Abstract
An attic ladder modification kit, a method of modifying an attic ladder using the kit, an attic ladder, and a method of using the attic ladder. The attic ladder modification kit includes a plurality of components for installation onto the attic ladder to improve the safety and ease of use of the attic ladder through modification, either during construction of the attic ladder, or as an after-market addition to the attic ladder. The plurality of components includes a pair of springs to bias a hinged connection between a middle section and an upper section of the attic ladder, means to removably secure a lower section hingedly connected to the middle section of the attic ladder, and a rope and pulley system and a descent rope to facilitate raising and lowering the attic ladder into and out of an attic opening, respectively.
Claims
1. An attic ladder modification kit, comprising: a first spring configured to bias a connection between two sections of an attic ladder; a pulley system configured to transition the attic ladder between a first position and a second position; and a fastener configured to secure one or more sections of the attic ladder.
2. The attic ladder modification kit of claim 1, further comprising a descent rope attachable to a top rung of a lower section of the attic ladder.
3. The attic ladder modification kit of claim 1, further comprising a snap hook that is securable to a first end of a rope of the pulley system, wherein the snap hook is near a ceiling if the ladder assembly is in a downward or extended position.
4. The attic ladder modification kit of claim 1, wherein the first spring is attached on an upper end thereof to an upper section of the attic ladder, and on a lower end thereof to a middle section of the attic ladder, wherein a connection between the upper section and the middle section is pivotal.
5. The attic ladder modification kit of claim 4, further comprising a second spring, wherein the second spring is attached on an upper end thereof to the upper section of the attic ladder, and on a lower end thereof to the middle section of the attic ladder.

The attic ladder modification kit of claim 5, wherein each of the first spring and the second spring is attached on the upper end thereof to a fastener adjacent to a rung of the upper section of the attic ladder, wherein each of the first spring and the second spring is attached on the lower end thereof to a fastener adjacent to a rung of the middle section of the attic ladder.
7. The attic ladder modification kit of claim 1, wherein a pulley of the pulley system is positioned above an upper section of the attic ladder, wherein a first end of a rope of the pulley system is positioned behind a rearward face of the attic ladder, wherein a second end of the rope of the pulley system is positioned afore a forward face of the attic ladder.
8. The attic ladder modification kit of claim 7, wherein a portion of the rope of the pulley system is attached to a middle section of the attic ladder.
9. The attic ladder modification kit of claim 8, wherein a portion of the rope of the pulley system positioned between the pulley and the first end of the rope of the pulley system is slidably disposed through a hole in a ceiling adjacent to the attic ladder.
10. The attic ladder modification kit of claim 1, wherein the fastener configured to secure one or more sections of the attic ladder includes one or more connections to secure a pivotal connection between a lower section of the attic ladder and a middle section of the attic ladder.
11. The attic ladder modification kit of claim 10, wherein the fastener configured to secure the pivotal connection between the lower section of the attic ladder and the middle section of the attic ladder is configured to secure the lower section and the middle section in a folded configuration.
12. The attic ladder modification kit of claim 11, wherein the fastener configured to secure the lower section and the middle section in a folded configuration includes at least one fastener selected from a group consisting of: a snap hook, a clasp, a strap, an adjustable strap, a hook-and-loop interaction, a magnetic interaction, and a combination thereof.
13. An attic ladder, comprising: an upper section, a middle section, and a lower section, wherein the upper section is pivotally connected to the middle section, wherein the middle section is pivotally connected to the lower section; a first spring configured to bias any connection between any two sections of the attic ladder; a pulley system configured to transition the attic ladder between a first position and a second position; and a fastener configured to secure one or more sections of the attic ladder.
14. The attic ladder of claim 13, further comprising a descent rope attached to a top rung of the lower section of the attic ladder.
15. The attic ladder of claim 13, further comprising a snap hook that is secured to a first end of a rope of the pulley system, wherein the snap hook is near a ceiling if the ladder assembly is in a downward or extended position.
16. The attic ladder of claim 13, wherein the first spring is attached on an upper end thereof to the upper section of the attic ladder, and on a lower end thereof to the middle section of the attic ladder.
17. The attic ladder of claim 16, further comprising a second spring, wherein the second spring is attached on an upper end thereof to the upper section of the attic ladder, and on a lower end thereof to the middle section of the attic ladder.
18. The attic ladder of claim 17, wherein each of the first spring and the second spring is attached on the upper end thereof to a fastener adjacent to a rung of the upper section of the attic ladder, wherein each of the first spring and the second spring is attached on the lower end thereof to a fastener adjacent to a rung of the middle section of the attic ladder.
19. The attic ladder of claim 13, wherein a pulley of the pulley system is positioned above the upper section of the attic ladder, wherein a first end of a rope of the pulley system is positioned behind a rearward face of the attic ladder, wherein a second end of the rope of the pulley system is positioned afore a forward face of the attic ladder.
20. The attic ladder of claim 19, wherein a portion of the rope of the pulley system is attached to the middle section of the attic ladder.
21. The attic ladder of claim 20, wherein a portion of the rope of the pulley system positioned between the pulley and the first end of the rope of the pulley system is slidably disposed through a hole in a ceiling adjacent to the attic ladder.
22. The attic ladder of claim 13, wherein the fastener configured to secure one or more sections of the attic ladder includes one or more connections to secure the pivotal connection between the lower section of the attic ladder and the middle section of the attic ladder.
23. The attic ladder of claim 22, wherein the fastener configured to secure the pivotal connection between the lower section of the attic ladder and the middle section of the attic ladder is configured to secure the lower section and the middle section in a folded configuration.
24. The attic ladder of claim 23, wherein the fastener configured to secure the lower section and the middle section in a folded configuration includes at least one fastener selected from a group consisting of: a snap hook, a clasp, a strap, an adjustable strap, a hook-and-loop interaction, a magnetic interaction, and a combination thereof.
