Hair Extension Bar comb Tool and Hair Extension Bag with Interior Comb Hanger

Abstract

A hair extension bar comb retains hair for a coloration or treatment process on an elongated base. In one embodiment, first and second comb teeth rows are respectively mounted in parallel on corresponding laterally spaced apart parallel side regions of the base (typically on a top flat base surface). In use, some teeth of at least one comb teeth row captures extension hair therein. A coloration/treatment process is engaged on captured extension hair in the lateral space between the first and the second comb teeth rows. A floor or table stand may be provided with a mounting coupler on the bottom of the base. A hair extension storage bag is elongated, defining a vertical bag cavity with an upper edge lip closure system. A horizontal bar with a single comb teeth row is mounted in the upper region of the bag cavity. Comb teeth capture extension hair which falls down into the vertical bag cavity. A vertical closure system is also included.

Claims

1. A hair extension bar comb adapted to retain a hair extension thereon and adapted to be removably mounted to a stand, the hair extension bar comb comprising: an elongated base having laterally spaced apart generally parallel side regions; a first comb teeth row mounted on one side region of said laterally spaced apart parallel side regions and a second comb teeth row mounted on the other side region, each comb teeth row having a multiplicity of teeth therein, at least a portion of said multiplicity of teeth in one of said first and second comb teeth rows adapted to capture therebetween extension hair from said hair extension; and a mounting coupler adapted to removably attach the base to said stand.

The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 1 wherein said elongated base has a cross-sectional shape from one of the group of cross-sectional shapes including a quadrilateral cross-sectional shape, a trapezoidal cross-sectional shape, an isosceles trapezoidal cross-sectional shape, a circular cross-sectional shape, a hemispherical cross-sectional shape, an elliptical cross-sectional shape, and a hemispherical elliptic cross-sectional shape.

The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 1 wherein said elongated base has either a substantially flat top surface leading to depending sloped sides, said first and second comb teeth rows being laterally spaced apart on said top surface substantially near said depending sloped sides, said sloped sides adapted to carry extension hair of said hair extension when said hair extension hair is captured by said portion of said comb teeth.

4. The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 3 wherein said elongated base has a quadrilateral cross-sectional shape, the quadrilateral base forming said sloped sides and said mounting coupler disposed on a lower surface of said quadrilateral base.

5. The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 4 wherein said substantially flat top surface has a working region of between substantially 0.5 inches and substantially 4.0 inches.

6. The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 5 wherein said sloped sides define a sloped working region of between substantially 0.5 inches and substantially 4.0 inches.

7. A hair extension bar comb adapted to retain a hair extension thereon for a coloration process by a stylist comprising: an elongated base having laterally spaced apart first and second top side regions; and a first comb teeth row mounted on said first top side region and a second first comb teeth row mounted on said second top side region, said first and second comb teeth rows being laterally spaced apart and mounted in parallel to each other on said elongated base, each comb teeth row defined by a plurality aligned of teeth, at least a portion of said aligned teeth in either said first comb teeth row, or said second comb teeth row or both said first and said second comb teeth rows adapted to capture extension hair from said hair extension to enable said coloration process on captured extension hair in the lateral space between said first and said second comb teeth rows and between said laterally spaced apart first and second top side regions.

The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 7 wherein said elongated base has a cross-sectional shape from one of the group of cross-sectional shapes including a quadrilateral cross-sectional shape, a trapezoidal cross-sectional shape, an isosceles trapezoidal cross-sectional shape, a circular cross-sectional shape, a hemispherical cross-sectional shape, an elliptical cross-sectional shape, and a hemispherical elliptic cross-sectional shape.

9. The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 7 wherein said elongated base has either a substantially flat top surface leading to depending sloped sides, said first and second comb teeth rows being laterally spaced apart on said top surface substantially near said depending sloped sides, said sloped sides adapted to carry extension hair of said hair extension when said hair extension hair is captured by said portion of said comb teeth; one of said slope sides enabling said coloration process on captured extension hair thereon.

10. The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 9 wherein said elongated base has a quadrilateral cross-sectional shape, the quadrilateral base forming said sloped sides and said mounting coupler disposed on a lower surface of said quadrilateral base.

