9. A medical product package comprising: a) a case for receiving a medical product, said cap having an open end; b) a cap for sealing said open end of said case; c) a hinge having one end connected to the cap and a second end connected to said case; d) an indentation in the outer surface of said cap, the indentation having a reduced outer dimension compared to the rest of the outer surface in which it is formed; e) an indentation in the outer surface of said case, the indentation having a reduced outer dimension compared to the rest of the outer surface in which it is formed, said indentations in said cap and said case being adjacent to each other when the cap is in a filly closed position; and f) a first use indication label affixed to the cap and covering the indentation in said cap and wherein said indentation in said case is visible.
10. The medical product package of claim 8 wherein a portion of said first use indication label is folded under said cap.
11. The medical package of claim 9 comprising: a) a case having a tubular wall which is closed at one end and open at the other end, said other end of the tubular wall defining a top land and an outer surface adjacent the top land, said outer surface of the tubular wall having an outer dimension; b) a cap having a top wall and a side wall, said side wall defining a bottom land and an outer surface adjacent the bottom land, said outer surface of the side wall having an outer dimension that matches the outer dimension of the tubular wall; c) a hinge having one end connected to the cap and a second end connected to said other end of the tubular wall, the hinge permitting selectable movement of the cap between an open position, wherein access is provided to the open end of the tubular wall, and a closed position, wherein the cap prevents access to the open end of the tubular wall, the bottom land of the closed cap together with the top land of the case defining a junction line where the cap and case are adjacent one another when the cap is closed; d) an indentation in the outer surface of said cap, the indentation having a reduced outer dimension compared to the rest of the outer surface in which it is formed; and e) an indentation in the outer surface of said case, the indentation having a reduced outer dimension compared to the rest of the outer surface in which it is formed, said indentations in said cap and said case being adjacent to each other when the cap is in a filly closed position.
12. A medical product assembly comprising; a) a package, said package including a case for receiving a medical product, said case having an open end, a cap for sealing said open end of said case, a hinge having one end connected to the cap and a second end connected to said case, an indentation in the outer surface of said cap, the indentation having a reduced outer dimension compared to the rest of the outer surface in which it is formed, an indentation in the outer surface of said case, the indentation having a reduced outer dimension compared to the rest of the outer surface in which it is formed, said indentations in said cap and said case being adjacent to each other when the cap is in a filly closed position; and a first use indication label affixed to the cap and case that spans both the indentation in the cap and the indentation in the case. b) a medical device contained within said package, said medical product having a distal end that extends beyond said open end of said case and positioned within the case such that said first use indication label contacts said distal end of said medical device when the cap is moved from an open position to re-closed position.
13. The medical product assembly of claim 12 wherein said medical device is positioned within said case such that a lower portion of said first use indication label folds upon contact with said distal end of said medical device.
14. The medical product assembly of assembly of claim 12 wherein said medical device is positioned within said case such that a lower portion of said first use indication label folds upon contact with said distal end of said medical device without preventing closure of said case with said cap.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS
[0025] The present disclosure is directed to packages for medical products or devices such as intermittent urinary catheters. Such a package is shown generally at in
[0026] The case is preferably molded from a suitable plastic material, such as polypropylene, although other materials could be used. The case includes a hollow tubular wall 26. Where the package is for housing a catheter or other elongated product, the tubular wall 26 terminates at an end wall 28 that closes the bottom of the tubular wall. The interior surface of the tubular wall may be generally cylindrical. The exterior surface of the tubular wall 26 may have either a cylindrical or rectangular cross-sectional shape or the cross-section could be otherwise. As shown in
[0027] Cap 14 is hinged to the case 12 by hinge 42 and is selectively movable by a user between a closed position and an open position.
[0028] The hinge 42 as shown is preferably a living hinge of the butterfly type, but other hinge arrangements could be used. The hinge connects to the collar 36 and the cap 14 to permit selectable movement of the cap between open and closed positions.
[0029] As shown in
[0030] As will be appreciated from
[0031] As shown in
[0032] In one embodiment, the size or area of the indentations 72 and 74 may be the same. Alternatively, lower indentation 74 may be greater in size (height, area) than the top indentation 72. This results in a greater surface area for the label 16 to adhere on the cap 14, rather than on the case 12, and further ensures that the label will remain with the cap 14 when opened (rather than remaining with the case 12).
[0033] As best seen in
[0034] Packages of the type described herein are particularly useful for housing catheters such as intermittent urinary catheters. Turning briefly to
[0035] After use of the catheter 20, it is not uncommon for users to return the used catheter 20 to its package for disposal of the catheter and the package. Faced with a package that contains a catheter, the user would like to know whether the package has been previously opened (whether or not used).
