Abstract
A reversible fiber optic cassette for mounting with other like cassettes in a rack comprising a cassette receiving tray, the tray comprising a plurality of cassette engaging features on an upper surface is disclosed. The cassette comprises a plurality of optic fiber receptacles arranged along a front thereof, a multifiber receptacle on a back thereof and a plurality of optic fiber segments each between a respective one of the optic fiber receptacles and the multifiber receptacle, a first tray engaging feature extending from the first surface and configured for engaging with one of the cassette engaging features, a second tray engaging feature extending from the second surface and configured for engaging with one of the cassette engaging features; and a release mechanism comprising an actuator for selectively disengaging the tray engaging feature from the engaged one of the cassette engaging features.
Claims
1. A reversible fiber optic cassette for mounting with other like cassettes in a rack comprising a cassette receiving tray, the tray comprising a plurality of cassette engaging features on an upper surface, the cassette comprising: a cassette housing; a plurality of optic fiber receptacles; a multifiber receptacle; plurality of optic fiber segments; a first tray engaging feature; a second tray engaging feature; a securing mechanism; wherein the cassette housing comprises a first surface, a second surface opposite the first surface, a first end and a second end opposite the first end; wherein the plurality of optic fiber receptacles are arranged along the first end; wherein the multifiber receptacle is arranged on the second end; wherein each of the plurality of optic fiber segments interconnects a respective one of the optic fiber receptacles with the multifiber receptacle; wherein the first tray engaging feature extends from the first surface and is configured for engaging with one of the cassette engaging features when the first surface is positioned adjacent the upper surface; wherein the second tray engaging feature extends from said second surface and is configured for engaging with one of the cassette engaging features when the second surface is positioned adjacent the upper surface; and wherein the securing mechanism is configured for securing the cassette to the tray, the securing mechanism comprising an actuator for releasing the cassette when secured to the tray.
2. The reversible fiber optic cassette of claim 1, wherein the cassette engaging features each comprise a slot and the first tray engaging feature and second tray engaging feature each comprise a flexible hooked tab.
3. The reversible fiber optic cassette of claim 1, wherein the tray comprises a raised shoulder along a forward edge thereof, wherein the cassette housing comprises a first shoulder receiving channel portion on the first surface and a second shoulder receiving channel portion on the second surface.
4. he reversible fiber optic cassette of claim 1, wherein the plurality of optic fiber receptacles comprises an even plurality N of duplex fiber optic receptacles and the plurality of optic fiber segments comprises 2*N optic fibers.

The reversible fiber optic cassette of claim 1, wherein the securing mechanism comprises at least one securing feature for engaging a corresponding feature on the tray, and further wherein the actuator is configured for releasing the at least one securing feature from the corresponding feature when the cassette is secured to the tray.
6. The reversible fiber optic cassette of claim 5, wherein the corresponding feature comprises an aperture in the tray and the at least one securing feature comprises a knob on a flexible tab, the flexible tab biasing the knob into the aperture thereby securing the cassette to the tray.

The reversible fiber optic cassette of claim 6, comprising a pair of the at least one securing feature, wherein the knob of a first of the pair of securing features engages the aperture when the first surface is positioned adjacent the upper surface and the knob of a second of the pair of securing features engages the aperture when the second surface is positioned adjacent the upper surface.
8. A reversible fiber optic cassette for mounting with other like cassettes on a cassette receiving tray comprising a plurality of cassette engaging features on an upper surface thereof, the cassette comprising: a cassette body comprising a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface; a plurality of optic fiber receptacles arranged along a front end of the cassette body; a plurality of optic fiber segments; a first tray engaging feature extending from the first surface and configured for engaging with one of the cassette engaging features; a second tray engaging feature extending from the second surface and configured for engaging with one of the cassette engaging features; a release mechanism comprising an actuator for selectively disengaging the tray engaging feature from an engaged one of the cassette engaging features; wherein the cassette body is configured for receiving the optic fiber segments; and wherein one of a first end and a second end of a given one of the fiber optic segments is terminated at each of the optic fiber receptacles.
9. The reversible fiber optic cassette of claim 8, wherein the cassette engaging features each comprise a slot and the first and second tray engaging features each comprise a flexible hooked tab.

The reversible fiber optic cassette of claim 8, wherein the tray comprises a raised shoulder along a forward edge thereof, wherein the cassette housing comprises a first shoulder receiving channel portion on the first surface and a second shoulder receiving channel portion on the second surface.
11. The reversible fiber optic cassette of claim 8, wherein the plurality of optic fiber receptacles comprises an even plurality N of duplex fiber optic receptacles.
12. The reversible fiber optic cassette of claim 11, comprising 2XN optic fiber segments and wherein the first end of each of the optic fiber segment is terminated at a respective one of the plurality of optic fiber receptacles.
13. The reversible fiber optic cassette of claim 8, further comprising a multifiber receptacle arranged along a rear end of the cassette body and further wherein the first end of each of the optic fiber segments is terminated at a respective one of the optic fiber receptacles and the second end of each of the optic fiber segments is terminated at the multifiber receptacle.
14. A reversible fiber optic cassette for mounting on a tray comprising a plurality of cassette engaging features on an upper surface, the cassette comprising: a housing; a first tray engaging feature; a second tray engaging feature; wherein the housing comprises a first surface; wherein the housing comprises a second surface opposite the first surface; wherein the housing is configured for receiving a plurality of optic fibers; wherein the first tray engaging feature extends from the first surface, wherein the first tray engaging feature is configured for engaging with one of the cassette engaging features; wherein the second tray engaging feature extends from the second surface; and wherein the second tray engaging feature is configured for engaging with one of the cassette engaging features.

The cassette of claim 14, wherein the housing is configured for receiving a plurality of optic fiber receptacles along a front thereof, wherein the housing is configured for receiving a multifiber receptacle on a back thereof and wherein each of the plurality of optic fibers comprises one of a plurality of optic fiber segments, one of the optic fiber segments connecting a respective one of the optic fiber receptacles with the multifiber receptacle.
16. The cassette of claim 14, further comprising a mechanism for securing the cassette to the tray.
17. The cassette of claim 16, wherein the securing mechanism comprises an actuator for releasing the cassette when secured to the tray.
18. The cassette of claim 17, wherein the mechanism for securing the cassette on the tray comprises at least one securing feature for engaging a corresponding feature on the tray, and further wherein the actuator is configured for releasing the at least one securing feature from the corresponding feature when the cassette is secured to the tray.
19. The cassette of claim 18, wherein the corresponding feature comprises an aperture in the tray and the at least one securing feature comprises a knob on a flexible tab, the flexible tab biasing the knob into the aperture thereby securing the cassette to the tray.
20. The reversible fiber optic cassette of claim 19, comprising a pair of the securing features, wherein the knob of a first of the securing features engages the aperture when the first surface is positioned adjacent the upper surface and the knob of a second of the securing features engages the aperture when the second surface is positioned adjacent the upper surface.
