Abstract
An exemplary insulator for a flue of a residential oven includes a bendable insulating body having a first end, a second end, and a bending portion. A first cut is disposed between the bending portion and the first end and a second cut is disposed between the bending portion and the second end. The first cut is expandable to form a first opening and the second cut is expandable to form a second opening.
Claims
1. An insulator for a flue of a residential oven, the insulator consisting of: a fibrous insulating body having a first end, a second end, and a bending portion situated between the first end and the second; a first cut extending through the insulating body, the first cut disposed between the bending portion and the first end; and a second cut extending through the insulating body, the second cut disposed between the bending portion and the second end; wherein the first cut is expandable to form a first opening; and wherein the second cut is expandable to form a second opening.
2. The insulator of claim 1, wherein the insulating body is capable of being deformed from a flat condition to a bent condition by application of a bending force to the insulating body; and wherein the first and second openings are substantially aligned when the insulating body is in the bent condition.
3. The insulator of claim 2, wherein the insulating body resists deformation from the flat condition to the bent condition.
4. The insulator of claim 1, wherein the insulating body includes glass fibers.
5. The insulator of claim 1, wherein the insulating body includes mineral fibers.
6. The insulator of claim 1, wherein a length of the insulating body is greater than a width of the insulating body.
7. The insulator of claim 1, wherein a thickness of the insulating body ranges from about 1 inch to about 3 inches.
8. The insulator of claim 1, wherein the insulating body has a thickness of about 2 inches.
9. An insulator for a flue of a residential oven, the insulator comprising: an insulation blanket that is bendable at a bend location to form a first leg and a second leg; a first opening in the first leg; and a second opening in the second leg, wherein the insulation blanket is operable to have the first opening be substantially aligned with the second opening when the insulator is bent at the bend location; wherein the first opening is formed by a first cut and a first plurality of transverse cuts across the first cut that create a plurality of first fingers at the first opening; and wherein the second opening is formed by a second cut and a second plurality of transverse cuts across the second cut that create a plurality of second fingers at the second opening.
10. The insulator of claim 9, wherein a number of the first fingers is equal to a number of the second fingers.
11. The insulator of claim 9, wherein the insulation blanket includes glass fibers.
12. The insulator of claim 9, wherein the insulation blanket includes mineral fibers.
13. The insulator of claim 9, wherein a length of the insulation blanket is greater than a width of the insulation blanket.
14. The insulator of claim 9, wherein a thickness of the insulation blanket ranges from about 1 inch to about 3 inches.
15. The insulator of claim 9, wherein the insulation blanket has a thickness of about 2 inches.
16. The insulator of claim 9, wherein a length of the insulation blanket extends between a first end of the insulation blanket and a second end of the insulation blanket; and wherein the bend location is substantially equidistant from the first end and the second end.
17. The insulator of claim 16, wherein the first opening is closer to the first end than the bend location; and wherein the second opening is closer to the second end than the bend location.
18. The insulator of claim 9, wherein a length of the insulation blanket extends between a first end of the insulation blanket and a second end of the insulation blanket; wherein a first relief cut is made on a first side of the insulation blanket; and wherein a second relief cut is made on a second side of the insulation blanket.
19. The insulator of claim 18, wherein the first relief cut is made at the bend location; and wherein the second relief cut is made at the bend location.

The bent insulation blanket 210 has an inner surface 226 and an outer surface 228. The insulator 200 is bent when it is assembled to the flue 202, thereby causing it to elastically deform. The elasticity of the material of the blanket 210 causes it to resist the bending force used to bend the insulator, resulting in an elastic force that opposes the bending force. No adhesive or fastener is needed to hold the insulator 200 in place on the flue 202 because the elastic force resisting the bending of the insulator 200 causes the insulator to grip the flue 202 at the openings 218, 224.
