Abstract
A sole for a shoe or footwear device having one or more of a laterally and/or medially flared forefoot portion, a spherical protrusion underneath, and discrete toe separating elements between at least one pair of adjacent toes. A shoe may be formed from said sole by joining said sole with an upper. A method of custom-fitting such a sole, shoe, or other footwear device to the foot or feet of a unique wearer is also disclosed.
Claims
1. A sole for a shoe or other footwear device comprising an outwardly expanded forefoot portion to facilitate toe separation.
2. A sole according to claim 1, wherein at least one of the sides of the forefoot portion is flared in a single stage beginning at the hind-most edge of the corresponding toe knuckle.
3. A sole according to claim 1, wherein at least one of the sides of the forefoot portion is flared in two stages, with the first stage beginning at the hind-most edge of the corresponding toe knuckle and concluding at the fore-most edge of that toe knuckle, and with the second stage beginning at the fore-most edge of that toe knuckle.
4. A sole according to claim 1, wherein at least one of the sides of the forefoot portion is outwardly expanded.
5. A sole for a shoe or other footwear device comprising a substantial spherical protrusion centered within the forefoot portion to facilitate toe separation.
6. A sole according to claim 5, wherein said spherical protrusion is centered at or near the midpoint between the hindmost lateral point of the pinky toe knuckle and the foremost medial point of the big toe distal phalanx, corresponding to the inferior apex of the index toe knuckle.
7. A sole according to claim 5, wherein said spherical protrusion further comprises at least one of a steep convex drop-off at the foremost side and a steep concave drop-off at the hindmost side.
8. A sole according to claim 5, wherein said forefoot portion further comprises a secondary spherical profile which fills the entire area of said forefoot portion when viewed aerially.
9. A sole according to claim 5, wherein the hindfoot portion of said sole further comprises a raised heel portion.
10. A sole according to claim 9, wherein said raised heel portion is widened from a superior side to a uniformly or near-uniformly expanded profile of the same at the inferior side of said sole.
11. A shoe comprising an upper portion and a sole portion, wherein the sole portion comprises at least one of a laterally expanded forefoot portion and a substantial spherical protrusion centered within the forefoot portion, to facilitate toe separation.
12. A shoe according to claim 11, wherein said forefoot portion comprises at least one side flared in a single stage beginning at the hind-most edge of the corresponding toe knuckle.
13. A shoe according to claim 11, wherein said forefoot portion comprises at least one side flared in two stages, with the first stage beginning at the hind-most edge of the corresponding toe knuckle and concluding at the fore-most edge of that toe knuckle, and with the second stage beginning at the fore-most edge of that toe knuckle.
14. A shoe according to claim 11, wherein said spherical protrusion further comprises at least one of a steep convex drop-off at the foremost side and a steep concave drop-off at the hindmost side.
15. A sole according to claim 11, wherein said spherical protrusion is centered at or near the midpoint between the hindmost lateral point of the pinky toe knuckle and the foremost medial point of the big toe distal phalanx, corresponding to the inferior apex of the index toe knuckle.
16. A shoe according to claim 11, wherein the hindfoot portion of said sole further comprises a raised heel portion.
17. A shoe according to claim 16, wherein said raised heel portion is widened from a superior side to a uniformly or near-uniformly expanded profile of the same at the inferior side of said sole.
18. A shoe according to claim 11, wherein said upper portion and said sole portion are combined to form a monolithic body.
19. A shoe according to claim 18, wherein said monolithic body is monolithically manufactured by 3D printing.
20. A shoe according to claim 19, wherein said monolithic body is 3D printed using a flexible material.
