54. The method of claim 53, further comprising intersecting one of said opposed sides of said first and said second recess with a respective first pair and a second pair of diagonally opposed corners of said body.
55. The method of claim 54, wherein said opposed sides of said second recess have an amount of curvature.
56. The method of claim 54, wherein said opposed sides of said second recess comprise substantially linear parallel opposed sides.
57. The method of claim 54, wherein said first and second recess have dimensions sufficient to receive a seam allowance of a pair of materials joined at a seam with said top surface engaged with said pair of materials on either side of said seam allowance.
58. A method of cutting a piece of material, comprising: obtaining a piece of material, said piece of material including a first piece of material different from a second piece of material joined at a seam having a seam allowance with a width which extends between said seam and an edge of each of said first piece of material and said second piece of material; obtaining a cutting guide, including: a substantially rectangular body having a top surface disposed in opposed relation to a substantially flat bottom surface, said top surface and said bottom surface extending to each of a plurality of sides of said substantially rectangular body, said substantially rectangular body having a thickness sufficient to guide a cutting tool along one of a plurality of sides of said body; and a first recess disposed in said bottom surface of said body, said first recess having a pair of opposed sides joined by a cross member which defines a passage which intersects a first pair of diagonally opposed corners of said substantially rectangular body, said pair of opposed sides having an amount of curvature; directly engaging said bottom surface of said cutting guide with said first and second pieces of material to locate said seam and said width of said seam allowance entirely between said pair of opposed sides of said first recess, said first and second pieces of material extending beyond said plurality of sides of said body of said cutting guide; abutting said seam against one said opposed sides of said first recess; guiding a cutting tool along each of said plurality of sides of said cutting guide; and cutting said piece of material with said cutting tool guided along each of said plurality of sides of said cutting guide.
59. The method of claim 58, further comprising the step of folding said seam allowance to one side of said seam to locate said seam and said width of said seam allowance entirely between said pair of linear opposed sides of said seam allowance recess.

[0040] As to each of the examples of the inventive cutting guides (6) shown in the Figures, the bottom surface (9) or the top surface (8) or both can further include graphic indicia or numeric indicia (not shown) imprinted or applied to the surface for instruction, placement or measurement.
[0041] As can be easily understood from the foregoing, the basic concepts of the present invention including the best mode may be embodied in a variety of ways. The invention involves numerous and varied embodiments of a cutting guide (6) and methods of making and using such cutting guide (6).
[0042] As such, the particular embodiments or elements of the invention disclosed by the description or shown in the figures or tables accompanying this application are not intended to be limiting, but rather exemplary of the numerous and varied embodiments generically encompassed by the invention or equivalents encompassed with respect to any particular element thereof. In addition, the specific description of a single embodiment or element of the invention may not explicitly describe all embodiments or elements possible; many alternatives are implicitly disclosed by the description and figures.
[0043] It should be understood that each element of an apparatus or each step of a method may be described by an apparatus term or method term. Such terms can be substituted where desired to make explicit the implicitly broad coverage to which this invention is entitled. As but one example, it should be understood that all steps of a method may be disclosed as an action, a means for taking that action, or as an element which causes that action. Similarly, each element of an apparatus may be disclosed as the physical element or the action which that physical element facilitates. As but one example, the disclosure of a recess should be understood to encompass disclosure of the act of recessingwhether explicitly discussed or notand, conversely, were there effectively disclosure of the act of recessing, such a disclosure should be understood to encompass disclosure of a recess and even a means for recessing. Such alternative terms for each element or step are to be understood to be explicitly included in the description.
[0044] In addition, as to each term used it should be understood that unless its utilization in this application is inconsistent with such interpretation, common dictionary definitions should be understood to included in the description for each term as contained in the Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary, second edition, each definition hereby incorporated by reference.
