RECLINING POOLSIDE CHAIR

Abstract

A reclining poolside chair for sitting adjacent to a pool or other body of water. The reclining poolside chair includes a seat member and a seatback affixed substantially perpendicular to the seat member. The seat member includes a plurality of protrusions extending downwardly from a front end and a rear end of the seat member, wherein a front set of protrusions comprise a length greater than a rear set of protrusions, such that the seat member reclines at an angle in relation to a ground surface. The plurality of protrusions further include a non-slip attachment removably secured to a distal end of each protrusion. In an alternative embodiment, a pair of arm rests are disposed on lateral sides of the reclining poolside chair and a plurality of apertures are disposed along a rear end of the seat member.

Claims

1) A reclining poolside chair, comprising: a seat member; a seatback affixed substantially perpendicular to the seat member; a plurality of protrusions extending downwardly from a front end and a rear end of the seat member, wherein a front set of protrusions comprise a length greater than a rear set of protrusions, such that the seat member reclines at an angle in relation to a ground surface; and a non-slip attachment, removably secured to a distal end of each protrusion of the plurality of protrusions.

2) The reclining poolside chair of claim 1, further comprising a pair of arm rests disposed on lateral sides of the reclining poolside chair, wherein an upper end of each arm rest is affixed to the seatback and a lower end of each arm rest is affixed to the seat member.

3) The reclining poolside chair of claim 2, wherein the lower end of each arm rest is affixed to the set of front protrusions thereby forming one continuous monolithic member.

4) The reclining poolside chair of claim 1, wherein the seat member includes a plurality of apertures disposed along the rear end configured to allow a liquid to drain therethrough.

5) The reclining poolside chair of claim 1, wherein the non-slip attachment is constructed of a rubber material.

6) The reclining poolside chair of claim 1, wherein the reclining poolside chair is constructed of a water-resistant material.

7) The reclining poolside chair of claim 6, wherein the water-resistant material is plastic.

8) The reclining poolside chair of claim 6, wherein the water-resistant material is fade resistant.

9) The reclining poolside chair of claim 1, wherein a length of the rear set of protrusions is less than half of the length of the front set of protrusions.

10) The reclining poolside chair of claim 9, wherein the length of the front set of protrusions is no more than six inches.

11) The reclining poolside chair of claim 4, wherein the plurality of apertures are disposed at a lowermost portion of the seat member and all linearly aligned with one another.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0018] Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the reclining poolside chair. For the purposes of presenting a brief and clear description of the present invention, the preferred embodiment will be discussed as used for lounging near an edge of a body of water. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

[0019] Referring now to FIG. 1, there is shown a perspective view of an embodiment of the reclining poolside chair. The reclining poolside chair 11 comprises a seat member 12 and a seatback 13 affixed substantially perpendicular to the seat member 12. The reclining poolside chair 11 further includes a plurality of protrusions 14 extending downwardly from a front end 15 and a rear end 16 of the seat member 12. The plurality of protrusions 14 are shorter in length than standard chair legs, such that the lowermost portion of the seat member 12 is disposed at a minimal distance above a ground surface. The lowermost portion is defined as the rear end 16 of the seat member 12. In the illustrated embodiment, the minimal distance is defined as three inches or less. In the illustrated embodiment, the front end 15 of the seat member 12 is between three to four inches elevated above the lowermost portion, thereby creating a sloped surface of the seat member 12. In this way, a user seated in the reclining poolside chair 11 disposed near an edge of a body of water, is positioned low to the ground, such that that the legs of the user are disposed within water located lower than the ground surface.

[0020] The plurality of protrusions 14 include a front set of protrusions 14A that comprise a length greater than a rear set of protrusions 14B, such that the seat member 12 reclines at an angle in relation to the ground surface. In the illustrated embodiment, the front set of protrusions comprise a length that is no more than six inches, while the rear set of protrusions comprise a length that is less than half of the length of the front set of protrusions. The protrusions 14 position the seat member 12 and the seatback 13 at an angle that is configured to recline a user seated in the reclining poolside chair 11. In this way, the user may be seated in a comfortable position while lounging in the chair 11.

[0021] Each of the plurality of protrusions 14 further includes a non-slip attachment 17 that is removably secured to a distal end thereof. The non-slip attachment 17 is configured to prevent the reclining poolside chair 11 from moving or sliding when placed on wet surfaces, such as a wooden or concrete pool deck laden with water. The non-slip attachment 17 is constructed of rubber. However, any suitable non-slip material may be used.

[0022] The reclining poolside chair 11 is constructed of a water-resistant material, such as plastic. The water-resistant material prevents the chair from becoming waterlogged when placed near or within water. Further, the water-resistant material is configured to be fade resistant. This prevents the color of the chair from becoming faded when positioned in direct sunlight.

[0023] Referring now to FIG. 2, there is shown a side view of an embodiment of the reclining poolside chair. In the illustrated embodiment, the reclining poolside chair 11 further comprising a pair of arm rests 18 disposed on lateral sides thereof. Each arm rest 18 includes an upper end 19 affixed to the seatback 13 and a lower end 20 affixed to the seat member 12. In the illustrated embodiment, the lower end 20 of each arm rest 18 is further affixed to the set of front protrusions 14A, such that a continuous monolithic member is formed. In the illustrated embodiment, the upper end 19 of each arm forms an L-shape configuration.

[0024] Referring now to FIG. 3, there is shown a close up perspective view of an embodiment of a plurality of apertures disposed on the seat bottom of the reclining poolside chair. In the illustrated embodiment, the reclining poolside chair 11 further includes a plurality of apertures 21 disposed along the rear end 16 of the seat member 12. In the illustrated embodiment, the apertures 21 are disposed at a fixed distance from one another and linearly aligned. The plurality of apertures 21 are configured to allow a liquid to drain therethrough. In alternative embodiments, the plurality of apertures 21 may be disposed in any suitably configuration along the seat member 12. In this way, when the seat member 12 contains water thereon, the apertures 21 allow the liquid to drain thereby maintaining a dry seat member 12.

[0025] Referring now to FIG. 4, there is shown a perspective view of an embodiment of the reclining poolside chair, wherein the chair is positioned near an edge of a pool. In use, the reclining poolside chair 11 is positioned near an edge 22 of a pool 23 or other body of water. When in a seated position, the legs 24 of a user 25 are disposed low to the ground, such that the user's feet and legs 24 may rest within the pool 23 at height lower than the distal ends of the front set of protrusions 14A of the chair 11. In this way, the user's legs 24 can be dangled within the water of the pool 23, while the user 25 maintains a comfortable seated position in the reclining poolside chair 11. This provides a more comfortable alternative over sitting on a hard surface by the water's edge 22. Further, the non-slip attachments 17 disposed on the plurality of protrusions prevent the reclining poolside chair 11 from sliding when placed on a wet surface. In this way, the chair 11 is prevented from sliding forward into the pool 23 when positioned nearby, thus preventing the user 25 from becoming accidentally submerged in the water.

It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
