Abstract
A flexible mat light having a mat and a light. The mat includes a top and a base connected by hinges having at least one living hinge. The top of the mat includes an outer shell adapted to mount the light and protect the light. The mat and base may include magnets to attach the light to a metal surface or when folding the top and base of the mat through the living hinges to place the light in a carrying mode. Due to the flexibility of the mat, the light may be placed in a standing position wherein the light may be directed in multiple positions; or the light may be placed in a carrying mode; or the light may be attached to a metal surface, the low-profile of the light allowing it to be out of the work area; or the light may include a hook for hanging the light near the work area.
Claims
1. A flexible mat light having a low-profile comprising a mat having a top and a base connected by one or more living hinges, and a light adapted to be attached to the mat, wherein the light is adapted to be moved to a plurality of different positions based on the movement of the top in relation to the base on the one or more living hinges.
2. The flexible mat light according to claim 1 wherein the mat is made of a thermoplastic polyester elastomer.
3. The flexible mat light according to claim 1 wherein there are four living hinges.
4. The flexible mat light according to claim 1 wherein the mat includes an outer shell to which the light is attached.
5. The flexible mat light according to claim 4 wherein the outer shell includes four stanchions.
6. The flexible mat light according to claim 1 wherein the top includes at least one arm and the base includes a plurality of slots adapted to receive the at least one arm to move the light to the plurality of different positions.
7. The flexible mat light according to claim 1 wherein the top includes at least one magnet and the base includes one magnet, the magnets adapted to attach the flexible mat light to a metal surface.
8. The flexible mat light according to claim 7 wherein the top includes two magnets and the base includes two magnets.
9. The flexible mat light according to claim 8 wherein the two magnets of the top and the two magnets of the bottom are constructed and arranged to mate with each other when the base is folded on the at least one living hinge to mate with the top.
10. The flexible mat light according to claim 9 wherein the top includes an opening and the base includes an opening and the openings are constructed and arranged to mate when the base is folded on the at least one living hinge to mate with the top to form a handle for carrying the flexible magnetic mat.
11. A flexible mat light having a low-profile comprising a mat made of a thermoplastic polyester elastomer having a top and a base connected by two hinges, each hinge including two living hinges, the mat including an outer shell adapted to receive a light, the outer shell including four stanchions, wherein the top includes at least one magnet and the base includes at least one magnet, the magnets adapted to attach the flexible mat light to a metal surface or to each other, and a light adapted to be attached to the outer shell of the mat, wherein the light is adapted to be moved to a plurality of different positions based on the movement of the top in relation to the base on the one or more living hinges.
12. The flexible mat light according to claim 11 wherein the top includes at least one arm and the base includes a plurality of slots adapted to receive the at least one arm to move the light to the plurality of different positions.
13. The flexible mat light according to claim 12 wherein the top includes two magnets and the base includes two magnets.
14. The flexible mat light according to claim 13 wherein the two magnets of the top and the two magnets of the bottom are constructed and arranged to mate with each other when the base is folded on the at least one living hinge to mate with the top.
15. The flexible mat light according to claim 14 wherein the top includes an opening and the base includes an opening and the openings are constructed and arranged to mate when the base is folded on the at least one living hinge to mate with the top to form a handle for carrying the flexible magnetic mat.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0028] Referring to the drawings, there is shown a new and unique flexible mat light. The flexible mat light allows the light to stand on its base and be focused in multiple positions as shown in
[0029] Referring to the drawings, the flexible mat light 10 includes a mat 12 and a light 14. The mat 12 is made from TPEE by injection molding. The light 14 includes an ABS housing 16 to include the light components as discussed hereafter. The mat has a front wall 20, a back wall 22, a top wall 24, a bottom wall 26, and side walls 28 and 30. The mat 12 comprises a top 32 and a base 34. Top 32 and base 34 are connected by hinges 36 and 38. Hinges 36 and 38 include two living hinges 40, 41, 42 and 43, respectively. The top 32 includes an outer shell 44 for receiving and holding the light 14 and protecting the light 14. The outer shell 44 comprises four stanchions 46, 48, 50 and 52. The light 14 is inserted from the back wall 22 into the shell 44 and will hold the light in place by fasteners 54 and, optionally, by tabs 55 in the mat 12 (
[0030] The top 32 of mat 12 includes two magnets 56 and 58 and the base 34 of mat 12 includes two magnets 60 and 62. The magnets in the top 32 are the same distance from the top wall and side walls as the magnets in the base are from the bottom wall and side walls. As seen hereafter, this allows the base 34 to fold by the living hinges 40 and 42 and mate with the top 32 as shown in
[0031] The top 32 and base 34 each include an opening 70 and 72, respectively, which openings will mate when the base 34 is folded to attach to the top 32, as shown in
[0032] The top 32 includes arms 74 and 76 for attaching to the plurality of slots 78 in base 34 by snap fit for adjusting the light to different positions as shown in
[0033] The light 14 includes a housing 16. The light 14 is attached to the mat by fasteners as described above. The light 14 includes in the housing 16 a lens or clear plastic cover 80, a reflector 82, an SMD board 84, a heat sink or heat shield 86, a rechargeable battery 88, a charging port assembly 90, a charging port cover 92, and an on/off power button assembly 94.
[0034] Referring to
[0035] Referring to the different embodiments of the flexible mat lights shown in
[0036] As seen in the drawings, the flexible mat light has a very low-profile. The dimensions for one preferred embodiment of the light are a length of about 8 to 10 inches, a width of about 5 to 7 inches, a height of about ? inches and a height at the point of the stanchions of about 1 and ? inches. The living hinges allow the light to stand on base 34 as shown in
[0037] The flexible mat light 10 may be attached to a metal surface near the work area by magnets 56, 58, 60 and 62. It is understood that a different number of magnets may be used without departing from the scope of the invention. Due to the low-profile of the flexible mat light, it is out of the way of the work area and may be used in tight work spaces.