11. The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 10 wherein said substantially flat top surface has a working region of between substantially 0.5 inches and substantially 4.0 inches.

12. The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 11 wherein said sloped sides define a sloped working region of between substantially 0.5 inches and substantially 4.0 inches.

13. A storage bag for hair extension adapted to hold one or more hair extensions therein comprising: an elongated bag having an upper edge lip and an upper closure system substantially along said upper edge lip, said elongated bag defining an elongated vertical bag cavity beneath said upper edge lip; a horizontally mounted bar near said upper edge lip; a substantially horizontal comb teeth row on said horizontal bar, said horizontal comb teeth row defined by a plurality aligned of teeth either horizontally extending from said horizontal bar or at an acute angle with respect to said vertical bag cavity, at least a portion of said aligned teeth capturing said one hair extension therein such that extension hair from said hair extension falls down into said vertical bag cavity for storage therein.

The storage bag for hair extension as claimed in claim 13 wherein said elongated bag has a front side and a back side, said storage bag including a vertical closure system disposed on said front side of said bag permitting placement of said extension hair through said vertical closure system and into said vertical bag cavity.

The storage bag for hair extension as claimed in claim 13 wherein said upper closure system is a tongue and groove closure system, an interlocking tongue and groove closure system, a snap closure system, a button and button hole closure system, a bar and coacting slot closure system, a zipper closure system, or a hook and loop cloth closure system.

The storage bag for hair extension as claimed in claim 14 wherein said vertical closure system is a tongue and groove closure system, an interlocking tongue and groove closure system, a snap closure system, a button and button hole closure system, a bar and coacting slot closure system, a zipper closure system, or a hook and loop cloth closure system.

17. A hair extension bar comb adapted to retain a hair extension thereon for a coloration process and adapted to be removably mounted to a stand, the hair extension bar comb comprising: an elongated base having laterally spaced apart generally parallel side regions; a comb teeth row mounted on one side region of said laterally spaced apart parallel side regions having a multiplicity of teeth therein, at least a portion of said multiplicity of teeth adapted to capture therein extension hair from said hair extension; a mounting coupler adapted to removably attach the base to said stand; said elongated base having a cross-sectional shape from one of the group of cross-sectional shapes including a quadrilateral cross-sectional shape, a trapezoidal cross-sectional shape, an isosceles trapezoidal cross-sectional shape, a circular cross-sectional shape, a hemispherical cross-sectional shape, an elliptical cross-sectional shape, and a hemispherical elliptic cross-sectional shape; and, said elongated base defining a working region on a top surface, said working region including said laterally spaced apart generally parallel side regions, said top surface adapted to support said extension hair of said hair extension during said coloration process.

18. The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 17 wherein said top surface working region has a lateral span of between substantially 0.5 inches and substantially 4.0 inches.

19. The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 17 wherein said elongated base has a quadrilateral cross-sectional shape, the quadrilateral base having opposing sloped sides and said mounting coupler disposed on a lower surface of said quadrilateral base.

20. The hair extension bar comb as claimed in claim 17 wherein said top surface working region is a substantially flat top surface wherein said top surface working region has a lateral span of between substantially 0.5 inches and substantially 4.0 inches.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS

[0018] FIG. 1 diagrammatically illustrates the hair extension bar comb tool 10. Hair extension bar 11 of comb tool 10 (hair extension bar comb tool 10) has a generally planar bottom surface 24 and a parallel generally planar top surface 26. Hair extension bar 11 is sometimes referred to as platform 11. Sloped sides 12, 14 of bar/platform 11 depend from planar top surface 26 at an obtuse angle 16a. This angle is approximately 60. Two sets of comb teeth 20, 22 extend upward from upper surface 26 of the platform in a generally vertical manner. The lateral span 16c of surface 26 is less than the lateral span 16b of the lower surface of the comb tool 10. In one embodiment, tool 10 is mounted on a stand (FIG. 5) and is substantially horizontal while in use. However, hair extension bar comb is designed to be removed from the stand (FIG. 5) at times to facilitate washing and drying and transporting of the comb-mounted hair extension.

