Abstract
A dispensing device for single-use articles is provided. In certain embodiments, the dispensing device comprises a wall-mounted unit or fixture that is capable of holding at least different articles and providing those articles to a user. Packaging devices for use and cooperation with the dispensing device are further provided, and various systems for storing and dispensing articles are provided.
Claims
1. A system for housing and dispensing a plurality of articles, the system comprising: an at least partially sealed outer portion in the shape of a rectangular cube; the rectangular cube comprising a length dimension, a width dimension and a height dimension, wherein the length dimension is greater than the width dimension and the width dimension is greater than the height dimension; an elongate opening to allow for egress of the articles; and wherein the elongate opening is provided in a side of the outer portion that extends in a plane defined by the length dimension and the height dimension.
2. The system of claim 1, wherein the system further comprises a closure member that is operable to selectively seal the elongate opening.
3. The system of claim 2, wherein the closure member comprises enhanced structural rigidity relative to the outer portion.
4. The system of claim 3, wherein the closure member comprises low-density polyethylene.
5. The system of claim 2, wherein the closure member comprises a hinge.
6. The system of claim 1, wherein the outer portion comprises sealed opposing ends.
7. The system of claim 1, wherein the plurality of articles comprises wipes stacked in an overlapping manner.
8. A system for housing and dispensing a plurality of fabric articles, the system comprising: an outer portion in the shape of a rectangular cube; a plurality of fabric articles in a folded and stacked arrangement provided within the outer portion; the outer portion comprising a length dimension, a width dimension and a height dimension, wherein the length dimension is greater than the width dimension and the width dimension is greater than the height dimension; an opening provided through the outer portion to allow for egress of the fabric articles; and wherein the opening is provided in a side of the outer portion that extends in a plane defined by the length dimension and the height dimension.
9. The system of claim 8, wherein the system further comprises a closure member that is operable to selectively seal the opening.
10. The system of claim 9, wherein the closure member comprises enhanced structural rigidity relative to the outer portion.
11. The system of claim 10, wherein the closure member comprises low-density polyethylene.
12. The system of claim 9, wherein the closure member comprises a hinge.
13. The system of claim 8, wherein the outer portion comprises sealed opposing ends.
14. The system of claim 8, wherein the plurality of articles comprises wipes stacked in an overlapping manner.
15. A system for housing and dispensing a plurality of fabric articles, the system comprising: a package comprising an outer portion in the shape of a flexible rectangular cube; a plurality of fabric articles in a folded and stacked arrangement provided within the outer portion, wherein adjacent fabric articles are at least partially overlapping one another; the outer portion comprising a length dimension, a width dimension and a height dimension, wherein the length dimension is greater than the width dimension and the width dimension is greater than the height dimension; an opening provided through the outer portion to allow for egress of the fabric articles; wherein the opening is provided in a side of the outer portion that extends in a plane defined by the length dimension and the height dimension; and a surface-mountable container operable to receive the package and wherein the surface-mountable container comprises a void with an internal volume that is greater than a total volume of the package.
16. The system of claim 15, wherein the system further comprises a closure member that is operable to selectively seal the opening.
17. The system of claim 16, wherein the closure member comprises enhanced structural rigidity relative to the outer portion.
18. The system of claim 17, wherein the closure member comprises low-density polyethylene.
19. The system of claim 16, wherein the closure member comprises a hinge.
20. The system of claim 15, wherein the outer portion comprises sealed opposing ends.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0024] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a container 2 according to one embodiment of the present disclosure. As shown, the container 2 comprises a container for single-use wipes, tissues, napkins, towelettes, toilet seat covers, rags, or similar items. In preferred embodiments, the container 2 comprises and houses single-use items conventionally referred to as “wipes.” As shown, the container 2 comprises a partially sealed outer portion 4 for confining and housing a plurality of wipes. The outer portion 4 is sealed or closed on opposing ends by seams or welds 6. The container 2 is generally referred to herein as a rectangular cube, as a stack of wipes provided inside the container will generally form a rectangular cube. As shown in FIG. 1, however, containers of the present disclosure need not necessarily comprise an exact cube-shape as the edges of the device may form a taper that provides only a generally-rectangular cube.
[0025] The container 2 of FIG. 1 comprises a length L, a width W, and a height (not labelled in FIG. 1, but see H in FIG. 2). An opening 8 is provided. In some embodiments, the opening 8 comprises an elongate opening as shown in FIG. 1. The opening 8 in the sidewall of the container 2 comprises an opening that allows for egress of wipes in a direction that is parallel to a plane in which the length L of the container 2 extends. The container 2 comprises a closure member 10, and the closure member 10 comprises a frame 12 with an aperture corresponding to the aperture 8 of the container 2 and a cover 14. The cover 14 is rotatable relative to the frame 12 via at least one hinge and allows for selective access to and closure of the aperture. In various embodiments, the closure member 10 comprises one or more gaskets or seals between the frame 12 and the cover 14 to maintain cleanliness and preserve moisture within the wipes of the container 2.
[0026] In various embodiments, the outer portion 4 of the container 2 comprises a flexible plastic such as low-density polyethylene, and the closure member 10 comprises a plastic such as a polyethylene. The closure member 10 preferably comprises a device of enhanced structural rigidity relative to the outer portion 4.

