PROTECTIVE COVERINGS FOR HANDS AND FEET

Abstract

A protective covering for skin can include a UV protective member having main body portion and at least one elongated appendage shaped portion extending from the main body portion, and an adhesive layer disposed on the UV protective layer. The adhesive layer can be configured to adhere to human skin.

Claims

1. A protective covering for skin, comprising: a UV protective member having main body portion and at least one elongated appendage shaped portion extending from the main body portion; and an adhesive layer disposed on the UV protective layer, the adhesive layer configured to adhere to human skin.

2. The protective covering of claim 1, wherein the main body portion is back-of-hand shaped, wherein the at least one elongated appendage includes five elongated appendages that are configured to cover each finger of a hand.

3. The protective covering of claim 2, wherein the protective covering is configured to cover an entire top of a hand and fingers, and at least a portion of a side of each finger.

4. The protective covering of claim 3, wherein the five elongated appendages include a thumb, an index finger, a middle finger, a ring finger, and a pinky finger, each shaped differently.

5. The protective covering of claim 4, wherein each elongated appendage includes one or more perforations configured to allow tearing, trimming, and/or cutting at the perforations to change a length of each elongated appendage to match each finger of a wearer to cover only skin up to a nail.

6. The protective covering of claim 1, wherein the main body portion is top-of-foot shaped and configured to adhere to a top of a foot.

7. The protective covering of claim 1, wherein the UV protective member is made of a base layer and a UV reflective coating layer.

8. The protective covering of claim 7, wherein the UV reflective coating is disposed on an opposite side of the base layer as the adhesive layer.

9. The base layer of claim 7, wherein the base layer is comprised of at least one of a plastic material and/or fabric material.

10. A kit for protecting skin against UV exposure comprising: a plurality of protective coverings for skin, comprising: a UV protective member having main body portion and at least one elongated appendage shaped portion extending from the main body portion; and an adhesive layer disposed on the UV protective layer, the adhesive layer configured to adhere to human skin.

11. The kit of claim 10, wherein the main body portion is back-of-hand shaped, wherein the at least one elongated appendage includes five elongated appendages that are configured to cover each finger of a hand.

12. The kit of claim 11, wherein the protective covering is configured to cover an entire top of a hand and fingers, and at least a portion of a side of finger.

13. The kit of claim 12, wherein the five elongated appendages include a thumb, an index finger, a middle finger, a ring finger, and a pinky finger, each shaped differently.

14. The kit of claim 13, wherein each elongated appendage includes one or more perforations configured to allow tearing, trimming and/or cutting at the perforations to change a length of each elongated appendage to match each finger of a wearer to cover only skin up to a nail.

15. The kit of claim 10, wherein the main body portion is top-of-foot shaped and configured to adhere to a top of a foot.

16. The kit of claim 10, wherein the UV protective member is made of a base layer and a UV reflective coating layer.

17. The kit of claim 16, wherein the UV reflective coating is disposed on an opposite side of the base layer as the adhesive layer.

18. The base layer of claim 16, wherein the base layer is comprised of at least one of a plastic material and/or fabric material.

19. A method for protecting skin against UV exposure comprising: removing a plurality of protective coverings from a package; removing a temporary layer from an adhesive layer of the protective covering, exposing the adhesive layer; adhering the protective covering to an area of skin to be exposed to UV light; and removing the protective covering from the skin after completion of UV light exposure.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0017] Reference will now be made to the drawings wherein like reference numerals identify similar structural features or aspects of this disclosure. For purposes of explanation and illustration, and not limitation, an embodiment of a protective cover is shown in FIG. 1 and is designated generally by reference character 100. Other embodiments and/or aspects thereof are shown in FIGS. 1-4.

[0018] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, a protective covering 100 for protecting skin against UV light can comprise a UV protective member 102 having main body portion 104 and at least one elongated appendage shaped portion 106 extending from the main body portion 104. The protective covering 100 can also include an adhesive layer 108 disposed on the UV protective covering 100.

[0019] The adhesive layer 108 can be configured to adhere to human skin. The adhesive layer 108 can completely cover the UV protective UV protective member 102, or can be disposed on less than all of the UV protective member (e.g., in a single area or multiple separate areas). Any suitable type of adhesive is contemplated herein.

[0020] In certain embodiments, the main body portion 104 can back-of-hand shaped. The at least one elongated appendage 106 includes five elongated appendages that are configured to cover each finger of a hand, for example.

[0021] The protective covering 100 can be configured to cover an entire top of a hand and fingers, and at least a portion of a side of each finger, for example (e.g., as shown in FIG. 4). For example, the five elongated appendages 106 can include a thumb, an index finger, a middle finger, a ring finger, and a pinky finger, each shaped differently (e.g., of different lengths), e.g., as shown. Each elongated appendage 106 can include one or more perforations 110 configured to allow for tearing, cutting, and/or trimming at the perforations 110 to change a length of each elongated appendage 106. This can allow a user to match each finger of a wearer to cover only skin up to a nail to leave a nail exposed. It also can allow manufacture of a one size fits all protective cover instead of multiple sizes for different customers.

[0022] In certain embodiments, the main body portion 104 can be top-of-foot shaped and can be configured to adhere to a top of a foot. Accordingly, one having ordinary skill in the art in view of this disclosure understands that all embodiments disclosed herein can be applied to foot shaped embodiments (e.g., an appendage for each tow, perforations for changing length, etc.).

[0023] Referring now to FIG. 2, the UV protective member 102 can made of a base layer 112 and a UV non-transmissive (e.g., reflective or absorptive) coating layer 114. The UV non-transmissive coating 114 can be disposed on an opposite side of the base layer 112 and the adhesive layer 108. The adhesive layer 108 can be covered by a removable adhesive cover 116 (e.g., wax paper or other non-stick layer), until removed by the user to be applied to skin. Any suitable base layer 112 is contemplated herein (e.g., clear and flexible plastic, soft fabric material. It is contemplated that the UV protective member 102 may be a single layer of material that has UV non-transmissive properties and a separate UV non-transmissive layer need not be separately applied, for example.

[0024] In accordance with at least one aspect of this disclosure, referring to FIG. 3, a kit 150 for protecting skin against UV exposure can comprise a plurality of protective coverings 100. For example, a kit 150 can include a right hand protective cover and a left hand protective cover enclosed in a sealed, sanitary package. The kit 150 can include a number of protective coverings 100 for use on the back of a hand, or a number of protective coverings 100 for use on the back of a foot, and/or a combination of both, all contained in a package 152.

[0025] In accordance with at least one aspect of this disclosure, a method for protecting skin against UV exposure can be as follows, removing a plurality of protective coverings 100 from a package 152, removing a removable adhesive cover 116 from an adhesive layer 108 of the protective covering 100, exposing the adhesive layer 108, adhering the protective covering 100 to an area of skin to be exposed to UV light, and removing the protective covering 100 from the skin after completion of UV light exposure.