[0019] In general, the comb teeth extend the length of bar/platform 11. In FIG. 1, most of the comb teeth 20, 22 are represented by a series of dots. FIG. 5 shows that the lower surface 24 of bar/platform 11 includes a coupler mechanism which coacts with the stem extending upward from either a floor mount, a table mount or a mannequin head mount or stand. The bar coupler 50 extending below lower surface 24 can be configured such that it fits on a stand for a mannequin head. Rather than a floor/table stand, the bottom of the stand stem 51 or 53 may include a clamp-down grip such that the hair extension bar comb tool is mounted on a table top or shelf.

[0020] One embodiment of the comb tool invention has a hair extension bar/platform 11 about 18-24 inches long. The bar or platform has a top planar surface of about 2 inches and a bottom or lower planar surface of about 3 inches. Comb teeth 20, 22 extend substantially vertically above top surface 26 about 1 inch.

[0021] The hair extension bar comb 10 is a hair extension tool that allows the stylist to organize placement, color and cut and style the hair extensions while detached and before re-attachment to the client's head. The hair extension bar comb is a stylist's assistant without hands. There are many times that the hair extensions need to have a refresh tone applied or need to be re-colored or glossed or treated and then blow dried after removal and before reinstallation on the client's head. This refresh/re-color and blow dry has become challenging for the stylist and often requires two hands for the hair extension and a third hand for the touch-up or colorization brush and/or the blow drier. The hair extension bar comb cuts refresh/re-colorization application time in half and produces an organized, clean system to keep the hair in prime condition, that is, a de-tangled condition and gives the stylist the freedom of creativity with color without a mess to clean up.

[0022] The hair extension bar comb acts as a hair extension assistant without hands. There are six challenges in the hair extension industry and this hair extension bar comb system provides a unique, inventive solution. Function: (a) color, (b) rinse, (c) blow dry, (d) style, (e) organize the hair extension for re-placement and re-installation on the client's head; and (f) storage of the hair extension for future use and for compact organization of the finished hair extension product for the consumer or the stylist.

[0023] The hair extension bar comb is an extension system with five unique attachments that attach to a customized base that allows the stylist to organize placement, color, cut and style while the hair extension is detached from the client's head.

[0024] As a hair extension artist, there are many times the challenge has presented itself where the client's extension hair will need a refresh or tone not to mention recolor or a treatment. This is typically done during removal of the hair extension because the extension hair requires different treatment than the client's natural hair and usually requires two hands on stylist to complete. Many times, with tape-in and keratin bond applications, there is left over hair and that hair will go unused due to color matching for other clients. This left over hair represents wasted money for the stylist and the client. With the hair extension bar comb and the hair extension storage bag, this is no longer be an issue. The stylist will be able to use unused hair on a variety of people because they will now have the freedom to color the leftover hair to match their next client.

[0025] The hair extension bar comb components are generally classified as follows: a customized base attachment that fits onto a mannequin head stand. One 22-inch double sided comb-like bar (bar 11 with comb teeth rows 20, 22, (FIG. 1)) with a 1-inch flat center work region 27 on top surface 26. As shown in FIG. 5, hair extension bar comb 10 will attach to base attachment. A second configuration of the hair extension bar comb is a 14-inch double sided comb-like bar (bar 11 with comb teeth rows 20, 22, (FIG. 1)) with a 1-inch flat center work region 27. The bar 11 that attaches to a base and stem attachment (FIG. 5). A third configuration is a 10-inch double sided comb-like bar with a 1-inch flat work center region 27. A fourth configuration is a collapsible placement tool which consists of 18-inch full circular comb, 22 inch full circular comb, a 11 inch and 9 inch half-moon comb. These will all connect and collapse for storage. A wig/toupee attachment with a 22 inch circular comb and a solid dome center for stability is another configuration.

[0026] As shown in FIG. 1, hair extension bar comb tool 10 has a comb bar or base 11 with two rows of comb teeth 20, 22 spaced apart and defining a working region 27 on a top surface 26 of the bar 11. A short lateral working region 25 defines the periphery of the top surface 26 between comb row 22 and the edge defining top surface 26 and sloped surface 14. In use, the density of the hair falling from hair extension weft carrier 44 is too dense to show in the line drawings of this disclosure. In FIG. 4, the extension hair is placed in both rows of comb teeth 20, 22, however the extension hair may be placed in either comb teeth row 20 or comb teeth row 22. Sometimes, pins are needed to affix hair extension weft carrier 44 to surface 26.

