Abstract
A mobile dock is disclosed and includes a receiving unit for receiving the floor cleaner. The paired device may be the floor cleaner, or a smart device of a user. The mobile dock follows a user, such that the dock is conveniently accessible during use of the floor cleaner.
Claims
1: A mobile dock for receiving a floor cleaner, the mobile dock comprising: a receiving unit for receiving the floor cleaner, a drive unit arranged to effect translational motion of the mobile dock, a control unit arranged to communicate with a paired device, such that the control unit controls the drive unit to effect translational motion of the mobile dock based on the relative positions of the mobile dock and paired device.
2: The mobile dock according to claim 1 wherein the paired device is said floor cleaner.
3: The mobile dock according to claim 1, wherein the paired device is a smart device.
4: The mobile dock as claimed in claim 1, wherein the drive unit comprises a battery and a motor.
5: The mobile dock as claimed in claim 1, wherein the drive unit comprises at least one driven wheel.
6: The mobile dock as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a battery arranged to supply charge to the floor cleaner when the floor cleaner is received in the receiving unit.
7: The mobile dock as claimed in claim 1, arranged to receive a vacuum floor cleaner.
8: The mobile dock as claimed in claim 1, arranged to receive a wet floor cleaner.
9: The mobile dock as claimed in claim 8, further comprising a reservoir for receiving waste liquid from the paired wet floor cleaner.
10: The mobile dock as claimed in claim 8, further comprising a reservoir for supplying cleaning fluid to the wet floor cleaner.
11: The mobile dock as claimed in claim 8, further comprising a cleaning device arranged to clean the floor cleaner.
12: The mobile dock as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a removable accessory compatible for use with the paired floor cleaner.

[0021]
[0022]
[0023] The mobile dock is operable in either a follow-me mode, or a come-to-me mode.
[0024] In the follow-me mode, the wireless communications unit 50 is arranged to remain in regular communication with the paired device 56 in order to ascertain the location of the paired device 56, and send that information to the control unit 48 which controls the movement of the mobile dock 30 such that the mobile dock 30 remains a consistent distance from the paired device 56. The paired device 56 and the mobile dock 30 may each comprise a GPS chip in order to ascertain the relative positions of the paired device 56 and mobile dock 30. The skilled person will appreciate various other sensors may be used, for example optical, laser, ultrasound, and/or infrared, in order to determine the relative locations of the paired device 56 and mobile dock 30. As the user 38 operates the floor cleaning device 10, the mobile dock 30 follows the user 38 around to provide convenient access to the mobile dock 30 and the various services provided by the mobile dock 30. In the come-to-me mode, the user 38 activates the paired device 56 to send a signal to the wireless communications unit 50, that signal including the location of the paired device 56 and a command which is passed to the control unit 48 which activates the movement of the mobile dock 30 such that the mobile dock 30 moves into close proximity to the location of the paired device 56. The activation of the paired device 56 comprises selecting a come-to-me option provided via a user interface of the paired device 56. This allows the user 38 to conveniently access the mobile dock 30 when required. The mobile dock 30 is also operable in a home mode when the floor cleaner 10 is received by the mobile dock 30. In the home mode, the control unit 48 is arranged to activate movement of the mobile dock 30 such that the mobile dock 30 moves to a home location, for example in a utility cupboard. The mobile dock 30 may also automatically connect to a home station at the home location. The home station may comprise a charging point connected to mains electricity, and arranged to charge the battery 40. The home station may further include cleaning fluid and waste liquid reservoirs to respectively refill and empty the cleaning fluid reservoir 44 and waste liquid reservoir 42 of the mobile dock 30. Such an arrangement will further decrease the maintenance actions required to be undertaken by the user. The home mode may be activated by the user 38 operating the paired device 56. In alternative or additional arrangements, the home mode may be activated by a user interface present on the mobile dock 30, or after a set amount of time has elapsed since the floor cleaner 10 was received by the mobile dock 30. The set amount of time is chosen to correspond with the user 38 finishing their cleaning activities, for example 10 minutes. After the elapsed time, the home mode is activated and the mobile dock 30 and floor cleaner 10 returns to the home location.
[0025] Whilst the present invention has been described and illustrated with reference to particular embodiments, it will be appreciated by those of ordinary skill in the art that the invention lends itself to many different variations not specifically illustrated herein. By way of example only, certain possible variations will now be described.
[0026] The wireless communications protocol could be any suitable wireless communication protocol, for example Zigbee, Z-wave, or WIFI. The paired device may be the floor cleaner 10. In such an arrangement, the floor cleaner 10 will include a wireless communications unit arranged to communicate with the mobile dock 30, and a user interface which allows selection of the follow-me mode, or the come-to-me mode, and potentially the home mode.
[0027] The floor cleaner may be a dry floor cleaner, such as a vacuum cleaner or floor polisher which does not apply liquid to the floor. The mobile dock may still provide useful service functions to a dry floor cleaner, such as recharging the dry floor cleaner, cleaning the dry floor cleaner, and storing the dry floor cleaner when the user finishes their cleaning activity.
[0028] The mobile dock 30 may be arranged to carry one or more accessories for use with the floor cleaner.
[0029] Where in the foregoing description, integers or elements are mentioned which have known, obvious or foreseeable equivalents, then such equivalents are herein incorporated as if individually set forth. Reference should be made to the claims for determining the true scope of the present invention, which should be construed so as to encompass any such equivalents. It will also be appreciated by the reader that integers or features of the invention that are described as preferable, advantageous, convenient or the like are optional and do not limit the scope of the independent claims. Moreover, it is to be understood that such optional integers or features, whilst of possible benefit in some embodiments of the invention, may not be desirable, and may therefore be absent, in other embodiments.
