Abstract

A waterproof barrier that replaceably attaches to an upholstered weight bench and maintains the upholstered weight bench sanitary from body fluids from a previous user. The waterproof barrier includes a cover, a backing, and a maintaining apparatus. The cover selectively covers the upholstered weight bench and absorbs the body fluids of the current user of the upholstered weight bench. The backing lines the cover and prevents the body fluids from a previous user of the upholstered weight bench from coming into contact with the current user. The maintaining apparatus extends around the cover and selectively holds the waterproof barrier onto the upholstered weight bench.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

Introductory

[0050] Referring now to the figures, in which like numerals indicate like parts, and particularly to FIG. 1, the waterproof barrier of the embodiments of the present invention is shown generally at 10 for replaceably attaching to an upholstered weight bench 12 and for maintaining the upholstered weight bench 12 sanitary from body fluids 14 from a previous user 16.

The Overall Configuration of the Waterproof Barrier 10

[0051] The overall configuration of the waterproof barrier 10 can best be seen in FIG. 2, and as such, will be discussed with reference thereto.

[0052] The waterproof barrier 10 comprises a cover 18, a backing 20, and a maintaining apparatus 22. The cover 18 is for selectively covering the upholstered weight bench 12 and for absorbing the body fluids 14 of the current user 16 of the upholstered weight bench 12. The backing 20 lines the cover 18 and is for preventing the body fluids 14 from a previous user 16 of the upholstered weight bench 12 from coming into contact with the current user 16. The maintaining apparatus 22 extends around the cover 18, and is for selectively holding the waterproof barrier 10 on the upholstered weight bench 12.

The Specific Configuration of the Cover 18

[0053] The specific configuration of the cover 18 can best be seen in FIGS. 2 and 3, and as such, will be discussed with reference thereto.

[0054] The cover 18 is rectangular-shaped, and has a perimeter 24, a user-facing surface 26 and a bench-facing surface 28. The perimeter 24 of the cover 18 depends for engaging around and under the upholstered weight bench 12.

[0055] The cover 18 is made from terrycloth 30 for being absorbent for absorbing the body fluids 14 of the current user 16 of the upholstered weight bench 12 by acting as a shield 32 for preventing the current user 16 of the upholstered weight bench 12 from making contact with the upholstered weight bench 12, and for stretching to fit the upholstered weight bench 12.

The Specific Configuration of the Backing 20

[0056] The specific configuration of the backing 20 can best be seen in FIGS. 2 and 3, and as such, will be discussed with reference thereto.

[0057] The backing 20 is fused to an entirely of the bench-facing surface 28 of the cover 18, up to the perimeter 24 of the cover 18.

[0058] The backing 20 is made from a polyurethane laminate fabric 34. The polyurethane laminate fabric 34 is a compound fabric made by laminating a polyester interlock knit fabric 36 to a thin 1 ml thick film of polyurethane 38.

[0059] Most polyurethane laminate fabrics 34 are made by laminating the polyester interlock knit fabric 36 to the 1 ml thick film of polyurethane 38. There are two processes used for this lamination: [0060] Solvent lamination that fuses the polyester interlock knit fabric 36 and the thin 1 ml thick film of polyurethane 38 together into a single monolithic fabric 40; and [0061] Hot melt that uses heat-activated glue 42 to adhere the polyester interlock knit fabric 36 and the thin 1 ml thick film of polyurethane 38 together.

[0062] The present invention utilizes the first process of solvent lamination that fuses the polyester interlock knit fabric 36 and the thin 1 ml thick film of polyurethane 38 together into the single monolithic fabric 40.

[0063] Polyurethane laminated fabric 34 is generally referred to a specific type of use, such as, makers 44 of reusable incontinence products 46 and accessories 48, such as, nappies 50, wet bags 52, and cloth menstrual pads 54.

[0064] The backing 20 is non-skid to help keep the waterproof barrier 10 in place on the upholstered weight bench 12.

The Specific Configuration of the Maintaining Apparatus 22

[0065] The specific configuration of the maintaining apparatus 22 can best be seen in FIGS. 2, 3, and 4, and as such, will be discussed with reference thereto.

[0066] The maintaining apparatus 22 includes the perimeter 24 of the cover 18 having a conduit 56. The conduit 56 of the perimeter 24 of the cover 18 is a partial folding over of the perimeter 24 of the cover 18 onto itself along the bench-facing surface 28, and is maintained thereat by stitches 58.

[0067] The maintaining apparatus 22 further includes an endless elastic band 60. The endless elastic band 60 extends through the conduit 56 of the perimeter 24 of the cover 18 for allowing the waterproof barrier 10 to stretch and fit onto the upholstered weight bench 12 of different sizes, for producing a snug fitting waterproof barrier 10 that is able to stretch and conform to any upholstered weight bench 12.

[0068] The maintaining apparatus 22 prevents the waterproof barrier 10 from moving or slipping off the upholstered weight bench 12.
