DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0018] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
[0019] As best illustrated in
[0020] A plug 18 and a socket 20 are attached to a first end 22 and a second end 24 of the electrical cord 12, respectively, so that the socket 20 is electrically engaged to the plug 18. The present invention also anticipates the socket 20 comprises a plurality of sockets 20.
[0021] A sheath 26 is positioned around the electrical cord 12 and extends substantially between the plug 18 and the socket 20. The sheath 26 comprises metal, such as stainless steel, brass, or the like, or other substantially rigid material, such as elastomer, or the like. The sheath 26 comprises a plurality of sections 28, the sections 28 of which are pivotally interconnected and substantially rigid so that the sheath 26 is bendable along its length 30 but substantially incompressible along its diameter 32. The shielded extension cord device 10 thus is configured to resist kinking and twisting and to be resistant to damage, such as from inadvertent contact with a cutting implement.
[0022] The plurality of sections 28 comprises a plurality of outer rings 34 and a plurality of inner rings 36, each inner ring 36 of which is bracketed by a pair of outer rings 34. Each outer rim 38 of a plurality of outer rims 38 is attached to an opposed edge 40 of a respective outer ring 34 so that an outer rim 38 is attached to each opposed edge 40 of each outer ring 34. The outer rim 38 extends radially toward the electrical cord 12. Each inner rim 42 of a plurality of inner rims 42 is attached to an opposing edge 44 of a respective inner ring 36 so that an inner rim 42 is attached to each opposing edge 44 of each inner ring 36. The inner rims 42 of each inner ring 36 extend radially away from the electrical cord 12 and into a pair of outer rings 34, as shown in
[0023] The shielded extension cord device 10 enables a method of connecting an electrical device to an outlet 46. The method 46 comprises a provision step 48, which entails providing an electrical device 50 and a shielded extension cord device 10, according to the specification above. A first connection step 52 of the method 46 is plugging the plug 18 of the shielded extension cord device 10 into an outlet 54. A second connection 56 step of the method 46 is plugging a plug 58 of the electrical device 50 into the socket 20 of the shielded extension cord device 10. The ordering of the first connection step 52 and the second connection step 56 can be reversed.
[0024] With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
[0025] Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word comprising is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article a does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