[0028] FIGS. 3-4 are perspective views of a dispensing device 20 according to one embodiment of the present disclosure. As shown, the device 20 comprises a toilet tissue holding and dispensing apparatus that is operable to selectively receive and retain a container 2 of the present disclosure. The dispensing device 20 comprises a main body portion 22 and a holding portion in the form of a support member 24, such as a cantilevered arm to support a cylindrical roll of toilet tissue. The device 20 of FIGS. 3-4 is shown as a wall-mounted or wall-mountable device with a cantilevered arm 24 for receiving a roll of toilet tissue or paper towels. It should be recognized, however, that embodiments of the present disclosure are not limited to this particular arrangement. It is contemplated that containers such as the container 2 shown in FIGS. 1-2 are provided in combination with wall-mounted tissue holders of various different types and arrangements including, but not limited to those with compression-cylinders, hinged arms, etc. and are also contemplated as being provided in stand-alone type holders that are not mounted to a surface.
[0029] As shown in FIGS. 3-4, a container for disposable wipes is provided within an internal volume of the main body portion 22 of the device 20. The container and associated wipes are provided within the device 20 and are accessible from a lower portion thereof. Specifically, the cover 14 of the container 2 is provided such that it is accessible to a user and may be selectively opened to access stored contents. In certain embodiments, a lip or extension is provided on the cover 14 to allow for easy opening of the cover 14. Substantially all of the volume of the container 2 is disposed within the device 20 to create a clean and aesthetically pleasing appearance. Additionally, the larger length and width dimensions of the container 2 are provided parallel to a vertical surface (at least in embodiments wherein the device 20 comprises a wall-mounted device), and the height dimension of the container extends away from the wall such that a minimal amount of space is occupied.
[0030] FIGS. 5-6 are perspective views of the embodiment of FIGS. 3-4. As shown in FIGS. 5-6, a conventional and known roll of toilet tissue 30 is provided on the dispensing device 20. Additionally, a container 2 according to embodiments of the present disclosure is provided within the main body portion of the dispensing device 20. As shown in FIG. 5, the contents of the container are accessible from a bottom portion thereof wherein the cover member 14 is provided in an open position. In FIG. 6, the cover 14 is closed, providing a neat and aesthetically pleasing overall appearance. [0031] FIG. 7A is a cross-sectional view of a stack 32 of single-use wipes 50 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The stack 32 comprises a plurality of individual wipes 50. The stack 32 is shown without a container or dispensing device for illustrative purposes. The stack 32 has a first end 40 and a second end 42. In an assembled state, the first end 40 is located near a frame 12 of the dispensing device 20, such that an exposed wipe 44 is accessible through the frame 12.
[0032] FIG. 7B is a cross-sectional view of a container 2 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, and wherein a plurality of wipes 50 are provided within the container 2. The container 2 and stacked single use wipes 50 are shown inside of a dispensing device 20. The wipes 50 are folded and stacked vertically in an overlapping manner. Accordingly, when a wipe 50 is removed, an adjacent wipe 50 is pulled through the frame 12 along with it, partially exposing the next wipe 50 (see FIG. 5). This configuration allows users to easily remove wipes 50 from the container 2. It will be appreciated that the particular fold pattern shown in FIG. 7 is not necessary to achieve the pull-through design, which exposes sequential wipes.
[0033] FIG. 7C is an enlarged view of the stacked wipes shown in FIGS. 7A and 7B. Each individual wipe 50 comprises two folds 48, 52 and the plurality of wipes are provided in series as shown in FIGS. 7A and 7C. A wipe 50 at the first end 40 is only in contact with a top wipe, and the wipe at the second end 42 is only in contact with a bottom wipe. The first fold 48 is between a first part 54 and a second part 56, and the second fold 52 is between the second part 56 and the third part 58. The first part 54 and the third part 58 of each wipe 50 overlap at an overlap section 46. The first part 54 and the third part 58 each make up about thirty percent of the cross-sectional length, and the second part makes up about forty percent of the cross-sectional length of a wipe 50. The overlap section 46 makes up about ten to twenty percent of the cross-sectional length of each wipe 50.
[0034] FIG. 8 is a partially-exploded perspective view of a dispensing device 20 showing the closure member 10 detached from the dispensing device 20 according to various embodiments of the present disclosure. In FIG. 8, the frame 12 of closure member 10 comprises a lip portion 34, which is set in from the edge of the frame 12 and substantially surrounds a perimeter of the frame 12. The lip portion 34 comprises one or more slots 36, which mate with a tab 38 on the dispensing device 20. In alternative embodiments, the slots 36 and tabs 38 are inverted such that a female portion is provided on the dispensing device 20 and the frame 12 comprises a male projection. The lip portion 34 is sized to fit tightly within the dispensing side of the dispensing device 20. The closure member 10 can be pressed or snap-fit into the dispensing device 20, and the tabs 38 fit into the slots 36, holding the cover 14, and the container 2 inside the dispensing device 20. A bending force can be applied to the closure member 10 to remove an empty container 2 from the dispensing device 20. The closure member 10 of FIG. 8 is shown without a corresponding container 2. In some embodiments, and as shown in FIG. 1, a container 2 and a closure member 10 comprises a co-formed or joined element. In alternative embodiments, the container 2 and closure member 10 comprise separate components.
[0035] In various embodiments, the cover member 14 of the closure member 10 comprises at least one magnet, and at least one of the frame 12 and the dispensing device comprises a magnet of opposite polarity to create a closing force upon the cover member 14, at least when the container 2 is provided within the dispensing device 20. In various embodiments, the cover member 14 is the only cover member for wipes contained within a system, and the dispensing device 20 comprises an open bottom portion. In alternative embodiments, the dispensing device 20 comprises a rotatable closure member of its own. This keeps the wipes 32 from being exposed to air, so the wipes 32 are hygienically sealed and can maintain the desired level of moisture.
