Abstract
A rack for use with a two or three-wheeled vehicle including a platform defining a length and a width, at least one of the length and the width of the platform being adjustable, and a platform support, operably connected to the platform, configured to be secured to the two or three-wheeled vehicle.
Claims
1. A rack for use with a two or three-wheeled vehicle, comprising: a platform defining a length, a width, a proximal end and a distal end, the length of the platform being adjustable in such a manner that the distal end can be moved distally and proximally without movement of the proximal end; and a platform support, operably connected to the platform, configured to be secured to the two or three-wheeled vehicle.
2. A rack as claimed in claim 1, wherein both the length and the width of the platform are adjustable.
3. A rack for use with a two or three-wheeled vehicle, comprising: a platform support configured to be secured to the two or three-wheeled vehicle; and a platform, operably connected to the platform support, defining a length and a width, at least one of the length and the width of the platform being adjustable, and including a frame with a base portion that is secured to the platform support, and at least one laterally slidable member that is laterally slidable relative to the base portion and relative to the platform support in one direction to increase the width of the platform and in another direction to decrease the width of the platform.
4. A rack as claimed in claim 3, wherein the platform includes a laterally extending guide that is secured to the frame; and the at least one laterally slidable member is carried by, and slidable relative to, the laterally extending guide.
5. A rack as claimed in claim 4, wherein the laterally extending guide defines first and second longitudinal ends; and the at least one laterally slidable member comprises first and second independently laterally slidable members respectively associated with the first and second longitudinal ends of the laterally extending guide.

A rack as claimed in claim 3, wherein the platform includes first and second longitudinally spaced laterally extending guides that are secured to the frame, each laterally extending guide including first and second ends; and the at least one laterally slidable member comprises a first pair of laterally slidable members respectively associated with the first and second ends of the first laterally extending guide and a second pair of laterally slidable members respectively associated with the first and second ends of the second laterally extending guide.
7. A rack as claimed in claim 3, wherein the platform includes at least one lock having a locked state that prevents movement of the at least one laterally slidable member and an unlocked state that permits movement of the at least one laterally slidable member.
8. A rack as claimed in claim 3, wherein the at least one laterally slidable member includes a laterally extending portion and a vertically extending portion.
9. A rack as claimed in claim 3, wherein the frame includes a distal end portion that is removably secured to the base portion.
10. A rack as claimed in claim 9, wherein the platform includes a longitudinally movable portion that is removably secured to the base portion and movable relative to the base portion in a first length direction to increase the length of the platform and in a second length direction to decrease the length of the platform; and the respective configurations of the base portion, the distal end portion and the longitudinally movable portion are such that only one of the distal end portion and the longitudinally movable portion may be secured to the base portion at a time.
11. A rack as claimed in claim 10, wherein the platform includes at least one lock having a locked state that prevents removal of the distal end portion and movement and removal of the longitudinally movable portion and an unlocked state that permits removal of the distal end portion and movement and removal of the longitudinally movable portion.

A rack as claimed in claim 1, wherein the platform includes a frame with a base portion that is secured to the platform support and a longitudinally movable portion that is movable relative to the base portion in a first length direction to increase the length of the platform and in a second length direction to decrease the length of the platform.
13. A rack as claimed in claim 12, wherein the base portion includes a plurality of tubes; the longitudinally movable portion includes a corresponding plurality of elongate members that are movable relative to the tubes; and the platform includes at least one lock having a locked state that prevents movement of the elongate members and an unlocked state that permits movement of the elongate members.
14. A rack as claimed in claim 12, wherein the longitudinally movable portion includes at least one laterally movable member that is movable relative to the longitudinally movable portion in one direction to increase the width of the platform and in another direction to decrease the width of the platform.
15. A rack as claimed in claim 1, wherein the two or three-wheeled vehicle comprises a bicycle, the rack further comprising: means for securing the platform support to the bicycle; and means for securing the platform to the bicycle.
16. A rack as claimed in claim 1, wherein the platform support is configured to support the platform over a wheel of the two or three-wheeled vehicle.
17. A rack system for use with a two or three-wheeled vehicle, comprising: a platform including a frame with a base portion and a distal end portion that is configured to be removably secured to the base portion at a location on the base portion, and at least one laterally movable member that is movable relative to the base portion in one direction to increase the width of the platform and in another direction to decrease the width of the platform; a platform support, operably connected to the platform, configured to be secured to the two or three-wheeled vehicle; and a frame extension that is configured to be removably secured to the base portion at the location on the base portion in place of the distal end portion such that the frame extension is longitudinally movable relative to the base portion in a first length direction to increase the length of the platform and in a second length direction to decrease the length of the platform; wherein the respective configurations of the base portion, the distal end portion and the frame extension are such that only one of the distal end portion and the frame extension may be secured to the base portion at a time.
18. A rack system as claimed in claim 17, wherein the platform includes at least one lock having a locked state that prevents removal of the distal end portion and movement and removal of the frame extension and an unlocked state that permits removal of the distal end portion and movement and removal of the frame extension.
19. A rack system as claimed in claim 18, wherein the platform includes a laterally extending guide that is secured to the frame base portion; and the at least one laterally movable member comprises first and second laterally movable members that are carried by, and independently slidable relative to, the laterally extending guide.
20. A rack system as claimed in claim 19, wherein the platform includes at least one lock having a locked state that prevents movement of the laterally movable members and an unlocked state that permits movement of the laterally movable members.
21. A rack system as claimed in claim 17, wherein the two or three-wheeled vehicle comprises a bicycle.
