    Abstract

    A rest for a pistol having a takedown passage and defining a major side plane. The rest comprises a post configured to be closely received by the passage; a planar rest element pivotally connected to the post and movable between an active position perpendicular to the side plane and a retracted position parallel to the side plane; and the rest element being biased to the active position.

    DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

    [0012] FIG. 1. (Left side) This illustration shows the two main components of the thumb rest assembly. Part 1 (Main Arm Body) is parallel to the firearm frame and part(s) 3 and 4 of the thumb rest plate are perpendicular (90 degrees) to the firearm frame in detent position.

    [0013] Item 1: illustrates (1 of 2) of the main components of the assembly as it replaces the factory takedown lever on the Sig Sauer P320 Series of pistols. (Like designs of this folding part can/will be adapted for other firearms at any later date whether they are takedown lever, trigger pin, frame (lower) or picatinny mounted.

    [0014] Item 2: illustrates the M4 screw hole through the item 1 assembly for uses of a M4×0.50 proprietary set screw (described in a later FIG. 4).

The off-hand thumb is placed on the area indicated in item 4 on the left side of the firearm acting as a rest to significantly reduce recoil due to the thumb pressing forward at 55 degrees and interrupting the upward rotation of the muzzle when firing a firearm.

The torsion spring (item 5) is responsible for providing torsion to detent the thumb rest (item 5) back to the detent angle of 90 degrees after the thumb rest (item 3-4) clears the holster body.
