Abstract
This disclosure is generally drawn to systems, devices, apparatus, and/or methods related to shaker/filtration systems for drilling environments. Specifically, the disclosed systems, devices, apparatus, and/or methods relate to extended handles on screens used in shaker/filtration systems for drilling environments. In some examples, extended screen handle(s) may include a fastening portion and a handling portion. The fastening portion may be adapted to be coupled to a screen along a side of the screen, and the handling portion may be coupled to the fastening portion. The handling portion may extend above the screen and extend about 25-100% of the length of the side of the screen.
Claims
1. A system, comprising: a fastening portion having a total length defined between a first end and an opposite second end, a total width defined between a front surface and an opposite rear surface, and a total height defined between a bottom surface and an opposite top surface, wherein the total length is greater than the total width and the total height, the total width is less than the total length and the total height, and a cross-sectional shape of the fastening portion is rectangular; a handling portion coupled to the opposite top surface of the fastening portion and comprising a plurality of grips adapted for handling by an operator, wherein the handling portion extends away from the opposite top surface of the fastening portion at an obtuse angle from a vertical plane defined by the total width of the fastening portion; and a screen coupled to the fastening portion such that the plurality of grips of the handle portion is positioned directly above a top or a top surface of the screen and vertically overlaps a portion of the top or the surface of the screen and extends along a majority portion, at least 50%, of the total length of the fastening portion.
2. An apparatus, comprising: a fastening portion adapted to be coupled to a screen along at least one exterior surface of the screen, wherein the fastening portion has a total length defined between a first end and an opposite second end, a total width defined between a front surface and an opposite rear surface, and a total height defined between a bottom surface and an opposite top surface, wherein the total length is greater than the total width and the total height, the total width is less than the total length and the total height and the total width is constant along the total height from the bottom surface to the opposite top surface for at least a portion of the total length between the first end and the opposite second end, wherein the total width of the fastening portion defines a vertical plane of the fastening portion; and a handling portion coupled to the opposite top surface of the fastening portion, wherein the handling portion extends away from the opposite top surface of the fastening portion at an obtuse angle with respect to the vertical plane defined by the total width of the fastening portion such that, when the fastening portion is coupled to the screen, the handle portion is positioned directly above a top or a top surface of the screen and extends about 25-100% of the total length of the fastening portion, and further wherein the total length of the fastening portion extends along an entire length of the at least one exterior surface of the screen.
3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein, when the fastening portion is coupled to the screen, the handling portion extends about 25-50% of the total length of the fastening portion.
4. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein, when the fastening portion is coupled to the screen, the handling portion extends about 50-75% of the total length of the fastening portion.
5. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein, when the fastening portion is coupled to the screen, the handling portion extends about 75-100% of the total length of the fastening portion.
6. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein, when the fastening portion is coupled to the screen, the at least one exterior surface of the screen comprises one entire side of the screen.
7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the handling portion and the fastening portion are each injection molded.
8. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein, when the fastening portion is coupled to the screen, the fastening portion is temporarily coupled to the screen.
9. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the handling portion comprises a plurality of grips adapted for handling by an operator.
10. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the fastening portion comprises a plurality of fastening holes adapted to couple the fastening portion to the screen.
11. A method, comprising: coupling the fastening portion of the apparatus, according to claim 2, to at least one exterior side of a first screen to provide at least one handle of the first screen such that an end of the handle portion located opposite the fastening portion is positioned above a top of the first screen and vertically overlaps a portion of the top of the first screen; positioning the first screen into a shaker basket via the at least one handle of the first screen that extend about 25-100% of the entire length of the at least one exterior side of the first screen.
12. The method of claim 11, further comprising: positioning a second screen into a shaker basket via one or more second handles that extend about 25-100% of a length of at least one side of the second screen.
13. The method of claim 12, further comprising: sliding the second screen along the at least one handle of the first screen until the second screen rests on the shaker basket.
14. The method of claim 12, further comprising: sliding the second screen along the at least one handle of the first screen until the second screen is removed from the shaker basket.

(14) The handling portion 110 may include a series of grips 111, 112, 113, 114 that may allow the operator to easily maneuver the screen on to, within, and/or off of the shaker basket. The grips 111, 112, 113, 114 of the handling portion 110 may be various widths and heights and may include any numbers of partitions forming the grips 111, 112, 113, 114. In some examples, the substantial entirety of the handling portion 110 may consist of grips. In some examples, only a portion of the handling portion 110 may consist of grips.
(15) The fastening portion 120 may include a series of fastening holes 122 that may allow the extended screen handle 100 to be affixed to the screen. In some examples, the fastening portion may be permanently affixed to the screen via the fastening holes 122, while, in other examples, the fastening portion may be detachably affixed to the screen via the fastening 122. The fastening holes 122 may be arranged in various configurations and/or shapes to accommodate the size, dimensions, and/or structure of the screen to which the extended screen handle 100 may be affixed. Locking holes 131 may be arranged in the fastening portion 120 to form a seal with the screen.
(16) In some examples, the extended screen handle 100 may be manufactured via an injection molding process. In some examples, extended screen handle 100 may include an over-molded seal. An over-molded seal may provide a seal between the screen and the shaker basket wall to reduce and/or prevent drilling fluid loss.
(17) Extended screen handles 100 may provide easier installation and reduced potential for damaging the screen during handling. For example, the extended screen handle 100 may make it easier for one operator to install screens, whereas conventional screens typically require two operators for screen installation. Additionally, the extended screen handles 100 may be installed from the end of the shaker. During handling, the extended screen handles 100 may prevent one screen from falling onto another screen and damaging the screen's wirecloth,
(18) The extended screen handle 100 may act as a rail such that an operator may slide the screen affixed to the extended screen handle 100 across the surface of the shaker pit during installation of the screen onto the shaker pit. Similarly, the extended screen handle 100 may act as a rail such that an operator may slide the screen affixed to the extended screen handle 100 across the surface of the shaker pit during removal of the screen from the shaker pit. In this manner, the screen suffixed to the extended screen handle 100 may be installed and/or removed from an end of the shaker pit by one operator.
(19) In some examples, the extended screen handle 100 may act as a rail such that an operator may slide the screen affixed to the extended screen handle 100 across a top surface of a handle of another screen installed in the shaker pit during installation of the screen onto the shaker pit. Similarly, in some examples, the extended screen handle 100 may act as a rail such that an operator may slide the screen affixed to the extended screen handle 100 across a top surface of a handle of another screen installed in the shaker pit during removal of the screen from the shaker pit. In this manner, the screen suffixed to the extended screen handle 100 may be installed and/or removed from an end of the shaker pit by one operator.
(20) Further, because the extended screen handle 100 may act as a rail to slide the screen across a top surface of another screen, contact between the surfaces of both screens may be reduced. In this manner, damage to one or both screens may be reduced,

(27) In some examples, shaker pit systems may include any number of screens. For example, some shaker pit systems may include two screens while other shaker pit systems may include four screens.
