Description
EXAMPLES
The MORV Concept
[1331] 1) Search Chemical Abstracts using the name and/or the CAS Registry number for the material of interest and use the structure provided. If there are multiple isomers for a given material, use the structure provided by Chemical Abstracts or use the isomer that is most prevalent in the material. Input structure of material into winMolconn (Hall Associates, version 1.1.2.1). [1332] 2) Input values from 1) above into the following four equations:

[1338] 4) If all MORV values from equations 2a) through 2d) above are greater than 0.5, the subject material has a so-called Universal MORV.
Examples 1 to 10, Comparative Examples C1 to C4
[1339] Various malodour compositions were prepared from individual malodor reduction agents all showing a MORV value of at least 1.0; the compositions are described in Table 1. Subsequently these compositions were added to various 1,2-alkanediols in amounts ranging from 1 to 10 wt.-percent and the odor was evaluated by a panel of experienced examiners according to the following scale: (5) serious rancid odor to (1) odorless. The results are presented in Table 2 and represent mean scores.

[1340] The examples and comparative examples clearly indicate that adding 10 to 20 wt.-percent of one of the malodor reduction compositions to any of the 1,2-alkanediols removes the rancid odor completely.
[1341] It should be noted that the maolodor reduction agents and the compositions comprising them are particularly preferred.
