Abstract
A method and apparatus for lifting loads support from a crane to eliminate swaying of the load includes providing the crane with a laser source on either side of the crane. The center of gravity of the load is marked on the load and the boom is positioned such that the laser lights projection on the ground or on surface of the load and the center of gravity of the load are aligned in a straight line.
Claims
1. A method of correctly lifting a load by a crane comprising; a) marking the center of gravity of the load on the load, b) locating a pair of laser lights on both sides of a lifting devices, c) manipulating the lifting device such that the projections of the laser lights on a surface and the center of gravity of the load are aligned in a straight line.
2. The method of claim 1 wherein the crane includes a telescoping boom that can also be raised and lowered.
3. The method of claim 1 wherein the laser lights are pivotably mounted on the sides of the lifting device and include a weight extending from a housing for biasing the laser light in a downward direction.
4. A laser light assembly comprising; a) a shaft, b) a housing rotatably supported on the shaft, c) a weighted arm extending outwardly from housing, the weighted arm including a laser light, a battery and a switch positioned within a hollow cylinder.
5. A laser light assembly as claimed in claim 4 wherein the switch may be remotely actuated.
6. A method of erecting a stationary crane by a mobile crane that includes an extensible boom that also may be raised and lowered comprising; a) providing the mobile crane with a laser light source b) determining and marking on the ground the minimum and maximum radius of the boom from a ground point of the mobile crane, and c) manipulating the mobile crane boom such that laser light remains within the maximum and minimum radii of the boom.
7. The method of claim 6 wherein the mobile crane is provided with two laser light sources.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0014] Referring to
[0015] A cable 17 is attached to the crane 10 and to the load 18.
[0016] A pair of laser devices 8, 9 described below are attached to either side of the crane for example at the sheave center pin 5. Shaft 52 shown in
[0017] A method according to an embodiment of the invention can be described by reference to
[0018]
[0019]
[0020] The lifting mechanism includes a plurality of sheaves 22 and a pivot pin connected 13. In this embodiment the laser devices 8, 9 are connected to each side of the lifting end 21 so that the laser will be directed perpendicular to the ground (as in the embodiment of

[0022]
[0023] In the embodiment of
[0024]
[0025] Laser light 66, battery 64 and a switch 65 which may be remotely actuated are located within cylinder 62.
[0026] With this construction the laser light 66 will be directed downwardly toward the load 18 regardless of the orientation of the crane.
[0027] Although the present invention and its advantages have been described in detail, it should be understood that various changes, substitutions and alterations may be made herein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
