Abstract
Various storage system embodiments are described. Each storage system is displaceable between a stowed position and an erected configuration wherein the storage system provides a storage compartment for retaining and protecting smaller delicate items from being displaced and potentially damaged within the greater expanse of a cargo compartment of a motor vehicle.
Claims
1. A storage system, comprising: a plurality of panels having perimeters including a first set of crenulations allowing said plurality of panels to be interconnected into a multiwalled structure defining a storage compartment.
2. The storage system of claim 1, including a receiver formed in a cargo compartment floor, said plurality of panels being received and held in said receiver when stowed.
3. The storage system of claim 2, wherein said receiver comprises a recessed bottom wall and a plurality of sidewalls having a second set of crenulations cooperating to receive and hold said first set of crenulations.
4. The storage system of claim 3, wherein said first set of crenulations include a plurality of alternating projecting lugs and notches.
5. The storage system of claim 4, further including a first set of lug receivers in sidewalls of a cargo compartment and a second set of lugs receivers in a rear face of a rear seat oriented toward said cargo compartment.
6. The storage system of claim 5, further including a third set of lug receivers in said recessed bottom wall.
7. The storage system of claim 6, wherein said projecting lugs of at least one panel of said plurality of panels are received in lug receivers in said sidewalls of said cargo compartment and said third set of lug receivers in said recessed bottom wall.
8. The storage system of claim 7, wherein said projecting lugs of a second panel of said plurality of panels are received in said lug receivers in said rear face of said rear seat and said notches of said at least one panel of said plurality of panels.
9. The storage system of claim 6, wherein said projecting lugs of at least one panel of said plurality of panels are received in lug receivers in said rear face of said rear seat and said third set of lug receivers in said recessed bottom wall.
10. A storage system, comprising; a first accordion sidewall, a second accordion sidewall a first end wall spanning said first accordion sidewall and said second accordion sidewall; and a second end wall connected to said first accordion sidewall, said second accordion sidewall and a face of a rear seat.
11. The storage system of claim 10, wherein said face includes a receiver and said second end wall nests inside said receiver.
12. The storage system of claim 11, further including a fastener to secure said first accordion sidewall, said second accordion sidewall and said first end wall in a collapsed position nested within said receiver.
13. The storage system of claim 12, wherein said fastener is a hook and loop fastening device.
14. A storage system, comprising; a storage container including a first sidewall, a second sidewall, a third sidewall and a fourth sidewall all depending from a bottom wall; a first fastening element on a first side of a storage compartment floor securing said storage container in an erected configuration; and a second fastening element on a second side of said storage compartment floor securing said storage container in a collapsed configuration.
15. The storage system of claim 14, further including a third fastening element fixed to said bottom wall, said third fastening element being releasably connected to either said first fastening element or said second fastening element.
16. The storage system of claim 15, wherein said first fastening element, said second fastening element and said third fastening element are cooperating hook and loop fasteners.
17. The storage system of claim 16, wherein said first sidewall, said second sidewall, said third sidewall and said fourth sidewall are all made from a flexible material.
18. The storage system of claim 17, further including a first support post between said first sidewall and said second sidewall and a second support post between said second sidewall and said third sidewall.
19. The storage system of claim 18, further including a third support post between said third sidewall and said fourth sidewall and a fourth support post between said fourth sidewall and said first sidewall.
20. The storage system of claim 19, further including an upper rim having an inner margin defining an access opening to a storage area defined by said first sidewall, said second sidewall, said third sidewall, said fourth sidewall and said bottom wall when said storage system is in said erected configuration.