[0028] The flat working region 27 is needed to color (or re-color) or otherwise treat the extension hair near the hair extension weft. A hair extension weft is generally defined as: Machine wefted or machine weft hair extensions refer to products which have been sewn or wefted to create the bundle of extensions. Loose or bulk hair is fed through a triple-head sewing machine to add a reinforced stitch near the top (root) of the individual strands. [0029] Stylists may or may not distinguish machine-made hair extension wefts with skin injection hair wefts. However, all these hair extension wefts need to be color-matched to the client's desired hair style. Hence, the need for coloring or re-coloring close to the hair extension carrier, whether that carrier is polyurethane or keratin or a weft woven carrier.

[0030] Therefore, the hair extension bar comb provides a flat surface at work region 27 such that the stylist can carefully apply color or other treatment to the extension hair near and adjacent the weft or extension carrier. Further, if the weft or carrier is not pinned down to surface 26, the stylist can pull the weft or carrier to closer one comb row compared to the other comb row. In this manner the color application is uniformly applied over the length of the extension hair by simple pulling left action by the stylist or pulling right actions by the stylist. In FIG. 4, the dots represent further hairs from weft or carrier 44.

[0031] Sloped working region 14 and, to some extent, flat lateral side region 25, permits the stylist to better and more easily apply color or treatment to the remaining length of extension hair falling from the hair extension bar comb. The obtuse angle 16a (FIG. 1) greatly improves the application of color or other treatments. Further, extension hair falling off beyond the lower edge of slope 14 can be easily colored or treated by the stylist using one hand behind the falling hair and the other hand holding the color brush. In this sense, the hair extension bar comb mimics the hair falling off the client's head. In FIG. 4, hairs 44a are shown only to illustrate that the stylist can flatten out the hairs falling over slope 14 to achieve nearly a one-on-one hair treatment. Of course, slope 12 acts in the same manner as slope 14.

[0032] It should be noted that the hair extension weft need not be passed through both comb rows 20, 22. Instead, all the extension hairs from the hair weft can be placed through a single comb row 20 for color or other treatment.

[0033] In addition to color treatments, the hair extension bar comb is used to wash the mounted hair extension hair in a sink or tub. The stylist de-couples the hair extension bar comb from the stand (see stand in FIG. 5) and places the hair extension bar comb over a corner of the sink or tub. The extension hair then falls into the sink and the stylist washes the extension hair in the sink. To dry the extension hair, the stylist may re-mount the hair extension bar comb onto the stand (or clamp the stand stem on a table or shelf) and blow dry the hair. One hand holds the hair blower while the other hand holds open the extension hair. Further the stylist can comb-out the hair extension mounted on the hair extension bar comb without difficulty.

[0034] Some hair colorization uses portions of the hair place atop wax paper. With the hair extension bar comb, the wax paper is placed on slope 12, 14, a small segment or strand of hair is drawn over the paper and the stylist colors the segmented hair thereon.

Bottom 24 of hair extension bar comb 10 has a mounting coupler 50 that mates with a complementary top stem coupler unit 51. Height adjustment control 52 is a rotation-type grip lock which can be rotated to permit the stylist to raise or lower the hair extension bar comb. Stem segments slide within each other. A lower stem 55 is movably mounted beneath stem segment 53 with a second rotation-type height adjustment control 54. Tripod legs 56 illustrate one of the many stable floor stands that may be used with the hair extension bar comb.

However the absence of slope 31 (dashed lines) may reduce the efficiency of the coloring task of the stylist because the stylist needs to pull out the hair away from the side 30. As for circular or partly elliptical cross-sectional shape 30 of the hair extension bar comb in FIG. 3, if the upper circumference (above mid-line 33) of the hair extension bar comb defines a reasonably large work region 27a to capture the hair weft braid or the weft carrier, then the upper hemisphere of the hair extension bar comb in FIG. 3 may work reasonably efficiently. The circumferential distance 27a between comb rows 20, 22 should be adequately large to capture the hair weft braid or the weft carrier 40 therebetween. Slope 29a may be adequate to permit the stylist to apply color or treatment to extension hair near, but not adjacent the hair weft braid or weft carrier. A hemispherical shape may also be used if FIG. 3 is bi-sected at mid-line 33.

