Abstract
An apparatus and method for assisting a vehicle into a desired position within a parking space. The device uses non-uniform light strength light line or other pattern projection to generate highlighted projections onto a target at a vehicle dashboard. The user may form a strong projection by focusing multi laser projections to overlap each other at the target. The driver knows the location of the vehicle by memorizing the patterns along the projections relative to the locations in the parking space. The driver maneuvers the vehicle direction and speed in order to make the projections onto the target, to avoid hitting the garage door frame, and to park on a desired position inside the parking space. The devices can be used for both guiding the vehicle into the parking space at a predetermined path to avoid nearby objects and stopping the vehicle at the desired place and direction.
Claims
1. A parking aid apparatus for guiding a vehicle into a desired parking position through a predetermined parking pass, comprising: a housing for mounting to a structure; one or a plurality of light sources mounted in said housing and producing light pattern projections with visible pattern or short light line along said parking pass; each of said light source including means for independently adjusting the position of said light source relative to said housing by moving the said light source at an angle to the housing so as to adjust said light projection onto a selectable location of said vehicle when said vehicle is in the predetermined parking pass location; each of said light projection source including means independently adjusted within the housing so that said the light projection impinges on said parking pass of said vehicle at a selectable angle to the predetermined vehicle parking moving direction; and an electrical source powers said light sources.
2. The apparatus according to claim 1, where the light source is laser.
3. The apparatus according to claim 1, where said visible light patterns projection is produced by the characteristics of the lens which the light is projected through by the intended design, manufacture processes, or other predetermined methods.
4. The apparatus according to claim 1, where said projection is a line shape.
5. The apparatus according to claim 1, where said visible patterns along said projection is a short laser line, dotted-line, and dash lines consisting of predetermined short laser lines or a laser line with light strength and light width varying along the line.
6. The apparatus according to claim 5, where said laser line have a fan angle less than 15 and power less than 5 mW.
7. The apparatus according to claim 1, where a plurality of said light pattern projections are laser line beam projectors from one or more said apparatuses and are configurable to form T shape, V shape, X shape, dash line or other predetermined shape as a parking pattern projected onto a desired parking location on the dashboard of said vehicle when said vehicle is located under said desired parking pass.
8. The apparatus according to claim 1, where said light pattern projections from one or more apparatuses of claim 1 are configurable to form laser light patterns with different light strength along the pattern by partially overlapping each other.
9. The apparatus according to claim 1, where said light patterns from the same said base are prohibited to overlap each other within a predetermined distance, and if said recitation are met then an inherent characteristic would be the results prevent said laser projections being over a predetermined strength of laser light that the human eye may receive.
10. The apparatus according to claim 9, where the constraints are physically constructed on the apparatus that mechanically prevent the laser beams from overlapping each other within a predetermined distance, said constraints on said apparatus prevent a strong strength of laser light that the human eye may receive, and if said recitation are met then an inherent characteristic would be said constraints on said apparatus prevent a strong strength of laser light that the human eye may receive.
11. A parking aid apparatus for guiding a vehicle into a desired parking position through a predetermined parking pass, comprising: a housing for mounting to a structure; one or a plurality of light sources mounted in said housing and producing light pattern projections with visible pattern or short light line along said parking pass; each of said light projection source including means for independently adjusting the position of said light source relative to said housing within the housing so as to adjust of said light projection onto a selectable location of said vehicle when said vehicle is in the predetermined parking pass location; each of said light projection source including means independently adjusted within the housing so that said light projection impinges on said parking pass of said vehicle at a selectable angle to the predetermined vehicle parking moving direction; and an electrical source powers said light sources, where said light patterns from the same said base are prohibited to overlap each other within a predetermined distance, and if said recitation are met then an inherent characteristic would be the results prevent said laser projections being over a predetermined strength of laser light that the human eye may receive, where electrical sensors and switch circuits are installed inside said apparatus to constrain said laser projections from overlapping each other within a predetermined distance. When said laser beams overlap each other within said predetermined distance said circuits will switch off said lasers and may turn on a warning light.
12. The apparatus according to claim 1, where a plurality of said light projections of said apparatus of claim 1 is used to aid a plurality of vehicles parking at nearby parking spaces.
13. The apparatus according to claim 1, where said light pattern projections with visible pattern or short light line along said parking pass from the device of claim 1 can be used to park a plurality of different size vehicles at the same parking space without adjusting said light projections possible by remembering to stop each vehicle at different unique marks on said non-uniform projections when said predetermined mark reaches said targeted point on said vehicle.
14. A method of multiple laser pattern projection brightness with a plurality of laser patterns for a vehicle parking, comprising: Using one or a plurality of configurable laser pattern projection apparatus to generate a plurality of same or similar projections; and Adjusting said projections onto the target of said vehicle dashboard at a desired direction to fully or partially overlap, said projections with each other to multiply said laser projections' light brightness at the overlap locations.
15. The method according to claim 14, where a plurality of said laser patterns are used to create the laser pattern with different light strength along the pattern by partially overlapping each other.
16. A method for guiding a vehicle to a desired position in a confined space which method comprises of: a target on said vehicle; projecting one or a plurality of linear beams or other projection shape of light that have unique light patterns along the projections or short light projections with the ends of the projection as the recognized marks in the vicinity of predetermined locations along a predetermined vehicle parking pass; moving said vehicle towards said parking location into a field of view of the light beams; maintaining said beams on or nearby said target on said vehicle; the driver of said vehicle knows said vehicle location relative to the objectives in said parking space, and said parking position by recognizing the marks or end of the line on said light projections; and adjusting said vehicle direction to keep said light projection on said target by carefully adjusting said vehicle speed as needed when said vehicle is passing a nearby object or when parking said vehicle when the mark of said parking location reaches said target on the vehicle.
17. The method according to claim 16, where said light source is laser.
