26. The combined primary label and secondary label of claim 25, wherein a front portion of the central-perforated portion of the second piece of thermal paper includes other thermally activated indicia associated with the secondary label of the combined primary label and secondary label.
27. A combined label, comprising: a primary label defined within a first paper by a first perforation made within the first paper; a secondary label defined within a second paper by a die cut made within the second paper; a first release coating disposed on a backside of the first paper that corresponds to the primary label; and an adhesive coating disposed on the backside of the first paper that corresponds to the primary label and that corresponds to other areas of the first paper that are not associated with the primary label; wherein the primary label and the secondary label are aligned, and the backside of the first paper is attached to a back portion of the second paper as the combined label through the adhesive coating of the first paper; wherein the primary label and the secondary label are removed through the first perforation and the die cut together, and the secondary label peeled away from the primary label to provide the secondary label having the adhesive coating on the corresponding back portion of the secondary label that was transferred from the corresponding backside of the primary label during separation to the secondary label.
28. The combined label of claim 27, wherein the adhesive layer is disposed on top of the first release coating.
29. The combined label of claim 28, wherein the backside corresponding to the other areas of the first paper is devoid of any of the first release coating.
30. The combined label of claim 27, wherein the second paper further comprises a framed portion that surrounds the second label.
31. The combined label of claim 30, wherein the back portion that corresponds to the framed portion comprises a second release coating disposed on that back portion.
32. The combined label of claim 31, wherein the first release coating and the second release coating are one of: a same type of release coating or different types of release coatings.
33. The combined label of claim 27, wherein the first label and the second label are one of: a same size or the first label is larger in size than the second label.
34. A combined label, comprising: a first thermal paper having a backside; a second thermal paper having a back portion; an adhesive layer deposited on the backside of the first thermal paper; wherein the backside of the first thermal paper is affixed to the back portion of the second thermal paper as the combined label via the adhesive layer, and wherein before joining the first thermal paper and the second thermal paper, the back portion of the second thermal paper is devoid of any adhesive; wherein a first label is die cut into the first thermal paper and is aligned with a second label that is die cut into the second thermal paper; wherein the first label and the second label are separated together from the first thermal paper and the second thermal paper, and the second label is peeled away from the first label with a portion of the adhesive layer that was deposited on the backside corresponding to the first label transferred to the back portion corresponding to the second label.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0014] Referring to
[0015] As shown in
[0016] As shown in
[0017] Referring to
[0018] During use of the combined mailing label and return label 30, a mailing address 33 is printed on the mailing address side 32, and a return address 35 is printed on the return address side 34, as shown in
[0019] As shown in
[0020] It should be apparent that a combined mailing label and return label is provided using two pieces of one-sided thermal paper material which are joined together with a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive therebetween. One piece of thermal paper material has a perforation and the other piece of thermal paper material has a corresponding die cut in registration with the perforation such that a mailing label (with a return label on its back) can be peeled away and applied to a mailing package. The perforation allows the recipient of the mailing package to manipulate and remove the return label from the mailing package, and thereby to expose the return address on the return address side of the return label. The removed return label can then be subsequently peeled away from a release coating material and applied to a return package.
[0021] It should also be apparent that adhesive for the mailing and adhesive for the return label are from the same layer of adhesive which was applied to make the combined mailing label and return label. Accordingly, only one layer of adhesive is needed to manufacture the combined mailing label and return label.
[0022] It should also be apparent that the combined mailing label and return label is linerless in that there is no release liner between two pieces of thermal paper material. Since no release liner is needed, the result is less cost to manufacture the combined mailing label and return label. Also, since no release liner is needed, the combined mailing label and return label can be manufactured using simpler equipment.
[0023] Although the above description describes a rectangular-shaped mailing label 40 and a rectangular shaped return label 50 (
[0024] Also, although the above description describes first and second pieces of thermal paper being used to make a combined label, it is conceivable that first and second pieces of non-thermal paper may be used to make a combined label.
[0025] Further, although the above description describes a combined label used in an application as a mailing label and a return label, it is conceivable that the combined label may used in other types applications such as any type of application where a primary label and a secondary label are needed.
[0026] While the present invention has been illustrated by the description of example processes and system components, and while the various processes and components have been described in detail, applicant does not intend to restrict or in any limit the scope of the appended claims to such detail. Additional modifications will also readily appear to those skilled in the art. The invention in its broadest aspects is therefore not limited to the specific details, implementations, or illustrative examples shown and described. Accordingly, departures may be made from such details without departing from the spirit or scope of applicant's general inventive concept.
