Abstract
An outdoor cooking oven comprises a reconfigurable heat deflector system and independently-controllable air vents that enable the cooking oven to be configured for various cooking methods, such as low and slow cooking or grilling. At least first and second shelves are mounted within a cooking chamber with the second shelf positioned beneath the first shelf. A heat deflector system disposed on the second shelf comprises at least first and second heat deflector elements that are removable from the cooking chamber to enable a user to reconfigure the heat deflector system to vary indirect heating of food items disposed on the first shelf. At least first and second air vents disposed in a bottom side of the exterior encasement beneath the cooking chamber are independently controllable to allow at least first and second airflows from the vents to be independent varied.
Claims
1. A cooking oven comprising: an exterior encasement having a left side, right side, a back side, a front side, a top side and a bottom side, the front side having a main door rotationally coupled thereto to allow the door to be rotated from a closed position of the main door to an open position of the main door, and vice versa, the main door having a handle to allow a user to rotate the main door from the closed position to the open position, and vice versa; a cooking chamber disposed within the exterior encasement; at least first and second shelves mounted within the cooking chamber, the second shelf being positioned beneath the first shelf; a heat deflector system disposed on the second shelf, the heat deflector system comprising at least first and second heat deflector elements that are removable from the cooking chamber to enable a user to reconfigure the heat deflector system to vary indirect heating of food items disposed on the first shelf; at least first and second air vents disposed in the bottom side of the exterior encasement beneath the cooking chamber and coupled to at least first and second air vent control devices, respectively, that are accessible from outside of the exterior encasement to allow a user to set the first and second air vents, respectively, in open and closed positions and in positions in between the open and closed positions to thereby independently control at least first and second airflows, respectively, into at least first and second cooking zones, respectively, of the cooking chamber; and a fuel holder for holding fuel, the fuel holder being disposed in between the second shelf and said at least first and second air vents.

The cooking oven of claim 1, further comprising a pull-out drawer comprising the fuel holder, the pull-out drawer being in sliding engagement with the exterior encasement to allow a user to grip a handle of the pull-out drawer to slide the pull-out drawer outwardly away from the exterior encasement to an open position relative to the exterior encasement and to slide the pull-out drawer inwardly toward the exterior encasement to a closed position relative to the exterior encasement.
3. The cooking oven of claim 2, wherein the pull-out drawer further comprises a removable pan disposed inside of the pull-out drawer for holding fuel.

The cooking oven of claim 1, further comprising at least third air vents formed in the exterior encasement on or near the bottom side of the exterior encasement, wherein air entering the exterior encasement via said at least third air vents flows in between an interior surface of the exterior encasement and an outer surface of the cooking chamber to cool the exterior encasement.
5. The cooking oven of claim 4, further comprising at least a first insulating panel disposed on the outer surface of the cooking chamber and disposed in between the outer surface of the cooking chamber and the interior surface of the exterior encasement.

The cooking oven of claim 1, further comprising: a chimney disposed on the top side of the exterior encasement, the chimney comprising: a chimney base coupled to the top side of the exterior encasement; a chimney grease bowl mounted within the chimney base; and a chimney cap coupled to the chimney base such that the chimney grease bowl is disposed in between the chimney base and the chimney cap.

The cooking oven of claim 6, wherein the chimney grease bowl has at least a first generally circular wall that extends upwardly away from an inner bottom surface of the grease bowl and a second generally circular wall that encircles the first generally circular wall and extends upwardly away from the inner bottom surface of the bowl, and wherein the first and second generally circular walls comprise a first portion of a grease baffle of the chimney.

The cooking oven of claim 7, wherein the chimney cap has at least first generally circular wall that extends downwardly away from a top inner surface of the chimney cap toward the inner bottom surface of the chimney grease bowl, the first generally circular wall of the chimney cap comprising a second portion of the grease baffle, the first generally circular wall of the chimney cap being in between the first and second generally circular walls of the chimney grease bowl, and wherein the grease baffle causes air and smoke passing out of the cooking chamber via a ventilation outlet of the oven into the chimney to turn at least two times by an angle of about 180? before passing out of the chimney.

The cooking oven of claim 6, wherein the chimney grease bowl has a first generally circular wall that extends upwardly away from an inner bottom surface of the grease bowl, a second generally circular wall that encircles the first generally circular wall and extends upwardly away from the inner bottom surface of the bowl, and a third generally circular wall that encircles the first and second generally circular walls and extends upwardly away from the inner bottom surface of the bowl, and wherein the first, second and third generally circular walls comprise a first portion of a grease baffle of the chimney.

