Abstract
A dental appliance case having a retractable cord and anchor to allow the case to be attached to a travel case, backpack or clothing so that it can be easily toted with little risk of losing the case. The case may include a compartment for housing a dental appliance and a compartment for housing a retractable cord and a retraction mechanism.
Claims
1. A dental appliance case comprising: a. an outer case; b. an internal compartment for housing a dental appliance; c. a retractable cord and an anchor for attaching said case to an external structure; and d. a second internal compartment for housing a retraction mechanism for retracting said cord.
2. The case of claim 1, wherein said internal compartment has a crescent shape that is complementary to an orthodontic retainer appliance.
3. The case of claim 1, wherein said internal compartment surrounds said second internal compartment within the outer case.
4. The case of claim 1, wherein the retraction mechanism includes a biasing mechanism for pulling said retractable cord into said second internal compartment.
5. The case of claim 4, wherein slack of said retractable cord is stored in said second internal compartment.
6. The case of claim 1, further comprising a lid over said internal compartment, but not said second internal compartment.
7. The case of claim 6, wherein said lid includes a mirror.
8. The case of claim 6, wherein said lid includes a pick retainer for holding a pick or floss pick.
9. The case of claim 1, wherein said anchor is a clip structure that can be removably attached to a closed-loop structure, such as a belt-loop or backpack strap.
10. A dental appliance case comprising: a. an outer case; b. an internal crescent-shaped compartment having a shape complementary to an orthodontic retainer appliance; and c. a second internal compartment nested within said internal crescent-shaped compartment for housing a retraction mechanism and a retractable cord.
11. The case of claim 10, wherein the retraction mechanism includes a biasing mechanism for pulling said retractable cord into said second internal compartment.
11. The case of claim 11, wherein slack of said retractable cord is stored in said second internal compartment.
13. The case of claim 10, further comprising a lid over said internal compartment, but not said second internal compartment.
14. The case of claim 13, wherein said lid includes a mirror.
15. The case of claim 13, wherein said lid includes a pick retainer for holding a pick or floss pick.
16. The case of claim 10, wherein said anchor is a clip structure that can be removably attached to a closed-loop structure, such as a belt-loop or backpack strap.
17. A dental appliance case comprising: a. an outer case; b. an internal crescent-shaped compartment having a shape complementary to an orthodontic retainer appliance; c. a lid closable over said internal crescent-shaped compartment; d. a retractable cord and an anchor attached to a distal end of said retractable cord; e. a retraction mechanism connected to a proximal end of said retractable cord having a biasing component for drawing in said retractable cord; and f. a second internal compartment nested within said internal crescent-shaped compartment for housing said retraction mechanism and said retractable cord.
18. The case of claim 17, wherein slack of said retractable cord is stored in said second internal compartment.
19. The case of claim 17, wherein said lid includes a mirror.
20. The case of claim 17, wherein said lid includes a pick retainer for holding a pick or floss pick.

[0015] An example embodiment of the dental appliance case of the present invention is provided below in
[0016] The crescent well 15 surrounds and accommodates a second compartment 14 for housing the retraction mechanism 4a. The anchor 12 may be connected to the case 1 by the retraction cord 13a, and may function to connect the case 1 to a backpack, belt-loop or other structure that allows the case 1 to be easily ported by the user thereof, without the need to pay special attention to the case 1. The retraction cord may be connected to a retraction mechanism 14a in the cord compartment 14.
[0017] In some embodiments, the retraction mechanism 14a may include s biased wheel 14b for reeling in the retractable cord 13 and a second biased wheel 14c to provide the force for spinning the reeling wheel. The retraction mechanism is housed within the cord compartment 14 in the rear portion of the dental appliance case 1. Thus, the dental appliance case 1 may be a self-contained unit that includes the retraction mechanism 14a therein. The present invention is not limited to the forgoing example, and other embodiments having different configurations are within the scope of the present invention.
