Abstract
A chair suitable for disassembly and a shipping method for the disassembled chair, which arranges chair parts of multiple chairs in one container and saves shipping cost. The disassembled chair has at least a backrest porting and a seat portion with extending legs, each of which has multiple connecting holes allowing them to be connected by mechanical fastener, such as rivets or screws. The seat portions of multiple chairs can be inverted and stacked within each other and multiple backrests can be located above the stacked seats between their legs, all within a single container so that the shipping and storing costs are lower.
Claims
1. A disassembled chair apparatus, comprising: a seat portion constructed of a seating surface portion and a plurality of legs attached to the seating surface portion without using a mechanical fastener, the legs extending from the seating surface portion and diverging away from each other to partially enclose a nesting cavity between the legs from the seating surface portion to distal ends of the legs; and a backrest portion configured to attach to the seat portion via mechanical fasteners and sized, when disassembled from the seat portion, to be placed entirely within the seat portion's nesting cavity.
2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the chair is a first chair and further comprising a second chair, and wherein the space efficient shipping arrangement comprises the second chair's seat portion nested within the first chair's nesting cavity and the backrest portions diagonally crossing each other within the second chair's nesting cavity.
3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the chair is a first chair and further comprising a second chair, and wherein the space efficient shipping arrangement comprises the second chair's seat portion nested within the first chair's nesting cavity.
4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the backrest portion and seat portion are made of wood, metal, or plastic.
5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the backrest portion and the seat portion are upholstered.
6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the backrest portion defines a first set of connection holes and the seat portion defines a second set of connection holes.
7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the first and second sets of connection holes receive the removable fasteners.
8. A method for shipping a disassembled chair, comprising: obtaining a disassembled chair having a seat portion and a backrest portion, the seat portion constructed of a seating surface portion and a plurality of legs attached to the seating surface portion without using a mechanical fastener, the legs extending from the seating surface portion and diverging away from each other to partially enclose a nesting cavity between the legs from the seating surface portion to distal ends of the legs, the backrest portion configured to attach to the seat portion via mechanical fasteners and sized, when disassembled from the seat portion, to fit entirely within the seat portion's nesting cavity; obtaining a shipping container; placing the seat portion in the shipping container; and placing the backrest portion entirely within the seat portion's nesting cavity.
9. The method according to claim 8 further comprising obtaining a plurality of the chairs and nesting the seat portions together, and placing the nested seat portions in the shipping container with the seat portions' seating surface portions facing downward.
10. The method according to claim 9 further comprising dividing the backrest portions into two groups, crossing the two groups with respect to each other, and placing the crossed groups in the outermost seat portion's nesting cavity.
11.-12. (canceled)
13. A kit for shipping a disassembled chair, comprising: a plurality of disassembled chairs, each disassembled chair having a seat portion and a backrest portion, each seat portion constructed of a seating surface portion and a plurality of legs attached to the seating surface portion without using a mechanical fastener, the legs extending from the seating surface portion and diverging away from each other to partially enclose a nesting cavity between the legs from the seating surface portion to distal ends of the legs, and each backrest portion configured to attach to the seat portion via mechanical fasteners and sized, when disassembled from the seat portion, to be placed entirely within the seat portion's nesting cavity; and a shipping container, wherein the seat portions are nested together inside the shipping container so that the seating surface portions are substantially parallel to each other, and wherein the plurality of backrest portions are disposed within the outermost nested seat portion's nesting cavity.
