comprising preventing the line from slipping in either direction by means of opposing wedge portions on wedge plates of claim 1.