The cooking oven of claim 9, wherein the chimney cap has first and second generally circular walls that extend downwardly away from a top inner surface of the chimney cap toward the inner bottom surface of the chimney grease bowl, the first and second generally circular walls of the chimney cap comprising a second portion of the grease baffle, the first generally circular wall of the chimney cap being in between the first and second generally circular walls of the chimney grease bowl, the second generally circular walls of the chimney cap being in between the second and third generally circular walls of the chimney grease bowl, and wherein the first and second portions of the grease baffle cause air and smoke passing out of the cooking chamber via a ventilation outlet of the oven into the chimney is turned at least three times by an angle of about 180? by the grease baffle before passing out of the chimney.

The cooking oven of claim 6, further comprising at least third air vents formed in the exterior encasement on or near the bottom side of the exterior encasement, wherein air entering the exterior encasement via said at least third air vents flows in between an interior surface of the exterior encasement and an outer surface of the cooking chamber to cool the exterior encasement and exits the oven by an air gap in between an underside of the chimney and a top edge of a flanged opening of the exterior encasement, the chimney base being secured to the flanged opening, the flanged opening being above the ventilation opening and generally aligned with the ventilation opening.

The cooking oven of claim 6, and wherein the chimney cap is removably coupled to the chimney base via a friction fit, and wherein the chimney can be cleaned by removing the chimney cap from the chimney base by applying a force sufficient to overcome the friction fit and then removing the chimney grease bowl from chimney base.

The cooking oven of claim 6, and wherein the right and left sides of the exterior encasement are generally parallel to one another and wherein the top and bottom sides of the exterior encasement are generally parallel to one another and generally perpendicular to the top and bottom sides such that the exterior encasement is generally cubic in shape.
14. The cooking oven of claim 13, wherein the exterior encasement comprises a metallic material.
15. The cooking oven of claim 14, wherein the cooking chamber comprises a metallic material.

The cooking oven of claim 1, further comprising: first and second fold-out doors disposed in the left and right sides, respectively, of the exterior encasement, respectively, wherein in folded positions of the first and second fold-out doors, the first and second fold-out doors cover first and second ports, respectively, of the oven, and wherein in unfolded positions of the first and second fold-out doors, the first and second ports are accessible to allow a rotisserie spit to be passed through the first and second ports to allow the cooking oven to be used for rotisserie cooking.
17. The cooking oven of claim 16, wherein at least the first fold-out door has an adapter plate attached thereto that is configured for attachment to a rotisserie motor, and wherein when the first fold-out door is unfolded into a horizontal position, the adapter plate can be unfolded into a vertical position in which the adapter plate is generally parallel to the right side of the exterior encasement.

The cooking oven of claim 16, wherein at least the second fold-out door has an adapter plate attached thereto that is configured for attachment to a rotisserie motor, and wherein when the second fold-out door is unfolded into a horizontal position, the adapter plate can be unfolded into a vertical position in which the adapter plate is generally parallel to the left side of the exterior encasement.
19. The cooking oven of claim 1, further comprising: at least a first grate disposed above the charcoal holder and beneath the second shelf.
20. The cooking oven of claim 1, further comprising: at least a first divider, the first grate being configured to be couple with an edge of the first divider such that the first divider is generally perpendicular to first grate.
21. The cooking oven of claim 20, further comprising: at least a second divider, the first grate being configured to be couple with an edge of the second divider such that the second divider is generally perpendicular to first grate and generally parallel to the first divider.
22. The cooking oven of claim 1, further comprising: a gasket secured to an inside surface of the main door, the gasket being complementary in shape to a main opening of the cooking oven such that when the main door is in a closed position, the gasket substantially seals the main opening to limit oxygen flow into the cooking chamber.

[0031] The present disclosure discloses a cooking oven that is well suited for outdoor use and that can be configured to overcome the aforementioned disadvantages. In particular, embodiments of the cooking oven of the present disclosure provide precision control over airflow and temperature, precision control of an indirect heating configuration, easy accessibility to the food items being cooked, easy accessibility to a charcoal pan drawer for holding charcoal, and easy accessibility to parts that collect grease to allow them to be easily and thoroughly cleaned.
