Abstract
A cooking grate for a domestic gas cooking appliance having a top sheet is provided. The cooking grate includes a cooking utensil support region; and a gas transfer portion extending from the cooking utensil support region and having a gas transfer chamber, a plurality of gas outlets extending from the gas transfer chamber to a burn region outside of the gas transfer portion, and a gas inlet extending from an area outside of the gas transfer portion to the gas transfer chamber.
Claims
1. A cooking grate for a domestic gas cooking appliance having a top sheet, the cooking grate comprising: a cooking utensil support region; and a gas transfer portion extending from the cooking utensil support region and having a gas transfer chamber, a plurality of gas outlets extending from the gas transfer chamber to a burn region outside of the gas transfer portion, and a gas inlet extending from an area outside of the gas transfer portion to the gas transfer chamber.
2. The cooking grate of claim 1, wherein an uppermost surface of the gas transfer portion is located on in a different plane that an upper most surface of the cooking utensil support region.
3. The cooking grate of claim 2, wherein the uppermost surface of the gas transfer portion is vertically below the upper most surface of the cooking utensil support region.
4. The cooking grate of claim 1, further comprising a second cooking utensil support region; and a second gas transfer portion extending from the second cooking utensil support region and having a second gas transfer chamber, a plurality of second gas outlets extending from the second gas transfer chamber to a burn region outside of the second gas transfer portion, and a second gas inlet extending from an area outside of the gas second transfer portion to the second gas transfer chamber.
5. The cooking grate of claim 1, wherein the gas inlet is formed in an end of the gas transfer portion.
6. The cooking grate of claim 1, wherein the gas transfer chamber is open to above the gas transfer chamber.
7. The cooking grate of claim 5, wherein the gas transfer portion is configured to receive a burner cap such that the burner cap covers from above the gas transfer chamber.
8. The cooking grate of claim 1, further comprising a foot configured to contact the top sheet of the domestic gas cooking appliance and to support the cooking utensil support region.
9. The cooking grate of claim 8, wherein the foot extends from the gas transfer portion to the top sheet.
10. A gas burner assembly for a domestic gas cooking appliance having a top sheet, the gas burner assembly comprising: a cooking grate having a cooking utensil support region, and a gas transfer portion extending from the cooking utensil support region and having a gas transfer chamber, a plurality of gas outlets extending from the gas transfer chamber to a burn region outside of the gas transfer portion, and a gas inlet extending from an area outside of the gas transfer portion to the gas transfer chamber; and a gas venturi member configured to extend through an opening in the top sheet, the gas venturi member having a gas inlet that is configured to receive gas from a gas supply, a gas outlet that fluidly aligns with the gas inlet of the gas transfer portion, and a central passageway that is fluidly between the gas inlet of the gas venturi member and the gas outlet of the gas venturi member.
11. The gas burner assembly of claim 10, further comprising a burner cap that rests on the gas transfer portion and forms a top of the gas transfer chamber.
12. The gas burner assembly of claim 11, wherein the gas venturi member has an upper opening above the gas outlet, the upper opening being surrounded by a rim, and the burner cap rests on the rim to close the upper opening.
13. The gas burner assembly of claim 10, wherein the gas venturi member has a plurality of burner holes located around a perimeter of the gas venturi member, the burner holes fluidly connecting the central passageway to a region outside of the gas venturi member and outside of the gas transfer portion.
14. The gas burner assembly of claim 10, wherein an uppermost surface of the gas transfer portion is vertically below an upper most surface of the cooking utensil support region.
15. The gas burner assembly of claim 10, comprising four of the gas transfer portions; and a burner cap that rests on the four gas transfer portions, wherein the burner cap forms tops of the four gas transfer chambers.
16. The gas burner assembly of claim 15, wherein the gas venturi member has four of the gas outlets, each of the gas outlets fluidly aligning with the gas inlet of one of the four gas transfer portions, and the four gas transfer portions are arranged around the gas venturi member.
17. A domestic gas cooking appliance, comprising: a main cabinet; a top sheet forming an upper surface of the main cabinet; a cooking grate positioned above the top sheet, the cooking grate having a cooking utensil support region configured to support a cooking utensil, a gas transfer portion extending from the cooking utensil support region and having a gas transfer chamber, a plurality of gas outlets extending from the gas transfer chamber to a burn region outside of the gas transfer portion, and a gas inlet extending from an area outside of the gas transfer portion to the gas transfer chamber; and a gas venturi member extending through an opening in the top sheet, the gas venturi member having a gas inlet that is configured to receive gas from a gas supply, a gas outlet that fluidly aligns with the gas inlet of the gas transfer portion, and a central passageway that is fluidly between the gas inlet of the gas venturi member and the gas outlet of the gas venturi member.
18. The domestic gas cooking appliance of claim 17, further comprising a burner cap that rests on the gas transfer portion and forms a top of the gas transfer chamber.

The domestic gas cooking appliance of claim 17, wherein the gas venturi member has a plurality of burner holes located around a perimeter of the gas venturi member, the burner holes fluidly connecting the central passageway to a region outside of the gas venturi member and outside of the gas transfer portion.
20. The domestic gas cooking appliance of claim 17, wherein an uppermost surface of the gas transfer portion is vertically below an upper most surface of the cooking utensil support region.
