DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0037] The following description is merely exemplary in nature and is not intended to limit the present disclosure, application, or uses. It should be understood that throughout the drawings, corresponding reference numerals indicate like or corresponding parts and features.
[0038] Referring to
[0039] Referring to
[0040] Generally, the flexible fabric 22 defines a length approximately equal to a length of the strap 14 of the electronic monitoring device 10. In another example, the flexible fabric 22 defines a length equal to the combined length of the strap 14 and tracking assembly 12 such that the guard 20 covers the entire electronic monitoring device 10 when the guard 20 is in an installed position.
[0041] The flexible fabric 22 may further define a height configured to wrap around the strap 14 of the electronic monitoring device 10 such that the top portion 28 and the bottom portion 30 of the flexible fabric 22 overlap and the at least one fastener 36 releasably retains the top portion 28 to the bottom portion 30. In another example, the flexible fabric 22 defines a height configured to wrap around the strap 14 and the tracking assembly 14 such that the top portion 28 and the bottom portion 30 of the flexible fabric 22 overlap and the at least one fastener 36 releasably retains the top portion 28 to the bottom portion 30.
[0042] Therefore, the flexible fabric 22 is not limited to one configuration. For example, the flexible fabric 22 may define a length approximately equal to a length of the strap 14 and a height configured to wrap around the strap 14. In another example, the flexible fabric 22 defines a length equal to the combined length of the strap 14 and tracking assembly 12 and a height configured to wrap around the strap 14 and the tracking assembly 14.
[0043] The at least one ribbon loop 40, in one form, is disposed on the bottom portion 30 of the flexible fabric 22. Alternatively, the at least one ribbon loop 40 is disposed on the top portion 28 of the flexible fabric 22 (not shown). In another variation, the at least one ribbon loop 40 is disposed between two sheets of flexible fabric 22.
[0044] The components of the guard 20 may be any of a variety of materials and in one form, the flexible fabric 22 is polyester. In another form, the at least one ribbon loop 40 is polyester. In yet another form, the flexible fabric 22 and the ribbon loop 40 is polyester.
[0045] In other forms, the at least one fastener 36 is selected from the group consisting of Velcro, a button, a zipper, and a hook. However, any type of fastener that serves the purpose of releasably retaining the top portion 28 to the bottom portion 30 may be employed while still remaining within the scope of the present disclosure.

[0054] At least one fastener 547 is attached to the top portion 28 of the flexible fabric 22 on the outer surface 26 for releasably retaining the at least one fastener 546 attached near the peripheral edge 550 of the inner surface 548 of the additional length of flexible fabric 545. In this embodiment, the inner side 18 of the tracking assembly 12 is still in contact with the monitored individual's limb, and the additional length of flexible fabric 545 covers the outer side 16 of the tracking assembly 12. The at least one fasteners may be selected from a group consisting of Velcro, button, zipper and a hook. However, any type of fastener that serves the purpose of releasably retaining the additional length of flexible fabric 545, to the outer surface 26 of the flexible fabric 22, may be employed while still remaining within the scope of the present disclosure.
[0055] Referring to
[0056] At 404, the guard is placed between the limb of the monitored individual and a strap of the electronic monitoring device such that the electronic monitoring device is centered with and in contact with the inner surface of the flexible fabric (
[0057] At 410, the bottom portion of the flexible fabric is folded up (
[0058] At 406, in one form, the step of placing the guard between the limb and the strap comprises the steps of using at least one ribbon loop to adjust the guard in place.
[0059] At 408, in another form, the method further includes abutting cutouts disposed on each peripheral edge of the flexible fabric to an edge of a tracking assembly of the electronic monitoring device, before folding the bottom portion of the guard up, such that an outer side of the tracking assembly is exposed and an inner side of the tracking assembly is in contact with the monitored individual's limb (
[0060] At 416, in another form, the method further includes covering the outer surface of the tracking assembly with an additional length of flexible fabric extending outside of one of the peripheral edges of the top portion of the outer surface (
[0061] At 417, in yet another form, the method further includes fastening the additional length of flexible fabric to the outer surface of the flexible fabric (
[0062] When the guard 20 is properly installed, the flexible fabric creates a barrier between the hard electronic monitoring device and the monitored individual's limb thereby decreasing any blistering, bruising, and bleeding that may occur from the device being tightly secured to the limb.
[0063] Additional images of an exemplary guard are shown in Appendix A.
[0064] The description of the disclosure is merely exemplary in nature and, thus, variations that do not depart from the substance of the disclosure are intended to be within the scope of the disclosure. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the disclosure.
