[0019] The various embodiments of the present invention will hereinafter be described in conjunction with the appended drawings, wherein like designations denote like elements.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0020] As discussed above, embodiments of the present disclosure relate to electronic devices and more particularly to a smartphone screen magnifier as used to improve the magnifying means for attachment to an electronic device.
[0021] Generally, disclosed is a smartphone detachable magnifier or prescription lens for viewing text or smaller objects without the need of wearing prescription eyewear, contact lenses, reading glasses or other visual aids. The lens may be equal in size to a phone screen and can clip on to the phone, be attached by hook and loop fastener such as VELCRO or by magnets or hinged to the case to move to the back or side of the phone when not needed. The detachable magnifier or prescription lens may be sized and configured for attachment to a plurality of differently sized smartphones. For example, flip/foldable cellphones, touchscreen phones, etc.
[0022] Referring now more specifically to the drawings by numerals of reference, there is shown in
[0023]
[0024] According to one embodiment, the magnifier 100 may be arranged as a kit 105. The kit 105 may include set of user instructions 107. The instructions 107 may detail functional relationships in relation to the structure of the magnifier 100 (such that the magnifier 100 can be used, maintained, or the like, in a preferred manner).
[0025] Referring now to
[0026] Further, the lens 110 may include a magnifying-means 116 configured to enlarge an appearance of the display-screen 10 when the lens 110 is placed over the display-screen 10. In one embodiment, the magnifying-means 116 may include magnifying glass. In this embodiment, the magnifying glass may include a convex lens 110 and a magnifying power of the magnifying glass may vary depending on where it is placed between a user's eye and the display-screen 10, and the total distance between them. Further, in this embodiment, the magnifying glass may have a focal length of at least 25 cm, or 2 magnification. However, other strengths are contemplated. For example, the magnifying glass may be a Coddington magnifier 100 configured to provide magnification power as high as 20, or a Hastings triplet magnifier 100 configured to provide a clearer image.
[0027] In another embodiment, the magnifying-means 116 may include a prescription lens 110. The prescription lens 110 may include a plurality of lens 110 strengths and may be customized to the user or standardized with lens 110 strengths that the user may choose. In the preferred embodiment, the prescription lens 110 power may be positive and configured to condense light and correct hyperopia/far-sightedness in the user, and in doing so, enlarge the appearance of the display-screen 10 to the user. In one embodiment, a lens-strength of the magnifying-means 116 may be at least 10 diopters. In another embodiment, the lens 110strength may be at least 2 diopters. In addition to this, as above, the prescription lens 110 may include standardized length strengths ranging from 0.25-10 diopters. Higher strengths are also contemplated.
[0028] In one embodiment, the lens 110 may be flexible. In this embodiment, the lens 110 may be foldable and easily manipulated. This embodiment may be particularly useful for smartphone devices that are flip/foldable such that the user may close their smartphone whilst the magnifier 100 stays attached to the display-screen 10. The lens 110 may be sized to substantially cover the display-screen 10 of the electronic-device 5. This may be particularly true for the embodiment where the electronic-device 5 is the smartphone and the lens 110 sized to substantially cover the display-screen 10 smartphone. It should be appreciated that the size of the lens 110 may differ as new electronic-device 5 designs and styles are realized.
[0029]
[0030]
[0031]
[0032] In this embodiment, the lens 110 may be movable between an operative-position 127 and an inoperative-position 129 via the hinge 128 such that the user may remove the lens 110 from the display-screen 10 but not from the electronic-device 5. In this embodiment, the operative-position 127 may include the lens 110 being positioned over the display-screen 10 of the electronic-device 5 and the inoperative-position 129 may include the lens 110 being positioned away from the display-screen 10 of the electronic-device 5. For example, in one embodiment, the inoperative-position 129 may include the lens 110 being folded at a rear of the electronic-device 5 (the rear being opposite the display-screen 10). In another embodiment, the inoperative-position 129 may include the lens 110 being positioned to a side of the electronic-device 5.
[0033]
[0034] It should be noted that the steps described in the method of use can be carried out in many different orders according to user preference. The use of step of should not be interpreted as step for, in the claims herein and is not intended to invoke the provisions of 35 U.S.C. 112(f). It should also be noted that, under appropriate circumstances, considering such issues as design preference, user preferences, marketing preferences, cost, structural requirements, available materials, technological advances, etc., other methods for magnifier 100 (e.g., different step orders within above-mentioned list, elimination or addition of certain steps, including or excluding certain maintenance steps, etc.), are taught herein.
[0035] The embodiments of the invention described herein are exemplary and numerous modifications, variations and rearrangements can be readily envisioned to achieve substantially equivalent results, all of which are intended to be embraced within the spirit and scope of the invention. Further, the purpose of the foregoing abstract is to enable the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the public generally, and especially the scientist, engineers and practitioners in the art who are not familiar with patent or legal terms or phraseology, to determine quickly from a cursory inspection the nature and essence of the technical disclosure of the application.
