DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0016] This description of the preferred embodiment is intended to be read in connection with the accompanying drawings, which are to be considered part of the entire written description of this invention. In the description, relative terms such as lower, upper, horizontal, vertical, above, below, up, down, top and bottom, under, as well as derivatives thereof (e.g., horizontally, downwardly, upwardly, underside, etc.) should be construed to refer to the orientation as then described or as shown in the drawings under discussion. These relative terms are for convenience of description and do not require that the apparatus be constructed or operated in a particular orientation. Terms such as connected, connecting, attached, attaching, joined, and joining are used interchangeably and refer to one structure or surface being secured to another structure or surface or integrally fabricated in one piece unless expressly described otherwise.
[0017] Multi-layered glue boards 1 made in accordance with the present invention are shown in the drawings. Glue boards 1 include a stack comprising a primary substrate 10 and a plurality of secondary substrates 12. The primary substrate 10, and each of said plurality of secondary substrates 12, has a top side 14 and a bottom side 16. The top side 14 of the primary substrate 10 and each of the secondary substrates 12 includes a center section 18 permanently coated with an adhesive. The bottom side 16 of each of the plurality of secondary substrates 12 is adapted to be releasably secured to the adhesive. As such, the stack is held together by the adhesive until sufficient force is applied to separate the top secondary substrate 12 from the substrate immediately below and expose the adhesive on the top side 14 of that substrate. Periodically, the layers of the stack are peeled away in this fashion to ensure a fresh and clean layer of adhesive is available for the capture of insects landing or crawling on the exposed adhesive.
[0018] The primary substrate 10 will typically be made of a stiff material. The top side 14 of the primary substrate and each of the plurality of secondary substrates 12 may also include non-sticky edge portions 20 bounding the center section. This allows one to grip the glue board when peeling away an upper layer of the stack without touching the adhesive. Non-sticky tabs 21 may also be secured to (or provided as a part of) the substrates 10/12 for this purpose.
[0019] The bottom side 16 of each of the secondary substrates 12 is adapted to permit the secondary substrate of each layer to release from the adhesive of the layer below. In some embodiments of the invention, this is achieved by providing a bottom surface comprising a plurality of narrow ridges 22 and wider valleys 24 as shown in
[0020] Similarly, the adhesive may be selected or adapted so that it permanently bonds to the top of the substrates but releasably bonds to the bottom of a secondary substrate. For example, discontinuous microsphere adhesives work well when the secondary substrates are laminates having a top layer made of a paper and a bottom layer made of a plastic or a plastic-coated paper.
[0021] Within the scope of the following claims, the invention may be practiced otherwise than as specifically shown in the drawings and described above. The foregoing description is intended to explain the various features and advantages but is not intended to be limiting. The scope of the invention is defined by the following claims which are also intended to cover a reasonable range of equivalents.
