Abstract

The present invention relates to combinations of a compound of formula (I), wherein: R.sup.1 is hydrogen or fluorine; and R.sup.2 is: in which n is 0, 1 or 2; with a compound selected from a group consisting of mixing partners; and to methods of controlling or preventing damage to plants and infestations of animals; and to formulations, concentrates and seed treatments comprising such combinations.

Claims

1. 2. A composition according to claim 1 wherein the ratio by weight of (A) to (B) is from 500:1 to 1:500, 100:1 to 1:100, 50:1 to 1:50 or 20:1 to 1:20, or preferably 10:1 to 1:10 or 5:1 to 1:5; more preferably 3.1 to 1:3.

4. A composition according to any one of claims 1 to 3 further comprising one or more auxiliaries and/or diluents.

A method of controlling or preventing damage to a plant, which comprises applying, in any desired sequence or simultaneously, on the plant, the locus thereof or its propagation material, comprising, as component (A), a compound of formula (I): ##STR00022## wherein: R.sup.1 is hydrogen or fluorine; The method according to any one of claims 5 to 7, wherein the rate of application of component (A) is 1 to 2000 g/ha, especially from 10 to 1000 g/ha, more especially from 20 to 200 g/ha; and the rate of application of the or each compound of component (B) is 1 to 2000 g/ha, especially from 10 to 1000 g/ha, more especially from 20 to 200 g/ha.

A method of controlling or preventing infestation of an animal, which comprises applying, in any desired sequence or simultaneously, on the animal a combination comprising, as component (A), a compound of formula (I): ##STR00026## wherein: R.sup.1 is hydrogen or fluorine; and R.sup.2 is: ##STR00027## wherein n is 0, 1 or 2; as defined above or a pharmaceutically or veterinary acceptable salt thereof; and, as component (B), at least one compound selected from the group consisting of B-33 afoxolaner (CAS 1093861-60-9) B-34 fluralaner (CAS 864731-61-3) B-35 sarolaner (CAS 1398609-39-6) B-36 ivermectin (CAS 70288-86-7) and B-37 tigolaner (CAS 1621436-41-6) or pharmaceutically or veterinary acceptable salts thereof.

10. The use of a combination comprising, as component (A), a compound of formula (I): ##STR00028## wherein: R.sup.1 is hydrogen or fluorine; and R.sup.2 is: ##STR00029## wherein n is 0, 1 or 2; or a pharmaceutically or veterinary acceptable salt thereof; and, as component (B), at least one compound selected from the group consisting of: B-33 afoxolaner (CAS 1093861-60-9) B-34 fluralaner (CAS 864731-61-3) B-35 sarolaner (CAS 1398609-39-6) B-36 ivermectin (CAS 70288-86-7) and B-37 tigolaner (CAS 1621436-41-6) or pharmaceutically or veterinary acceptable salts thereof, in controlling or preventing infestation of an animal.

11. The use of a composition as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 or claim 6 as an insecticide, acaricide and/or nematicide or for controlling insect, acarina and/or nematode pests.

12. The method according to any one of claims 5 to 9 or the use of claim 10 or claim 11 wherein the combination is applied in succession or simultaneously or as a composition comprising (A) and (B).

13. The method according to any one of claims 5 to 9 or claim 12 or the use according to any one of claims 10 to 12, wherein the combination controls one or more pests selected from insect, acarina, nematode and fungal pests.

14. A composition as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 or claim 6, or a method as claimed in any one of claims 5 to 9 or claim 12 or claim 13, or a use as claimed in any one of claims 10 to 13 wherein the compound of formula (I) is a compound of formula (I) in which R.sup.1 is hydrogen and R.sup.2 is ##STR00030##

15. A composition as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 or claim 6, or a method as claimed in any one of claims 5 to 9 or claims 12 to 14, or a use as claimed in any one of claims 10 to 14 wherein the compound of formula (I) is a compound of formula (I) in which R.sup.1 is hydrogen and R.sup.2 is ##STR00031##

16. A composition as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 or claim 6, or a method as claimed in any one of claims 5 to 9 or claims 12 to 15, or a use as claimed in any one of claims 10 to 15 wherein the compound of formula (I) is a compound of formula (I) in which R.sup.1 is fluorine and R.sup.2 is ##STR00032## wherein n is 0, 1 or 2.

17. A composition as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 or claim 6, or a method as claimed in any one of claims 5 to 9 or claims 12 to 16, or a use as claimed in any one of claims 10 to 16 wherein the compound of formula (I) is ##STR00033##

18. A formulation comprising a composition as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4, claim 6 or claims 14 to 17, the formulation comprising from 0.01 to 90% by weight of active agents, from 0 to 25% by weight of agriculturally or pharmaceutically acceptable surfactant and from 10 to 99.9 percent by weight of solid or liquid formulation inerts and adjuvants.

19. A concentrate composition for dilution by a user, the concentrate composition comprising a composition as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4, claim 6 or claims 14 to 17, comprising from 2% to 80% by weight, preferably between about 5% and 70% by weight, of active agents.

BIOLOGICAL EXAMPLES

[0420] The synergistic biological activity of combinations of component (A) and component (B) as disclosed herein was assessed using a Myzus persicae (Green peach aphid) feeding assay. Test compounds prepared from 10000 ppm DMSO stock solutions were applied by pipette into 24-well microtiter plates and mixed with sucrose solution. The plates were closed with a stretched Parafilm. A plastic stencil with 24 holes was placed onto the plate and pea seedlings infested with a Myzus persicae population of mixed ages were placed directly on the Parafilm. The infested plate was closed with a gel blotting paper and another plastic stencil and then turned upside down. The samples were assessed for mortality 5 days after infestation.
