DESCRIPTION OF EXEMPLARY EMBODIMENTS
(8) With reference to the drawings, a recording apparatus 1 that includes a medium transportation device 2 according to Embodiment 1 of the invention will be described in detail. First, an outline of the recording apparatus 1 of the present embodiment will be described.
(9) The recording apparatus 1 of the present embodiment includes the medium transportation device 2 that is configured to transport a medium P in a transportation direction A by placing the roll-shaped medium P on a rotation shaft 4 rotatable in a rotation direction C. Further, the recording apparatus 1 also includes an edge guide 10 that guides transportation of the medium P, a plurality of transportation rollers such as transportation rollers 5 and 6 which constitute a transportation unit 7 that transports the medium P in a transportation direction A together with the rotation shaft 4, and a recording head 3 which is a recording section that performs recording on the transported medium P, which are disposed in a transportation path of the medium P.
(10) The recording head 3 is disposed on a carriage 8 and configured to perform recording on the transported medium P by ejecting ink from nozzles, which are not shown in the figure, while reciprocating in a scan direction B which is perpendicular to the transportation direction A of the medium P. The recording apparatus 1 of the present embodiment, having the transportation unit 7 and the recording head 3 of the above configuration, can form a desired image on the medium P by repeating transportation of the medium P in the transportation direction A by a predetermined amount (1 pass) and ejection of ink while moving the recording head 3 in the scan direction B onto the medium P in a stationary state. Although the recording apparatus 1 of the present embodiment is a so-called serial printer that performs recording by repeating transportation of the medium P and scanning of the recording head 3, it may be a so-called line printer that performs continuous recording by continuously transporting the medium P using a line head having nozzles arrayed in a width direction of the medium P. Further, recording apparatuses other than ink jet printers such as transfer type printers may also be used.
(11) The recording apparatus 1 of the present embodiment can use the roll-shaped medium P of a variety of widths. A user can guides the positions of the edges P.sub.end of the medium P (see
(12) Next, the edge guide forming section 9 which is an essential part of the recording apparatus 1 (medium transportation device 2) of the present embodiment will be described.
(13) As shown in
(14) The foreign matter collecting section 13 is detachably attached to the edge guide 10. Further,
(15) That is, the medium transportation device 2 of the present embodiment includes the transportation unit 7 that transports the medium P in the transportation direction A, the edge guide 10 that regulates positions of the edges P.sub.end of the medium P in the width direction perpendicular to the transportation direction A to thereby guide transportation of the medium P, and the foreign matter collecting section 13 that collects foreign matters at the edges P.sub.end of the medium P. Since the medium transportation device 2 of the present embodiment has the foreign matter collecting section 13 in the edge guide 10, the foreign matter collecting section 13 can be accurately aligned to the edge P.sub.end of the medium P. In addition, the foreign matter collecting section 13, which is disposed at the forming position of the edge guide 10 which is easily accessed by a user, can be cleaned and replaced in a simple manner. Therefore, the medium transportation device 2 of the present embodiment can reduce a decrease in transport accuracy of media P due to a foreign matter at the edge P.sub.end of the medium P in a simple manner.
(16) In other words, the recording apparatus 1 of the present embodiment includes the medium transportation device 2 having the above configuration, and the recording head 3 that performs recording on the medium P transported by the medium transportation device 2. Accordingly, recording can be performed on the medium P while reducing a decrease in transport accuracy of media due to a foreign matter at the edge P.sub.end of the medium P in a simple manner.
(17) Although details of the configuration will be described later, the foreign matter collecting section 13 of the present embodiment is detachable attached to the edge guide 10. Accordingly, cleaning and replacement of the foreign matter collecting section 13 can be particularly easily performed. Specifically, cleaning and replacement of the felt F1 attached to the foreign matter container 12, cleaning and replacement of the felt F2 attached to the cover section 11, and disposal of the foreign matter collected in the collection chamber 21 can be easily performed by the user. Accordingly, the medium transportation device 2 of the present embodiment is configured such that a decrease in transport accuracy of media due to a foreign matter at the edge P.sub.end of the medium can be reduced in a simple manner.
(18) As shown in
(19) Next, the foreign matter collecting section 13 which is an essential part of the recording apparatus 1 (medium transportation device 2) of the present embodiment will be described in detail.
(20) As shown in
(21) As shown in
(22) Further, as shown in
(23) It should be noted that the invention is not limited to the above embodiments. Regardless to say, various modifications are contemplated within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims, and these should be included in the scope of the invention.
(24) This application claims priority under 35 U.S.C. 119 to Japanese Patent Application No. 2016-171054, filed Sep. 1, 2016. The entire disclosure of Japanese Patent Application No. 2016-171054 is hereby incorporated herein by reference.
