Halo Hair Piece

Abstract

A halo hair piece has a hair weft with a joined upper edge of a first length and hair of a second length extending at a right angle to the length of the joined upper edge, a line having a first and a second end and a second length of more than twice the first length of the joined upper edge of the hair weft, the line threaded through the joined upper edge along the first length, leaving a third length outside the joined upper edge of the hair weft, the line tied back to the first end, knots tied in or over the line in the third length at a repeated spacing, and a plurality of hair strands of a fourth length less than the second overall length, with single strands or groups of the hair strands tied to the line between the knots, forming a bangs region.

Claims

1. A halo hair piece, comprising: a hair weft having a joined upper edge of a first length and human hair of a second overall length extending at a right angle to the length of the joined upper edge; a line having a first and a second end and a second overall length of more than twice the first length of the joined upper edge of the hair weft, the line threaded through the joined upper edge of the hair weft along the first length, leaving a third length outside the joined upper edge of the hair weft, the line tied back to the first end; knots tied in or over the line in the third length at a repeated spacing; and a plurality of hair strands of a fourth length less than the second overall length, with single strands or groups of the hair strands tied to the line between the knots, forming a bangs region.

2. The halo hair piece of claim 1 wherein the line is a fishing line of about 4 pounds test.

3. The halo hair piece of claim 1 wherein the knots are tied directly in the line.

4. The halo hair piece of claim 1 wherein the knots are tied over the line from separate pieces of line.

5. The halo hair piece of claim 1 wherein the groups of hair strands comprise groups of eight or fewer individual strands.

6. A method for making a halo hair piece, comprising: threading a line having a first and a second end and a first overall length through a second length of a joined upper edge of a hair weft having human hair of a third overall length extending at a right angle to the first length of the joined upper edge, leaving a fourth length of the line outside the joined upper edge of the hair weft; tying knots in or over the fourth length of the line outside the joined upper edge of the hair weft, spaced along the fourth length; joining the first and second ends of the line, forming a halo; and tying single hair strands or groups of hair strands of a fifth length less than the third length onto the fourth length of the line between the knots, forming a bangs region.

7. The method of claim 6 comprising selecting a fishing line of about 4 pounds test as the line for the halo hair piece.

8. The method of claim 6 comprising tying the knots directly in the line.

9. The method of claim 6 comprising tying the knots over the line from separate pieces of line.

10. The method of claim 6 comprising tying groups of hair strands of eight or fewer strands to the line between knots.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0010] FIG. 1 is an elevation view of a commercially available hair weft 100 for use in an embodiment of the present invention. Hair weft 100 comprises strands of human hair 102 fastened along an upper edge 101 of a first length. In some cases, the hair is sewn using a plurality of threads side-by-side, and in some cases the hair may be sewn to a fabric strip. The width and length of edge 101 may vary depending on manufacturer and product. In an embodiment of the present invention a weft width of 10 to 12 inches (which is the length of edge 101) is useful, although in some embodiments the width may be somewhat more or less than these dimensions. A wide range of hair colors are available and different lengths of hair below edge 101 are available as well. Wefts may be obtained with straight hair, wavey hair, and in widely different thickness.

[0011] FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a Halo Hair Piece 200 in an embodiment of the present invention. Halo Hair Piece 200 is supported by a single continuous piece of, in this example thin fishing line 201, which in one embodiment may be nylon fishing line of 4 lb. test. Other types and weights of line may be used.

[0012] One study in the United States shows the average adult head circumference to be 55 cm (21? in) in females and 57 cm (22? in) in males. Line 201 is implemented as a continuous loop as shown, and in one embodiment forms a circle with a circumference of about 22 inches. Line 201 is laced lengthwise through the upper edge 101 of hair weft 100 illustrated in FIG. 1, which provides a band of human hair 102 as also shown in FIG. 1. As the length of the upper edge of the hair weft is about 11 inches, about 11 inches of line 201 remains outside the hair weft. The free line outside the upper edge of the hair weft in this example has knots 202 tied in or on the line with a spacing of about 1 inch along the full length of the free line before the ends are joined to form the continuous loop (halo). The knots 202 may be tied directly in line 201 or may be tied onto line 201 from separate short pieces of line. Once the line is tied back to itself forming the continuous loop the portion with knots outside the weft becomes a front bangs region. Strands of human hair 203 are tied to the bangs region between each knot to provide bangs in the halo hair piece. The knots prevent the hair tied for bangs from sliding together and clumping.

[0013] In FIG. 2 a portion of the line in the bangs region is shown without hair strands 203 tied to the line to better illustrate the structure of the halo. In practice hair is tied between all adjacent knots in the bangs region. The number of hairs tied between two knots may vary from one to many. In one embodiment the number is equal to or less than eight.

[0014] In different embodiments of the invention the length of line 202 is controlled to provide halos for human heads in different sizes. Halos are provided in one embodiment in Small (less than 22 inches circumference), Medium (22 inches circumference) and Large (greater than 22 inches circumference). Sizes may be proved in other embodiments in a greater or smaller range. Different models may have hair of different colors, lengths, density and wavy or straight.

[0015] Halos in embodiments of the invention may be used by pulling the halo over the user's head with the bangs region centered in the front, and the user may arrange the user's biological hair to lay over parts of the halo or under parts of the halo. Hair of the weft and of the bangs may be washed and brushed as a user may desire, and may also be cut and styled. Halos according to embodiments of the invention are useful for people with extremely thin/fine hair, people with hair loss, people who have stress hair fall, alopecia, cancer patients, people going through medical issues, radiation, trichotillomania and so on. May also be used by anyone who desires this type of hair piece.

[0016] FIG. 3 is a flow diagram illustrating a method for making a halo hair piece in an embodiment of the invention. At step 301 a user obtains a hair weft having a width of about 11 inches across a joined upper edge. At step 302 the user cuts a fishing line to a length of about 22 inches. At step 303 the user weaves the line through the length of the joined upper edge of the hair weft, leaving about 11 inches free. At step 304 the user ties knots at 1 inch intervals in the free end of the line. At step 305 the ends of the line are joined to make a loop, with the knotted region becoming a bangs region. At step 306 strands of hair are tied between the knots of the bangs region. At step 307 the user may place the halo hair piece over the head as a crown, and pulls the halo down snugly on the head. At step 308 the user may rearrange the biological hair to lie over or under the halo hair.