[0038] The lower surface 24 of hair extension bar comb 10 need not be parallel to upper surface 26. Although there is a benefit associated with a flat lower surface 24 when the stylist washes the hair extension mounts on bar/platform 11 and when the stylist carries the bar 11, the surface 24 could be shaped in any form or manner.

[0039] The hair extension bar comb can be made out of any durable material. The double set of comb teeth are generally perpendicular to the upper flat surface 26 of the bar 11. The bar tool has at its midpoint on the lower parallel flat surface a coupling joint 50 which cooperates with the downward extending stem 51.

[0040] As indicated above, the hair extension bar comb has an elongated base 11, of various cross-sectional shapes (quadrilateral, a trapezoidal, isosceles trapezoidal, circular, hemispherical elliptical and hemispherical elliptic; see FIGS. 1-3) wherein two comb teeth rows, in parallel with each other, capture extension hair from a hair extension on at least a portion of one of the comb teeth (FIG. 4). As discussed, all extension hair may be passed and captured by one portion of one comb teeth row (FIG. 4 shows two-way hair capture, but one-way hair capture operates the same). A flat top surface is helpful, but gentle curved surfaces (FIG. 3), with sufficient top working region 27a, may also provide similar operational benefits discussed herein. The substantially flat top surface optimally has a lateral working region span of between about 0.5 inches and 4.0 inches, and typically about 1.5 inches. Sloped sides are operationally helpful and optimally provide a sloped working region of between about 0.5 inches and about 4.0 inches, and typically about 1.0-1.5 inches. The objective achieved by the parallel, spaced apart comb teeth rows is to provide a coloration process platform, that is working region 27, therebetween. Additionally, the sloped working region 12, 14 provides an additional coloration process platform.

[0041] FIGS. 6 and 7 diagrammatically illustrate a storage bag for hair extensions. These figures are discussed concurrently herein. The storage bag 130 for the hair extension 136 shows that extension hair falls down into the bag 130 from an interior comb hanger 132 and into a vertical bag cavity 134 (which may be 24-28 inches in depth). Storage bag 130 has a generally transparent front vertical panel, with a vertical closure system 150, 153, preferably a hook and loop, male and female cloth closure system. Alternatively, a tongue and groove vertical closure system 150, 153 may be used, similar to the ZIP-LOK closure system. A zipper closure 150, 152 may also be used.

[0042] FIGS. 6 and 7 show storage bag 130 with an interior comb hanger 132. Hair extensions 136 are shown extending into the inboard or interior cavity 134. Near the top edge of bag 130, a substantially horizontal comb hanger 132 is mounted on the inside surface of bag 130. Comb hanger 132 includes a single row of comb teeth 138. The teeth are mounted at an acute angle from the operational surface of the interior bar (about 70-80 degrees). The teeth either horizontally extend from the horizontal bar 132 (normal to the vertical bag cavity) or at an acute angle with respect to the vertical bag cavity. The bag comb teeth may be at a 90 degree angle to the vertical surface of the hanger bar 132 or less than 90 degrees from the bar. Hair extension 137 is mounted on these comb teeth 138. The comb teeth 138 generally extend the entire length of interior comb hanger 132 (the dashed lines showing a continuation of the comb teeth row).

The stylist can keep the left over extension hair organized and tangle free and customized by color or client and not just thrown in a bag or bin. The consumer can store their extension hair when un-used and choose to hang in closet for future use. This is ideal for the clip in hair extensions or the special occasion extension wearer. In today's market the hair has become better quality and lasts longer from application to application. This increases the need to store the hair instead of throw away extension hair. Hence the consumer saves money and gives stylists the organization he or she needs when storing left over extension hair for future use.

[0048] Storage bags 130 will be sold as a stylist pack which would consist of levels 1-12 and can be purchased separately. For example, the bags may include 12 to-be-labeled bags with custom tabs for levels 2-12 on a large lockable ring-and-hook to hang the bags that organizes and stores unused extension hair for a future client.
