(i) BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING(S)
[0012] The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
[0013]
[0014]
[0015]
[0016]

[0018]
(j) DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0019] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
[0020] As best illustrated in
[0021] The cutting board 12 has a pair of lobes 26 each extending upwardly from the top surface 16. Each of the lobes 26 is positioned to extend along opposite sides of the blade slot 14 with respect to each other. Additionally, each of the lobes 26 extends from the back side 24 of the perimeter surface 20 toward the front side 22 of the perimeter surface 20. A plurality of couplers 28 is each coupled to the cutting board 12 thereby facilitating each of the couplers 28 to releasably engage a support panel 30 for mounting the cutting board 12 on the support panel 30. Each of the couplers 28 is positioned on the bottom surface 18 of the cutting board 12 and each of the couplers 28 is aligned with a respective one of four corners 32 of the perimeter surface 20. The support panel 30 may be a table top, a counter top or other type of horizontal support surface that might be found in a kitchen, for example. Each of the couplers 28 may comprise a suction cup or other type of coupler that can engage a planar surface.
[0022] A clamp 34 is coupled to the cutting board 12 thereby facilitating an edge of the support panel 30 to be positioned in the clamp 34. The clamp 34 engages the support panel 30 when the clamp 34 is tightened for securing the cutting board 12 to the support panel 30. The clamp 34 comprises a central member 36 extending between a pair of end members 38, and each of the end members 38 is perpendicularly oriented with the central member 36 such that the clamp 34 has a U-shape. A distal end 40 of a top one of the end members 42 is coupled to the front side 22 of the perimeter surface 20 such that the central member 36 extends downwardly from the cutting board 12. Additionally, a bottom one of the end members 44 extends along a line that is oriented parallel with the bottom surface 18 of the cutting board 12.
[0023] The clamp 34 includes a screw 46 extending through the bottom end member 44. The screw 46 has a plate 48 that is urgeable toward the top end member 42 when the screw 46 is tightened thereby facilitating the support panel 30 to be compressed between the plate 48 and the top end member 42. Conversely, the plate 48 is urgeable away from the top end member 42 when the screw 46 is loosened thereby facilitating the support panel 30 to be removed from between the plate 48 and the top end member 42.
[0024] A blade 50 is provided and the blade 50 is pivotally coupled to the cutting board 12. The blade 50 is urgeable downwardly for cutting a food item 52 positioned on the cutting board 12. The blade 50 is aligned with the blade slot 14 thereby facilitating the blade 50 to pass into the blade slot 14 when the blade 50 is urged downwardly for fully cutting through the food item 52. The blade 50 has a first end 54, a second end 56 and a cutting edge 58 extending between the first end 54 and the second end 56. Furthermore, the blade 50 is elongated between the first end 54 and the second end 56 to a length that is at least equal to the length of the cutting board 12. The second end 56 is positioned between the pair of lobes 26 and a pin 58 extends through each of the lobes 26 and engages the blade 50 such that the blade 50 is pivotally attached to each of the lobes 26. The cutting edge 58 of the blade 50 forms an angle of approximately 105.0 degrees with the top surface 16 of the cutting board 12 with the blade 50 is positioned in an upright position.
[0025] A handle 60 is attached to the blade 50 thereby facilitating the handle 60 to be gripped for moving the blade 50 upwardly and downwardly. The handle 60 is positioned on the first end 54 of the blade 50 having the handle 60 extending along an axis extending between the first end 54 and the second end 56 of the blade 50. The handle 60 has a rounded outer surface 62 such that the handle 60 has a cylindrical shape for enhancing comfort for the user.
[0026] In use, the couplers 28 and the clamp 34 are secured to the support panel 30 and the food item 52, such as a melon, a head of cabbage or any other type of food item 52 that would be difficult to cut with a hand held knife, is positioned on the cutting board 12. The handle 60 is gripped and the blade 50 is urged downwardly to cut the food item 52. In this way the food item 52 is cut in a safe and efficient manner as compared to cutting the food item 52 with a hand held knife. Furthermore, a food item 52 of any size can be cut on the cutting board 12 with the blade 50. In this way the cutting board 12 and the blade 50 can fulfill any cutting needs in a kitchen or a food preparation environment.
